Streaming HD Quality with Xsplit (Own3D.TV)?

Hello, after much research and the consumption of my day. I have finally gotten to stream my channel and broadcast it properly.

However, I noticed, in comparison to some other channels, mine is not HD and I cannot figure out why I can't set it to a level of HD quality.

Here are the specs of my computer:

Win 7 64-bit.
ATI 5850 Radeon
4 Gigs of Ram
AMD Phenom II x4 965 (3.4 GHz)
1920 x 1080p (32-bit, 23-inch monitor)

For my internet connection:
I have about a 1 Mbp upload rate (I doubt that's very high).

As for my settings, I have VSync off and all the recommended features the site suggests). Except I changed a few things around:

Quality: 10
Max Bitrate: 950 kbps
Buffer Size: 200
Resolution: 1280 x 720 (If I set this to 1920 x 1080, it gives me a green overlaying screen surrounding my broadcasted image).
FPS: 20-25

I apologize if this has been asked a million times before or I should research some more, I've tried looking for a similar question to this, but their solutions did not prevail and my own searchings hasn't achieved much results.

Thanks.

The issue is the bitrate. You really need a high connection of around 2mbs-4mbs for a crisp 720p image. (The reason why MLG did only a HQ stream and not HD, is their max bitrate of 1.6mbs wasn't enough for a really good 720p Stream) Anything less will result in somewhat sub-par quality. You still can get a decent looking stream though. The issue is, having a 1mbs connection and a 950kbs uprate will lag you pretty hardcore. I suggest going with about 650kbs. While it won't be the best quality, but it wont lag you hardcore on any games you do either.

The buffer size auto-defaults to a number, should I change that? I used to have it at 200-300.

I'm just looking for the quality of my stream to be above those that I usually see on Livestream (usually looks like a mosaic).

Sadly, I guess that means I might need a higher upload connection eh?

you have to be aware of your audio bitrate as well. audio+video must be less than your total upload speed. 950 is obviously already near your limit so that tells me you are probably running into a connection bottleneck.

try 800kbps for video, 64000 for audio, and try using the default buffer value

Also, audio needs far, far less bandwidth than video.
So don't be too stingy, sometimes I run across streams which when watching on my proper setup sound tinny and overcompressed. Just a reminder :-P

@a176:
64000 means 64kbps?? Please don't for the love of my ears. Go 96kb, that's much better and is a marginal increase in bw.

First off you need atleast 1mbps upload
Second you should use 720p, quality on 6 (10 just eats bandwidth with no visual difference) and the best audio quality on MP3 codec. buffer set to 2000 and bitrate set to 1000

if anything is wrong after this than you need more upload

use speedtest.net to make sure you have the speed needed

Hi, I just wanted to state that I am having a similar issue. My PC specs are in my signature, and I am using verizon fios 30mbps download / 25mbps upload, so my speed is fine, along with my specs. I set the settings to default at first (quality = 6, etc), and noticed it was total crap (my xsplit stated I was streaming at 200kbps). Then, I bumped my settings to max (10 quality, etc), and still noticed the stream was going at 200kbps.

I seriously am clueless, because it cannot be my internet connection, nor my computer. Any advice? ;'(

www.speedtest.net .. streaming can depend on your upload speeed. note: this site uses megabits per second so to transfer to kilobytes per second use google or do the math.

if you can't upload HD then you won't upload HD.

I'm on my blackberry so when I get home ill paste you my speedtest results (I use speedtest all the time, and it is ~30/25 at all times, so even if you divide it by 8 for byte/bit conversion, I'm still way over speed constraints).

Any other advice? I seriously doubt its my internet speed. Its just too fast for this to be the problem- both upload and download.

Appreciate any/all help.

What bitrate and resolution have you set it to? Also when the screen isn't moving, the bitrate usage goes way down.

That is my speedtest results. As you can see, there is no speed problem whatsoever. (For some odd reason, it is determining me to be closest to Wichitau, Kansas right now. I live in NYC. Something must be wrong with my routing temporarily. (I ran Speedtest during my streaming session and it was perfectly routed to NY, NY / NJ with identical Up/Down speed/ping).

The bitrate is set to 1500 (I also did 14000 just to see if there was a difference), and the Quality is at 6 (Once again, amped it to 10 and no quality difference). P.S. I have done settings and restreams on both Justin.tv and own3D.tv with Xsplit- both have identical quality.

My resolution is set to Default Mixer Resolution. I am using 1920x1080P, and when I tried custom applying it to 1920x1080P, my screen would just broadcast all green, with a very tiny window being my display broadcast in the middle. No matter how much I stretched/expanded my broadcast window, the entire background was green.

I know the bitrate goes way down when I don't move. I was playing SC2 and told my friend to watch and comment on the quality- he said it was absolutely illegible.

P.S.S. This is a side problem, and not as crucial, but everytime I start Xsplit and go to Broadcast->Edit Channels, my Soundcard makes extremely loud twitching sounds and seems to be flickering On/Off. (I have an ASUS Xonar Essence STX; it makes that sound ONLY when I am booting up my computer. I have no idea why it makes that crazy fast twitchy-click sound, but it scares me, and I hope it doesn't damage my Soundcard).

Edit: Uploaded a snapshot of my Xsplit in action, while going live:

Make note of the bitrate. >,< ;_;

When your not doing anything graphics intensive, xsplit really doesn't use the allocated bandwidth that you have set up.

I tried to paste in the link of the picture, but it got truncated. Just open this link in your browser; this is what my stream looks like from a spectator watching: http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/1838/rons.jpg

That is a direct screen shot of me using the absolute highest quality settings in Xsplit for both own3D.tv and Justin.tv

Ironically, when I use Dynno (the default program for Justin.tv which gives you 10 free trials), I get WAY higher quality. And by WAY higher, I mean Livestream quality (Still very shitty).

I have a feeling I am doing something wrong with Xsplit, because how can Dyyno give me such better quality? -_-;;

I would totally concur with upload speed being the issue, but my upload speed seems fine. Any other thoughts? It's starting to kill me =(

This is happening to me too and I also have an Asus soundcard but a different model. I'm glad I'm not alone in this problem, but I hope it isn't doing any damage to my system.

Hey guys. I know this is a bit off topic, and I'm sorry for that, but I already tried the search function and I can't make my own thread yet because it hasn't been three days since I joined. Again, sorry for jacking your thread OP, but I need a quick question answered, and I was browsing through the tech support forum and this is the only thread that has something to do with my problem.

Anyways... I have my stream good and everything. I can stream to Twitch tv but one problem... whenever I try to stream SC2 it's just a black screen. My desktop and everything else streams great but SC2 doesn't stream at all. Does anyone know why?

Again, sorry OP for ruining your thread in a way :x
