Just did a google search for it

Joystiq‘s got an interview with Mass Effect project lead Casey Hudson coming soon, but they decided to tease us with this bit: “We’re pulling in probably over a thousand variables from Mass Effect 2 into Mass Effect 3 if you’re importing your save game.”

Good. Now, what I’m curious about is if some of the things carried over from the first game that had no discernible effect on the second — like Helena Blake or Gianna Parasini, for example — will play into this big finale. Damn it, I really want Mass Effect 3 like yesterday. Though I guess I don’t mind having enough to time to play through the first two games another dozen times each in pepper-ation.

Idk how anyone can not play ME3 after playing the first two. Don't you want, even NEED to know what happens? The story/characters are too interesting to abandon imo, someone previously mentioned that the plot in number 2 was a bit filler-ish. I'm inclined to agree (at least partly) but we can't know how important Cerb and the Collectors were until we see the end. Was still sick though. Plus it allowed for some interesting choices and character interactions working for 'the bad guys'.

I wanted to know what happens after I finished ME1; I wanted to 'get it over with' half-way through ME2. I'm curious how the 'Shepard saga' will end, but if Bioware doesn't return to form, that's all it will be, mere curiosity.

I'm really low on funds yet considering buying Mass Effect (1) on Steam. I really liked games like DX:HR, Xenogears, Final Fantasy, and Diablo2. Is ME a must have? I know that regulars in this thread will say yes, but try and be unbiased in your affirmative responses ^^ Keep in mind I might have to live on rations if I drop this $20. Furthermore, I'll apparently get dragged into spending more money on sequels.

Mass Effect 1 had a better storyline than ME2. However its inventory system is terrible and the AI is really dumb (especially those on your team are a bit... idiotic).

The storyline is absolutely amazing and I really enjoyed the game overall. There is no replay value, so wait until it goes on sale again to 5$.

ME1 is more RPG than ME2 and ME1 runs along the lines of making moral decisions that ultimately affect the play-out of major events, people/characters and the sequel should you ever engage in the sequel as well.

Buy it when it is on sale, as Torte said, at the end of this year during Christmas. That way, you'll be playing it not far off from the release of ME3

The story was absolutely amazing in the series. The combat in ME2 was immensely satisfying, the ending brilliant. I dunno about replay value, I've played ME1 three times, ME2 twice (one of them, I did not finish, I have a habit of not finishing games as I reach the end. I just finished ME2 for the first time last night). I'll probably buy the DLC at some point

Question, does Origin have sales? How to obtain promotional codes? They aren't randomly given out, are they?

You can get at least two good playthroughs from it with the Paragon and Renegade paths.

Played through ME1 twice and still stuck working on 2nd playthrough on the ME2, so I guess you could say I preferred ME1.

Doing two playthroughs other with Male/Renegade/Soldier and other with Female/Paragon/Adept provided fairly different experiences. Plus I think Mako got too much hate in general, found the controls to be good myself, even somehow forced myself to go through all the side quest planets in the game on my first playthrough but wouldn't recommend on doing that that.

There seems to be so many people that are Mass Effect "fans" but haven't even bothered playing the first game.

For people who want to get ME1 and ME2 in prep for ME3, bookmark Direct2Drive and check it every day. They run ridiculous specials on older titles, got both games at 75% off about 2 months ago.

Also, if you are like me and have played the games in the past, there seems to be no ill effects from activating the console and "granting" achievements to emulate a prior successful playthrough (for instance, I unlocked assault rifles and the XP gain for my adept). Play on hardcore and don't forget to get out of vehicles when fighting armatures for tons more XP.

Thanks for the advice. I got Kotor for $10 instead and loved it. I found out about The New Republic being an MMO, however, and my thoughts quickly wandered back to ME as a next consideration. I'm hoping ME has a much better balance as far as character building. I really liked Kotor, but not for how crappy your character can turn out if you don't go fairly cookie cutter.

Is any new game other than Skyrim and Diablo3 going to offer anything similar? I mostly want a strong single player experience, not necessarily something with the sweet RPG choices and story of Kotor, although those would be definite pluses--after I get more income or cut other spending that is^^ Btw, I realize Diablo3 is not much like Kotor, but it still provides atmosphere, hopefully.

Wait what are you talking about no replay value? Both games have tons of incentives for playing through a second time. And a third time. And a fourth time.

Well, it looks like Mass Effect 3 is going to have multiplayer after all.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-10-10-mass-effect-3-multiplayer-confirmed

I am ambivalent about this. Multiplayer is a great feature for a game to have so long as it used wisely, but does Mass Effect really need it? Will it take away from the singleplayer? I don't know. Bioware is pouring its resources into the Mass Effect franchise so it is reasonable for a multiplayer component to be present without detracting from the overall experience.

I think the game can be really good even with the addition of multiplayer. Look at Bioshock 2 and Assassins creed. Both games know for the story that added multiplayer and were really good games. I just hope that they put their main focus on single player and then work on the multiplayer.

Just saw that. In BioWare we trust.
The game was delayed by what, a year? For the MP? I think this game will still be true to its core

MP for ME3 is fine... under one condition: that it does NOT come at the cost of the SP in any way whatsoever. I think it would have been better if they released ME3 as SP only like the first two, and later released an MP-only game instead, call it Mass Effect: Online or Mass Effect: Universe or something.

...but I guess if they manage to include an MP for ME3 without reducing the effort being put on the SP, I can live with it. Whether it will actually be good enough to be worth playing the MP is yet unclear though.

I've got a feeling it will be some kind of co-op.. perhaps using some of the tech they have come up with for Star Wars the Old Republic, the group conversations etc

I don't feel that Mass Effect needs multiplayer though.. I liked talking to friends about there own experiences through the series and our differing viewpoints of what happened/will happen

Might be fun though..

Good to see that it's just co-op mode.. Wasn't really interested in some sort of competitive mass effect experience... Now we just have to pray that the SP doesn't suck balls!
