Welcome to the Sponsored Threads section! We're trying out some new advertising opportunities on TL which you can find details of below. We've also redesigned the front page slightly to give you more community and headline news.
Team Liquid Direct Advertising As you may have seen, we have started running banner ads for Starcraft related products and services. These ads are part of our in-house advertising system that allows advertisers to work with us directly to promote their business.
We realise some of you will be seeing ads on TL for the first time due to the fact that you adblock our other ad providers. Before you go blocking our in-house ads too, please keep in mind that these advertisers are directly supporting TL and since they are targeting TL specifically, we hope they will be offering products and services that interest you.
If you have any feedback about the TL ads system, please post in the Website Feedback forum. If you're interested in buying advertising on TL, please see our advertising page for more information.
Sponsored Threads While banner advertising is a great way to get exposure, some advertisers have expressed interest in a more interactive advertising option. We've filled this need with the Sponsored Threads section which will replace Featured Threads under the News sidebar. Advertisers can pay a fixed weekly fee for a Sponsored Thread that will be listed on the sidebar until it expires. The advertiser then has freedom to post and use the thread to promote their product or service however they like - eg running contests / competitions, giveways, soliciting feedback, etc.
We believe this will also be a great way for a community advertiser to promote his or her product. Thus, we will be offering a separate "community" rate for advertisers who are directly related to TeamLiquid or the Starcraft 2 community. We will also be offering special introductory rates for those that wish to help us launch this new advertising feature. If you're interested in a sponsored thread, please contact us through the advertising page.Last edit: 2012-08-23 09:35:36 |

hmm this is very interesting, I gotta say I miss the "category icons" next to the news titles you used to have on the frontpage. It looks a bit more bland now with just pure text.
Its smart in a way that you won't get a bunch of banners and images cluttering the site, but on the other hand it might be difficult to attract sponsors when they get a thread title in like 8px large text font as their way of bringing in users to their actual advertisement thread. Surely not as easily spotted as an actual banner. |

| Sounds reasonable enough. I particularly like the fact that 'community rates' are being offered. This is a really smart solution for I believe it can actually add to the organization and highlighting of events and services, rather than have them thrown elsewhere. |

I know many people use adblock, and just use a filter. I'm good at the blocking of things, but how do i go about unblocking just the "good adds" |

| I'm unable to see these in-house ads, if they're already up. I use AdMuncher, which updates itself periodically, as opposed to AdBlock. Is there an exception I can add to be able to view these specific ads? |

| What's happening with the Small VOD/Recommended VOD threads? I can still access them through search or through the forum index, but since Featured Threads isn't on the sidebar anymore, are these important threads going to be moved to other sections? |

I really don't see the point of this, but good job I guesS? Edit: Does this mean gosucoaching doesn't get free threads anymore?

If you use Firefox adblock, right click the little red "ABP" sign in your status bar and click "Disable on teamliquid.net".
If you use the Chrome adblock, right click anywhere in the page, use the AdBlock menu and click "Don't run on this domain".

The first one we have up uses Flash, so if you block Flash you won't see it. It does have "ads" in the URL so maybe your ad blocker is blocking it too.

Streams on TeamLiquid aren't in the TL.net domain. They're embedded and count as livestream.com, ustream.com, etc. |

| There's plenty of people who would donate to TL if there was an option, don't really see the need for the intrusive ads and sponsors. You'll probably get more money from donations than from all the ads anyways. |

I have a question. Is it safe to assume that all the threads currently in the non-sponsored forums are the type of threads which people won't have to pay for? And only threads and posts that are currently being closed or deleted will be in the sponsored thread forums? Or is the line between the threads that someone will have to pay to post and the threads which someone won't have to pay to post somewhere different?
While being absolutely precise is impossible, can you at least talk about what you have in mind? |

| Not sure I quite get the Sponsored Thread idea, so they are just popular threads on TL that the advertiser can pay advertising rights for? Or are they specific threads by TL that you nominate as sponsorable - e.g. I guess if you do a new TL Attack post you might want to put it up for sponsors as it will get a lot of hits and benefit from some interactive advertising. |

| I'll wait and see before deciding whether to block it with my userstyle or not. When announcing something like this to the community, isn't the most important thing to explain what the advertising money is used for? I'll assume some or all of it goes back to the community, for example, for future TL starleagues, the Liquid` team, and such. |

Advertisers can make a thread of their own specifically for advertising something they're selling/trading, and have TL feature it in the sponsored section to provide coverage. Essentially just paying for the privilege of advertising in threads, if i understand the OP correctly. |

How are these any more intrusive than regular ads? It's not like we're showing popups or a huge leaderboard or skyscraper, these are the same sized banners that we've always used. As for the Sponsored Threads, this is a nice way to organize all the commercial offerings on TL without people worried about them being blatant advertisements if we allowed them in regular forums. I don't understand how you can find them intrusive in the slightest.

Sponsored Threads will primarily be for people who are part of our community but also want to promote a product / service, for example offering SC2 coaching or Starcraft related merchandise. They will also be used for people unaffiliated with our community to reach out and interact with us, such as promoting a contest, soliciting feedback, etc, with a higher rate charged. |

Small VOD Thread's a sticky in BW now. Maybe recommended vods will get moved there too, though 4 stickies might be too many. |
