Recently the computer just started to randomly lag, and spike in the menus, battles, building a pylon, etc etc.
Before I could play Sc2 on all ultra settings, while streaming, and not lag 60+ fps. Now it jumps from 20-50 on high-ultra, and to stop it from doing it I have to set it to all low settings.
I tried reformatting, and that didn't help at all.
Also one of the maps was distorted once when I played it, and another time stalkers "lasers" never actually visually came out shooting anything.
Also, I get the spikes in low settings aswell, I'll have 200+ fps on low, but it will spike ~50 fps at a time.
What do I need to try/do?

Interesting...anyone else have similar problems lately?
Also overclocking it seems to have no effect what so ever...
This computer had no problems playing it perfectly a week ago, now it's almost unbearable.Last edit: 2010-09-19 08:26:34 |

Which Radeon card do you have? I've been using 10.9 with a 5870 all day while streaming on a similar system with no problems. The biggest difference is OS (I'm on Win7 pro).
If you have onboard graphics, remove your card and see if the stuttering still happens. You should be able to run a replay or something on low just fine. If it still stutters...I don't know. If it doesn't:
It *might* be an issue with your card specifically, in which case you might need to RMA (if it's new) or sent it for warranty repair (if it's under warranty) or buy a new one (if you're screwed). |

Radeon 5850
No on board gfx, and don't have another one I can swap out ^_^ .
Is there any way to test the card otherwise?
I didn't do anything to it, specifically, it was working perfect 2 days ago
The card is only about 2 months old.Last edit: 2010-09-19 09:10:35 |

| Try the older 10.7's/10.8's to rule out drivers. |

I have a similar problem (5870 @ stock, win7, Cat 10.9) - sometimes my game is just laggy as hell and the framerate drops. Even the menuscreens are laggy(when you log into bnet there is a circle on the right side when news load up and that is lagging)....Restarting the game fixes this most of the time, or a reboot does. It rarely occurs though, so I seem to be lucky compared to the OP. My guess is that it's related to the driver and powermodes, but I was too busy(and with busy I mean lazy ) to test it in the last days, so I've not logged clocks while playing or tested different drivers. I've never seen any graphic bugs, though.

I hope it's not the video card... >_>... |

| This happens to me too, but the only difference between the other people in the thread and myself is the card brand (I'm running a NVidia 9800M GTS with 1 gb of DDR3). I've had zero probelms throughout beta and some of release until recently. This problem makes it frustratingly difficult to play. Any help? |

Ugh, other people with the same card are running it fine, I've talked to a few.

I've got a Radeon HD4850 and it used to be smooth on Ultra, but for about a month it's been getting huge lagspikes(screen freezes for 5 seconds, clicking or pressing keys too much makes the computer beep beep beep repeatedly, also my screen sometimes stops responding while loading SC2). I thought it was just SC2 at first, but after getting the same problems in HoN that I used to be able to run completely fine, I think that maybe I should either downgrade to former display drivers or just use my card's warranty and have it switched. =/ Really sucks.
You really should set a framecap with variables.txt though |

Haven't had any issues using the newest drivers on my 5850.
Does it occur with other games? |

Try 9.8. If it's the same, it might be the card.Last edit: 2010-09-21 11:06:03 |

| I even lag on low settings, but I can run crysis on max at 30FPS and Mass effect on max at 55+fps. WHat the fuck is going on. |

Yeah I am getting decent fps on every map except steps of war for some reason now, where I get ~50 on ultra. 100+ on caverns, blistering sands etc etc, but 40-50 spikes at times.
If I could just get the spikes fixed I'd be happy >_> . |
