I wouldn't worry about price, but rather look at the build quality and performance. Coming from experience, Logitech has always had very good build quality, there's a reason why some people are still using their MX518 or G1s even today. Also, a lot of 'gaming' mice are overpriced for the performance they give. For instance, allow me to quote iNkind from ESReality about the Microsoft WMO 1.1a:
The mouse that won, ESWC 2005, CPL Winter 2005, WSVG Dreamhack, Intel Summer Championship, WSVG UK, WSVG Grand Finals, WCG 2006, KODE5, Quakecon 2006..... You can buy this mouse on Newegg for ~$12 USD, and it will outperform a lot of current mice that are in upwards of $35-65 more than the WMO. |

Logitech G3 is discontinued, and as a rule I'm not adding discontinued mice to the list. While I realize you could probably find one on ebay, if I start adding every good mouse that's every been made the list is going to get absurdly long. The discontinued ones were put on the list before they were discontinued (not sure why I put the mx518 on the list...) so I have since just marked them as such as opposed to just deleting them. At some point I will clear them off or maybe add an additional section.

There is no such thing as a "best mouse". For playing an RTS you will want a mouse with a higher DPI/CPI (i.e. probably not an MS Intellimouse) that glides well. Everything else beyond that is totally dependent on you. Everyone has different shaped hands and grips their mouse differently. Someone with smaller hands might find the SS Kinzu makes a good palm grip mouse, someone with bigger hands likely would not. Figure out what grip style you prefer (see the Razer Ergonomics guide linked in the OP) and what size mouse you prefer (see wo1fwood's guide a few posts up).

still waiting on it, btw hihi welcome to tl ~ and ur from iran! i already know that the mouse is gonna suck cus everyone has told me that it jitters alot, im pretty sure logitech is gonna come out with a firmware fix for it tho so the only thing that i took into consideration when buying the mouse was its shape i also just ordered an abyssus, should arrive in a few days(LOL damn ive been spending so much $ recently, bought a realforce board, 2x noppoo choc mini's, 2x g400's, a da, a abyssus, a g100, a g9x, a bunch of PBT caps, some custom made ABS keycaps, a filco board and a zowie ec2)
Please let us know what your thoughts are on these when you get them, especially on the construction quality of the abyssus; that's something I've heard a lot of complaints about. I think it would be very helpful for a lot of people to hear the opinions of someone who literally uses a gaming mouse in their job

Skylit's OCN threadLogitech G100 on eBayEdit: so the G100 is basically the same size as the mx300 and G1 at 115x60x33mm.
LOGITECH PLEASE THAT HERE NOW!!!! Looks so good. No one is really making a good ambidextrous mouse without acceleration or construction issues (abyssus) right now. I would love to give that thing a try. Looks like there was a seller on Amazon but they are unsurprisingly sold out.

Sometimes I have short bursts of mouse-lag in SC2, where I lose any control over the cursor for ½-3 seconds after which it returns to normal (trying to enact whatever movements, selections etc. I made). I changed to this mouse recently and it wasnt a problem with my old mouse (Logitech mx518). Any ideas what the cause could be?
PS. Sorry I cant describe the problem in greater detail, but I cant force it to happen and when it happens im usually busy in the game :O.
I could be an issue with falty mouse hardware, could also be an issue with Windows, or an issue with drivers. Are you using Logitech's latest drivers or the base Windows drivers?

Here's a quick review of 90% of the mice i've owned over the years
Microsoft Intellimouse 3.0 - 10/10 Really, the best mouse i have ever owned. I'm not sure why i didn't just replace it with another one. I've owned it for 3 years and it hasn't let me down at all, it's sturdy and it tracks amazingly on every surface I've put it on.
got replacement feet after a year from puretrak and it felt even nicer than when i first bought it.
Logitech G5 - 4/10 Left click broke after 6 months. i found that tracking was very sensitive to hair. took me a long time to get used to using it.
Logitech G500 - 6/10 Tracks better than the G5, seems to have some form of forced correction. clicks feel sturdy. used it for about a week before selling it for $20 to a friend.
Note: i never used drivers for Logitech mice because it felt as if they used too much memory and were fairly hard to deal with.
Razer/Microsoft Habu - 4/10 it felt amazing like the ie 3.0, it tracked well and it worked well but it broke again after 6 months. this time the cable seemed to have broken at the connection from the mouse to the usb cable. the left click also sometimes double clicked.
Razer Diamondback - 8/10 The first gaming mouse i ever purchased. it felt great, the feet glided on almost any surface, the laser tracked well and didn't seem to have any form of correction, the drivers worked fairly easily. replaced it because i broke it at a LAN via rage.
Steelseries Sensei - 9/10 Doesn't feel as amazing as the ie 3.0 ever did. i have it set at 800cpi/1000hz and exactlift at 7% every other setting as off.
It tracks perfectly on my razer mantis control (which I've had for every mouse I've owned) the clicks feel solid, abeit loud. and the ambidextrous design should be good for anybody looking for a decent mouse. I've hit the CPI change button once or twice on accident but it's easy to fix because you don't need to flip your mouse and press a button or anything crazy like that.
also, PINK LED'S and it's incredibly aesthetically pleasing
conclusion: buy an ie 3.0 it's great unless you're gaming at 2560×1600 or something, then get a mouse with a higher dpi/cpi. |

Again, it's dangerous to judge a mouse by it's price. The Mamba while being stupidly expensive, I'll bet it doesn't perform nearly as well as the Deathadder or the Abyssus which are less than half the price.
I wouldn't exactly say that the G400 is the best per se, the G9x for example is a pretty decent mouse from what I understand, but it is a much different shape and more suitable for those with either smaller hands or claw/fingertip users. Same would be the case with the G1(drastically different shape/size). As for the G500, it uses the Avago 9500 and has some noticeable +/- accel issues while the 3080E in the G400 has perfect PtP (point to point) tracking. The G500 is also going to be heavier than the G400 by about 20g, but it also has more buttons and weight tuning and a higher max cpi. Another thing would be the sensor position on the G500 is much further forward than then G400 (centered is best), but that may be too nitpicky for some. Before the very recent update, the G500 had the ability to turn off prediction, but the latest builds of the G400 have fixed that according to the Logitech rep.
Anyway a lot of what this comes down to is preference (features, grip, what games you play), and on paper I'd give the definite edge to the G400, but in the end it's your decision (for example, the side buttons on the G500 would annoy me to no end). |

Depends on your grip. Are you a palm or a fingertip user? If you're a palm, DeathAdder. If you're a fingertip, you might want to look at the Abyssus. |

I had a few questions about my mouse (the Razor Naga). I've had the mouse for awhile because back in the day I used to play WoW.
My first question is about the legitmacy of this mouse in competitive play. I've never seen a progamer with this mouse, and was wondering if it would be prevented from competitive play at all. Since I've played with this mouse for so long, I've gotten accustomed to binding certain control groups with the number pad on the side and I'm starting to think that this is developing bad mechanics. I don't use any macros with the buttons, just use them as 1-0 for control groups. If this mouse is legit (or if using the number pad on the sides is) then I imagine getting better at mechanics binding groups this way is fine (because I'll always be able to use my own mouse), but just curious.
I also had a question about the claw vs fingertip grip. The Naga pretty much demands a claw grip because your thumb has to be pretty far up the left side to hit the thumb buttons. My question is if the claw grip is worse for my carpal tunnel than a fingertip grip would be. My carpal tunnel isn't super bad, it kinda comes and goes.
Thanks for anyone taking a look at this and assuaging my OCD thoughts about the mouse I use. |

The Sensei has the best implementation of the 9500 yet. According to Skylit from Overclock.net (the expert on mice), the acceleration starts to kick in at movements with a speed of around 30-40 IPS (0,8-1,2 m/s). According to cmh, the acceleration can get lowered (down to 1-3 %), when using a good mouse pad (like the Artisan Hayate). If you want to find out if you move your mouse fast enough, to trigger the acceleration, try this: Download Enotus mouse test (no need to install, just run it), move your mouse 10 cm while pressing down a button and click on "Start" in the tab Speed and start playing; check the "Max speed" after playing.).Last edit: 2012-01-29 23:17:01 |

TeamLiquid Artist Directory
Welcome. With all of the various individuals, communities, and companies that frequent TeamLiquid.net I felt that it was past time that we had a dedicated thread to the many artists who hang out here, and contribute to the growth of this and larger communities on a regular basis. Wherever these contributions are seen, this thread is a place to catalogue the pieces we've created, show our styles, choices and capabilities, and in the hope to create a stronger collective where all artists on TL can discuss, collaborate, and think critically about our careers and our work.
This thread has essentially four purposes. The first is as a directory and catalogue of art from the contributing artists. The second is to help better connect the these artists better with each other, but also with the community at large through their medium. The third purpose is to give artists a centralized space from which they can use find tools and items to create and develop their work better. The fourth is an attempt to foster a stronger community of artists and help spur critical discussions, critiques, or whathaveyou. Regarding the third purpose, the second half of this first post is entirely dedicated to listing a great many tools that we as creators have available to use, objects, textures, effects, equipment, and other elements, or resources, or knowledge in order to create better, more informed, and more robust content.
Further down your will find the directory of artists who are 'affiliated' with this goal or project, which also serves partly as a portfolio of the things that each artist has done here on teamliquid.net and abroad. This project aims to include all walks of artist, whether you are simply a hobbyist, someone who likes to toy around with things, or an aspiring or current professional in your respective fields.
For the potential artist, how does this work exactly? Anyone who would like to be a part of this project need only submit a portfolio of things they've done (if a performer it is understood that this may be more difficult, or not possible), and choose 4-6 pieces that will be 'featured', used as a reference of what your stylistic choices are, how capable you are, and the like (representative works or performances, if applicable). Accompanying this will be a small writeup stating what kind of artist you are, and what you do (try to stay around ~300 characters. Basically, tell us what you do in as few words as is necessary). Here’s an example template:
Artist Statement Hey TL, I am a classically trained musician with composition being my primary profession, however I also perform professionally as a opera/choral singer, and as a ballet dancer. Additionally I am a graphic artist, though I am largely self taught in this area. You can find my full bio on my personal website (link would be found below). The rest of your work will be, if you like, tagged and linked so that we can achieve a balance between building a repository of TL artwork while also being able to feature a good amount of content in this thread as well (visual artists for obvious reasons necessitate this separated format due to our unique image url limit on TL).
This is an ongoing project and nothing is set in stone, so I'll be trying to tweak it here and there to best feature what our amazing community does. If you have ideas or information/assets that you use that you feel should be included please feel free to contribute, especially in the lit section as I am very much lacking in how to approach this area.
Please remember that if you use pieces done by an artist to please credit them for their work.
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/4fBBQ.png) What you will find below is a wealth of useful assets, images, links, and software or tools commonly used by many people here, all found in an easily accessible location. It should be noted that in finding media assets like for example textures, Google is your friend. Also, many of the digital assets listed here should be read as there are quite a number of great resources to help out with issues of formatting, typography, and other important considerations.

The closest competition for Adobe Photoshop. Adobe Illustrator • Another industry standard. Like Photoshop it is a powerful vector-based graphic editing program. Corel Draw • Similarly to Illutrator, Draw is a vector-based graphic editor from Corel. Adobe InDesign • Another powerful tool from Adobe Stystems. This program shares many of the same features of the previous two, but is quite well suited to magazine, brochure, and newspaper projects (and now tablet applications). GIMP • A free, pixel-based editor for Windows or Apple systems. Inkscape • An open source vector-based editing program. Also free. Pixelmator • Another pixel-based editor for Apple users. Not free, but very cheap. png crush • A png file size optimizer. Not really necessary for most people but if you are mindful of bandwidth and server costs, you may want to look into this program. Processing • A java based environment that is used for generative design. Open Frameworks • Another generative design environment similar to processing. Coded in C++, so it is far more powerful, though the learning curve is a bit steeper.

I'm not sure I understand. Maybe we can try this again with actual sentences? It sounds like a driver issue to me, but could just as easily be a faulty/dead mouse.
@wo1fwood that looks so awesome. Editing in now! |

This won't help you, but many Xai users do experience problems like your's. The Xai has many, many features, which make it prone to errors ... |

Hey I saw NesTea using 7/11 in mouse sensitivity while on stream in the IM house. Is this some sort of secret or am I wrong in thinking the thread and guide on liquipedia say that 7/11 is bad?
Video of Stream

Here's a screencap of him using the settings + Show Spoiler +
Is it a secret that only IM know? Is it something to do with Korean computers? Is it something to do with Streaming? Yes i'm new to sc2. I just got a new mouse and was looking up some settings to try out to see how they feel for me.
I felt like making a new thread for this because there's a lot of information in my post but after reading the guidelines I posted here. Sorry for the length. |

http://www.overclock.net/t/173255/cs-s-mouse-optimization-guide, read sections 1.2 and 1.3 for a good description of the problem and why anything other than 6/11 introduces tracking inaccuracies. We also don't know what Nestea is doing with Setpoint (is he bypassing it, has he messed with the settings, is it even installed), and that may be a contributing factor. My guess is that he only has 1000cpi to work with (korean G1) and likely needs ~1200cpi to feel more comfortable.
Vigor: I'm still confused, so you plugged it into another PC and it worked (as in you moved it around)? You may want to try to go to device manager and delete the usb mouse driver in there (HID compliant device or the like), and then try to re-scan for changes to see if windows registers the mouse. Also, I just recently overclocked my USB polling rate incorrectly for an older mouse, which rendered the USB port inoperable (fixed that by the same device manager thing).Last edit: 2012-01-31 06:21:31 |
