For me, the intro video is by far the biggest letdown of the entire campaign. Let me explain.
We know the Diablo 2 intro video. That masterpiece set a new standard. It began a bit weird, with the visitor into a jail. Then the captive began to remember the Wanderer ...
Then we had the WC3 video. After I saw this, I was so eager to play through the missions.
All the years I wondered how the SC2 intro video will look. I expected an epic video which would raise the bar once again. I expected wide-angled space shots with very large battle cruisers, and a touch of mystery which floats through the SC universe. I expected nothing less than a 4 minute video which would reveal some interesting fact from the old campaign, then slowly but steadily developing into a chain of unheard events which would now further develop during the campaign.
So I startet SC2 and then ... I saw the 3 years old teaser video with a new voice-over.
they should have added a video after you beat the campaign where it shows the terrans beating the zerg... at least 10 minutes long... before the explosion...
Mengsk and Kerrigan were boring, not-intimidating villains. They are quite embarrassing compared to their SC1 and BW counterparts.
Raynor's relationship with Kerrigan did indeed seem forced. What happened to the Raynor who vowed to kill her no matter what? And in the first Terran campaign they were nothing more then friends.
10 years after SC1 I expected them to have a little more creativity for missions and not constantly fall back on HOLD THIS PLACE FOR xx MINUTES. The few missions in the campaign that were not run-of-the-mill-stuff they've already done in SC1 and/or BW have been done elsewhere, too. 10 years ago, I mean. It's like with fetch quests in WoW - they'll never evolve past the point of "it's just another fetch quest".
Storywise I didn't expect anything good, surprise surprise, it's a rape of the lore just like WoW and WC3 were for WarCraft.

I've always found the Raynor/Kerrigan relationship (love interest, anyway) a bit weird seeing as how they didn't really know each other for very long at all prior to her infestation.
Biggest letdown though? The lack of zerg missions. We got some protoss thrown in there, so why not?
for me it was the introduction of a prophecy, like that hasnt been done before, and it doesnt fit the space-future setting of sc well at all. oh and also the introduction of the burning legion, i mean dark voice, that all the races will have to band together to fight. sooooooooo lame!

I believe this is the cause of all letdown in video game history.
My biggest let down was that it was so predictable, almost every character that got introduced you could almost instantly pinpoint how their story was going to play out.
The computer AI on insane. In BW I used to enjoy just simply playing against a computer on melee or several on FFAs. In WOL it's pretty much rush them and win or hold their initial pushes, then win. Also the maps don't have that 'huge' feel to them like The Hunters etc. And the fact that every map is just in the same format - starting location, ramp, natural and gold expansion. Also the lack of capture the flag.
Oh yeah, and the shitiness that is ultralisks and archons being nowhere near as hardcore as their BW counterparts. God I hate the scissor-swiping animation and sound effects of ultralisks. Oh yeah, and the fact that zerglings just look like a stream of diarrhea coming up to hump your units' legs now rather than the massive swarm that rams into you like a rhinoceros horde in BW.

Your description of BW zerglings is incorrect. In BW, it was more like a conga line of lemmings rushing to their death in single file.
Biggest letdown by far are the STUPID FUCKING missions with that girl scientist, shes a dumb fuck, and I hated those missions, also, any missions where there is no buildings that you have, basically all the micro levels are HUGE cop outs on blizzards be-half. You'd think after 10+ years, theyd have a better single player, honestly, they shouldve just scrapped the campaign and made an extra race. The campaign is garbage, and I don't think there are any levels that I actually enjoyed. Oh, and brutal needed to be harder, and also I beat the campaign my old computer, and now it says on my profile that I never even beat it. Retarded.

Seriously, I always enjoyed reading the manuals, the BW manual had a lot of content, same with the Diablo and Warcraft 3 manuals.
I'll admit I was kind of let down with this myself. I know everything is available on the community site, but still, I enjoyed having a tangible print manual, even if for nothing other than bathroom reading lol.
That said, I was let down with the end of the campaign and the portrayal of the villains in general. Also, the fanatic evil protoss felt pretty lame. I mean, I get that every mission couldn't be TvZ (nor would I have wanted it to be) but the whole «lol steal another artifact» followed by «lol we're tal'darim and we're gonna stop you from stealing our artifact!» just felt like it was lacking depth. It's like if they magically appeared, next to no introduction... bleh
Blizzard say they wanted to evolve being talking heads in portrait boxes to deliver their story, but in all honesty, the talking heads did it better... <.<
Actually i agree with you OP, the intro was the biggest letdown for me considering we had already seen it before, was expecting a brand new cinematic.
Nothing else was really a letdown for me, best RTS campaign i have ever played. Even the story diddnt bother me, i never really liked the broodwar arc with SC1 as it was (Though i thought SC vanilla arc was great), after seeing the melodramatic trailers and cutscenes i wasnt expecting much. But i never play games for the story anyway, gameplay over plot IMO.
