| ME is my favorite series of this generation. I dont really care if they put multiplayer in the game, but by god it better not take away from the the single player in either design or in effort or in content or I will be so pissed. |

That's a compliment to every Call of Duty since the first one considering they have all been mindless shooters that cater to the casual gamer.
But on the topic of ME3, ME2 in my opinion was one of the best RPG's of all time and I look forward to the next installment in the series. There was a significant increase in quality between the first two games, and I'm sure that the third one will be better than the other two. |

Never played the single player. But the multiplayer is very meh
Well I think you're missing out. The campaigns good critical reception was well earned. |

| I actually only care about ME3's ending. There's no way it will offer gameplay as stimulating as Starcraft's, so if the narrative it offers is unsatisfying and fails to deliver catharsis... it will have no value for me. And I'll feel like a fucking tool for spending so many hours playing through ME1, ME2, and finally ME3. |

The first two had a great deal of awesome touches in the campaign that I loved. Little things like having the paratroopers actually land properly and a fair bit of historical accuracy (well, as much as could be expected). I really liked them, as a nerd.
The new ones are mindless shootemups, but I love em for what they are.
ME on the other hand, is made by BioWare, and is, therefore, the best thing ever. |

ME2 had problems, it was a great game, but there were things holding it back. Without going into small complaints, mining, limited exploration options and very linear missions were the problem.
The trailer just confirms it's ME3 which is disappointing. They don't give any hints whatsoever, if you played ME2 you know bad things are coming you just didn't know they were going to hit Earth as an act of revenge.
I would have liked to know how they're going to do ME3 if the player is starting a new game which will probably be default set to Sheppard dying in ME2 along with the rest of the crew. How is the whole party system going to work when many of the characters from the past game could be dead? Replacements sure, but are they going to remove all the ME2 characters and just have em as side characters?
There are ways of writing them off even if they lived like Thane who is dying anyways, Tali going back home and Jack going wherever, but some characters like Miranda and Jacob would not leave if they survived. A lot of other minor questions about the ending but the other big thing is what exactly are the foot soldiers that you'll be fighting? ME is not a space flight game so you can't face Reapers personally and unless we're just going to be fighting Husks now with guns they have nothing to replace Geth and Collectors with.Last edit: 2010-12-12 16:24:18 |

They've been thinking about a big space battle for ME3. I played the lair of the shadow broker DLC and it looks like they have the groundwork in place a for simple Starfox style rail shooter. Not going to hold my breath for something jaw droppingly awesome as this this but one can hope that someone is inspired to create a freespace 2 mod with a reaper battle. It might also be fun for the reaper battle to play out something like the homeworld games, but it would have to be dumbed down to console mini games obviously.
I really do hope that Earth will only take a small part of ME3, because everything we've been lead to believe points towards it been a shithole with little value as a military or economic target.Last edit: 2010-12-12 16:43:04 |

+ Show Spoiler [Mass Effect - Retribution] + In the book Retribution Cerberus injects one human with "Reaper nanites" - for science. He gains superhuman strength, speed, regeneration but is also controlled by the Reapers. That would be an option, especially when the Reapers attack Earth early on they would have plenty of "soldiers" at their disposal (from human colonies on the way).
What they will do with the characters - maybe 1-2 recurring ones. Rest will be put aside. Maybe they'll join the final battle as random bystanders - who knows. Or they get the Shepard treatment from Cerberus |

| I don’t get what everyone is overreacting about. Also why is COD being brought up in the discussion of the multiplayer? Anyways I think if splinter cell can have a great single and multiplayer (referring to the second and third,) then why can this not. |

What are you talking about? They already removed all the RPG elements from the game in ME2. Worst thing they can do is not put them back in.

In what way were the "rpg elements" of ME2 stripped down when compared to the first game?
How about the poor plot? They could have done so much with the cipher and trying to stop Reapers from finding a way out of dark space/finding pieces of weapon against reapers. Instead they added way too many characters (as great as many of them were) and the main plot did little to advance the overall story. Actually I bet if you took out ME2 you'd find pretty good continuity between the main plot of ME1 and ME3. ME1 had a solid, if simple, story. ME2 was just a series of vignettes.
That is a good answer. The stat system was almost completely removed, and a skill progression system was put in place and inventory was removed entirely in favor of an unlock-and-upgrade system. These are hallmarks of the classic RPG model, and it's only understandable that the removal of such features would alienate a specific player base.
This is the answer that I expected. If these are the things that one thinks make an RPG, then one should go play Borderlands.

I'm looking forward to see how this pans out, although I am somewhat surprised (in a good way) that they've taken a more gameplay-oriented approach for ME3.

| My only worry is the short development time. I DON'T want the game to be rushed, I'd rather see them release it in 2012 |

The OP could use some tweaking :> It's kinda lame right now and doesn't give any information about the upcoming game. Would be nice to have an official ME3 thread.
When is the game released btw? |

Even less of an RPG? Is that even possible? |
