It's sometimes known as the dice roll mouse, some people get one with the jitter issue. It is overall a good mouse if you find the shape comfortable and has a great sensor, it is a bit on the small side and more for claw/finger grip.

Does it have any hardware acceleration?

Afaik, it uses the same optical sensor as the DA so it shouldn't have any accel.

Yes it has prediction. Every single modern optical mouse has prediction. A mouse has to have prediction in order to fill in the blanks between going from point A to point B and to make sure surface problems are ironed out.

You can have too much prediction yes. The MX518 1800 DPI has more prediction than its 1600 legacy variant. But you cant have none. If you want zero prediction you might as well go to McDonalds or whatever and buy a trash 5 dollar McMouse because your mousing is gonna be garbage anyway.

In order to avoid too much prediction in your mousing experience, the polling rate has to be raised. That way the mouse has to predict less. Make sense? I have a picture somewhere that demonstrats it. Found on that exact same website in fact.

if you poll a 518 to 1khz its perfect.

EDIT: Found the article.

Check on page 22. Also check the OP for more information.

You can break down a mouses movements into 3 or 4 categories.

Movements that are inhuman and involuntary. Prediction is needed to filter these.
Movements that are possibly human but no chance of voluntary. You can debate about these. But generally prediction is preferred.
Movements that are human with a chance of voluntary. Prediction is adjustable to however the manufacturer wants. Further attempts to mind read can be seen as angle snapping and thats where we gamers draw the line.

In any case prediction problems is mostly a thing of the past since today's mice all poll at around 1k. It takes a huge amount of over prediction to cause any noticeable change in course.

Can anyone here give a recommendation on the Logitech m510 for $40. Good deal or bad deal? I'm getting a mouse soon and it has to be wireless.

Edit: found it for $31 on amazon. Basically I'm just wandering if it's a good mouse or not.

Does it need to be big or laser-based? Otherwise just go with the Logitech M305/V220 or if you want a smaller mouse or for the same size go for the M310, which is the same mouse but with an optical sensor. I've had trouble with the wireless laser Logitech mice (I had the precursor to the M510, which was the V450, and it gave me a lot of trouble tracking on lighter surfaces, which reading through the reviews of the M510, it sounds like that problem still persists) but the optical ones like the V220/M305 tracked a lot better. The added bonus is the optical Logitechs are about $15 cheaper.

Alright, I believe this is the right place to ask this question so here I go...

Somewhat recently I got a new mouse (Logitech G400) with adjustable DPI. It defaults at 800, max of 3200.

Just yesterday I read this thread, discussing how you should turn off enhance pointer precision, and set your windows sensitivity to 6/11 to avoid pixel skipping. Now normally I had it set to 1600dpi, but after making those changes the sensitivity didn't feel right, so I decided to put up the DPI to 3200. This is when it became blatantly obvious that it was skipping pixels (even though windows sensitivity is set to 6/11 and I applied the registry fix for mouse acceleration.) as I moved the DPI up, I also tried the 'making circles' from the CS:S mouse optimization guide and it was even more obvious every DPI over 800 was skipping pixels.

Now I'm wondering if this is normal, Should I get a new mouse with hopefully a higher default DPI?

Thanks in advance.

is there a mouse thats like a deathadder in terms of specs and decent drivers, but without the rubbery grips, i love using my DA, but the rubbery coating is comming off. the ideal thing would to have a DA without a coating that rubs off so easily. the grip doesnt really bother me as i use a claw grip on my laptop, i do however would like to have the two thumb buttons.

Yea I''ve had my eyes on that also, the shape looks really close to the mx300 which is what I used for years playing RTS games.

Hey guys I posted before that I've been thinking of getting the abyssus (now using xai).

However the CPI settings are so far apart. Being only able to set it to 450/1800/3500 CPI is making me think twice, since on my xai I am very used to gaming on about 1200 CPI.

When I try gaming on 1800, it's too much; and of course, vice versa on 450 CPI.

Any other solutions? Other mice perhaps?

Who will be manufacturing this mouse? That looks very promising, although maybe a little bit too light.

Oh so lucky! Well I'm glad he is letting some pros test it first for competitive play. Everything so far about it seems perfect!

Apparently there will be slots inside the mouse so you can add more weight, he will probably be selling the weights on his site, but opening the mouse does void the warranty.

I love that it's that light, I'm getting the g100 and as soon as it's delivered I'm taking the weight out of it! I already have some replacement mouse feet. Now I hope I don't run into any problems with jitter (I got lucky with the abyssus).

Just posting some more feedback!

I got my hands on a Razer Imperator 2012. If anyone remembers, I've recently tried the Razer Abyssus and the Logitech G300 because I like small and light mice. Unfortunately this kind of mouse also often corresponds to the lower end offerings of most manufacturers, it seems, with most of the bells and whistles going to the bigger, 'ergonomic' kind of mice. I wanted to try a high-end mouse that could still fit a fingertip grip, and I can tell you that my experience with the Imperator 2012 is quite excellent.

It is larger than the aforementioned mice and a bit heavier too (although not much more than the G300), but as soon as you put your hand on it it really feels like a high end mouse. The texture of the plastic is very pleasant on all sides and the buttons are easy to push and extremely responsive. The feet glide perfectly and the tracking is extremely precise. I have only praise for this mouse.

I have heard of some issues with the sensor in the past, and I wonder if it could have to do with the way the mouse 'calibrates'. It has two sensors -an optical one and a laser one. Upon plugging it in, the optical sensor scans the surface it is lying on in order to calibrate the laser sensor for better precision. Therefore you must make sure to have the mouse on your mousepad when you plug it in. I'm sorry if I'm stating the obvious but I certainly failed to do that the first time around and had issues because of it.

Overall I would recommend this mouse even to fellow fingertip grip users, it is formidable.

Thanks for reading.

Glad to see some other people here who liked the 4G Imperator.

I have one, and while the tracking isn't as lovely as on my Deathadder. I find the form factor of the Imperator to be my favorite of all the mice I've tried.

Yay! I just ordered a G1 off eBay from Korea (A reputable seller that I found references for on TL in old threads to do with the G1). I technically bought it for my laptop but I will give it a go on my desktop as well, though I bought it more for the novelty than anything. I think it'll be great for FPSs, even though it has a bit of acceleration. The mouse I used for FPS for like 5 years was the just a bit bigger but the same CPI. But alas, now I have to wait 3 weeks for it to ship. At least it has tracking so I can obsessively watch that.
