Today, I had a lot of fun. Why? Because I hosted a Starcraft 2 tournament with 16 of my friends, and most of them don't even own the game.
So basically, when Starcraft 2 came out, only 2 people in my group of friends got the game. Gradually, me and my brother have gotten more and more people to get the game, and it felt like this was the next step.
We've been organizing this tournament for a month. We got everybody to bring 10$ for a prize pool and pizza, as well as a laptop if they had one. We set up a Powerpoint presentation for before the tournament to explain the rules of the tourney, the basics of the game, and describing the maps (We used iCCup maps, and maps of our own creation). We set up a TV with an HDMI cord to have everyone watch certain games on the big screen while we had 2 other matches in the background. It started, and it was a blast, an all-day experience that included mothership rushes, Day9 Sentry monobattles, awesome macro games, Thor rushing, and two noobs 6 pooling each other (THAT was awesome).
Some players getting intense.
So I urge everyone to spread the Starcraft 2 Love, whether it's making an elaborate tournament like this, or just showing some of your friends some casts, I promise it'll be worthwhile.

I'm a fan of the books and the ship, of and of course, player-made Starcraft 2 tournaments.

I'd love to do something like this. You got all your friends to buy the game?

We got two guest accounts for the people who didn't have the game. Worked very well. We did get around 15 people to buy it though through showing them VODs and how to play and such. Funday Mondays are great to get people wanting to play.

I'm the one with the red hair and the tie as a bandanna. It was really fun, and we all had a good time. People should do things like this more often. We should do another one of these sometime, really.

Looks like you had a really good time, I wish I could convince my friends to play starcraft but most of them don't even have computers capable of running it .

Sick, nice that you organized this for your friends!

I did a similar thing like this with my buddies, first time had a double elimination tournament, second time, had a team-based match. It's really fun stuff, even if the skill level might not be as high as pro tournaments.
Pretty badass that you did this.

Looks like fun I've been trying to get some of my friends from college to form a team for cstarleague (I know we'll suck but it will be fun) hopefully I'll have as much success as you have.

Heh, that looks like a blast. Always nice to get more people into the games you like and them actually liking and wanting to play each other. Makes me wish my friends liked this sort of gaming as much as me.
