Although this is largely unintrusive and extremely reasonable right now. Please be careful. With increasing the commercial aspects of running a website, there runs the risk of alienating parts of the community, generally leading to the ever feared "sellout" threads and posts which will be inevitable.
So far though, I am largely happy with the changes, as I do find blatant advertising in threads to be quite annoying.

The category icons! That's what it was that's gone.. I did notice that the front page looks slightly more tight, less cluttered.
About the sponsored threads not being attractive, I don't entirely agree. The sponsored threads sounds quite unique to me in that there is the interaction aspect. The amount of attention for a thread can easily be assessed by looking at post and viewer count of a thread. Potential sponsors can look through that forum section's history. The sponsor information page could serve statistics on the specifically purchased threads on viewer and post counts (aggregated). Sponsors who have ventured into this path of advertisements could leave testimonials. The small advertisement space can initially be seen as an issue but good statistics can make up for that. I like the unobtrusiveness, and I give kudos to TL. |

No but seriously, I've had adblock disabled on TL for almost all the time I'm here, and I have never found the ads to be annoying or intrusive. So if it stays this way, I'm glad that you find some new ways of financing the whole site  |
