The other day I picked up a Saiga for the first time in my battlefield 3 career and went on a huge killing spree. It was like shooting people made of butter.

That machinima was so awesome. Sometimes it got ridiculous with that one guy just dropping bodies like he was swatting flies (which incidentally liked to bum rush straight out of cover), but the production itself was pretty amazing O_O

It beats AR's, SMG's LMG's rifles, and snipers. That's what it's supposed to do. Because it's garbage outside of 100 meters. The only argument I'll give you is that slugs have too far of a shot range, but other than that they do their job fine.

In my experience shotguns are almost useless in BF3. I rarely OHK someone with them if they are >5m away even if i hit the head, maybe im just bad with shotguns dunno. IMO pump actions should be very strong in CQC, afterall they have low ROF and high reload time, the problem children are the semi auto shotguns they are much more forgiving than a pump action therfore they should also be weaker. About "realism" i have to say that BF3 is not a realistic game and never intended to be one. Its a caricature of war not a photorealistic depiction. If it was realistic every AR would kill in one or two shots up to atleast 300m, definitely if you hit the head. In BF3 you need 3 headshots to kill someone from 8m upwards thats not very realistic too. Gameplay/ballance wise i still think shotguns are rather weak thats why i rarely use them. Ofc they cant be as good as ARs overall because they are all kit weapons and it would disturb the class ballance if a all kit weapon would be as strong as a AR.

Yes, BF3 is a game prides itself over its so-called "realism" but really takes enjoyment over accuracy. Otherwise shotguns truly would be the most overpowered thing in the game hehe. But yeah, I agree that shotguns are supposed to be kind in CQC, but that doesn't mean they should be overpowered. I mean, snipers should be kind of long distance, but if they had 100% damage and no bullet drop they would be OP, but they would still king. It just feels unfair, is all I am saying, and at this point the only two shotguns that I respect people using or using myself are the 870 MCS, and the M1014. Other than that I feel like they are all just cheap and pretty unfair. Not just in uber CQC.

If you bring up the supposed realism aspect. Go tell suppression to fuck itself first, otherwise it's completely void.
Anyone who cares about realism is not playing a game made for their demographic. They need to go play simulators instead, or at least stop complaining en masse about things that should be disregarded as anything else than an absolute last priority.
