I have noticed most comps are 1v1 but there are a few that are team vs team in a 1v1 bracket format, its quite confusing for me to be honest to see a 1v1 based game play in a team bracket manner can someone please que me in on how this works? and if it is some leagues that do this or what?

Repost btw.

I think the reason this wasn't answered the first time is that your question is nearly incomprehensible. Are you asking something about how team-format tournaments work? If so, you might try looking at Liquipedia entries for the tournaments concerned. Otherwise, you might try taking some time to clarify your question a bit.

Basically my questions was regarding the GSTL i guess, i noticed they say its a Team league but the games are still played 1v1. How does it work? Each team has so many players and they just match pairs from each team? in a best of 5 7 9 12 depending on how far they are into the comp? I noticed they spoke of Ace's who would knock out the whole other team and advance, i dont know im confused myself that is why the question might be hard to understand.

Did the behaviour of ctrl-f1 changed?
I remember using ctrl-f1 to select idle scvs, but when I do it in middle game sometimes it selects another stuff, like command centers or other random buildings. Happened to you?

Are you sure you are not hitting control group 1? As long as you have not changed f1 to a location hotkey it should work fine.
You also might be hitting tab while in a macro group.

All team leagues in SC are 1v1 based where each 1v1 goes towards the teams score. In the GSTL they use the All-kill format, meaning the player who wins plays the next player from the opposing team. This leads to the possibility of an all-kill, when one player beats everyone from the other team (5 players in a bo9). An ace is usually there best overall player who they can count on to beat anyone from the other team who they could play as their last player and turn the match around. One of the cool dynamics of these matches is each team choses their next player during the match, so there always a big "who are they going to send out next" moment.

Other formats like the BW proleague have 4 bo1s and a bo3 (The Ace match). Here all the players are set from the beginning. In this case the Ace is just the player they play at the end in case of a 2-2 tie, usually the best player on the team.

Yes I'm positive on pressing ctrl-f1 (I always start the match with it).
I want to use it when I see a few idle scvs to send them back to mine/repair/whatever, but for some reason I get more stuff selected in the middle-late game. Weird.

Simple question - how many Stalkers does it take to kill a Banshee? I just want to work out how many Stalkers I need to leave home when I counter-attack a failed 111 push, 'cause I don't want to lose all my Probes whilst doing so!

Yes. When you invite 5 people into a 2v2 game, someone will be put in the spectator category. Otherwise, you can right-click on someone's name and select "Make Spectator"

What is the normal timing for warp gate to be completed?

but that reasoning is only sound for protoss/terran. What about zerg? Why is it (apparently) better to make a drone first, then mine -> split workers?

I think preparing yourself for a quick sweeping move sending your workers to the minerals as soon as the game loads and then starting your first worker is more efficient than the trendy splitting thing.

What would be the logical reasoning behind that? Other responses have said the goal is to start larva production asap by making the worker first, which imo makes sense.

edit:

6:20 from a 13gate. Assuming you place your core down right after gateway completes which is around 2:50

Subtract 10 seconds for every chrono used.

Sorry, I should've made it clear I wasn't actually referring to Zerg. I don't know what kind of influence splitting may have on larva production efficiency but in the case of Terran and Protoss, splitting does not make a difference. Hence I concluded it was better to learn to send them mining really fast (as in reacting the fastest possible at game start) instead of practicing the cool moves.

As Terran/Protoss, it is more important to start the worker first because you can only make 1 worker at a time.
As Zerg, however, you are only limited by the amount of money that you have in the ultra-early game, so it is more important to mine->split, THEN start your first drone.

If Terran losses their factory, can they still make starports?

I mean, what happens in TvP when terran floats their factory, then loses it?
