Stefan 'MorroW' Andersson finished second in his group at Assembly Winter 2011. Asked after the groupstage he explains differences between Europe and Korea and demands new maps to be implemented.
Speaking of builts in general: Do European builts differ a lot from the Korean or American or are there just small details?
MorroW: It used to be kind of divided, because we didnt have replays of each other and so on but after GSL came along and so forth we could see each others built and so on. So now the playstyles have merged a bit and Europeans have started playing Korean builts, so its not super different now, but I guess the Koreans have more calculated the builts while the Europeans are more personal, they create their own styles a bit more than the koreans.
So Koreans are not that superior at all as it seems to be like they were in Broodwar?
MorroW: No, they are not that dominant, because its hard to get that dominant so fast in a game, because it takes years to become so much better than another part of the world. But Europe is taking Starcraft II very serious, so we have a lot of players practicing very hard, I think Europe can keep up pretty long.
...
What do you think is what Starcraft need to evaluate to the next level?
MorroW: I think the maps mostly, but if you get new maps, then new balance will be needed on them, of course. As a Zerg for example, I spawn close position on Lost Temple for example, its instant loss. And if I spawn cross position then it maybe favors me instead. So many maps are so position dependant. What do You think is what
...
When you look back, as you started playing zerg – was it the right decision to change the race?
MorroW: As far as tournament wins go, I would defenitely have a lot better chances with terran, but I like the switch a lot, it made me a lot happier as a player. And I enjoy practising more and playing for fun. I enjoy playing as zerg more than as terran.

morrow is a cool guy. maps are whats needed, but its challenging developing them. we have the new gsl maps and even our own iccup and motm maps rising up. we just need people/tourneys to start using them. glad hes liking the switch to zerg ^^
|
Yep maps are definetely the problem right now. It's just a question of what's next? gsl maps, new blizz maps or iccup maps?
|
|
Good to see pros are speaking out, but i think blizzard is to stubborn to listen. Their new PTR maps are total abominations.
|
Yea new map please. Actually it would be great if they can use the GSTL maps, I would like to see that.
He switches race even though he wins more as Terran. Respect.

That's the first logical answer I've seen given to that question.
Everyone else whines about a low skillcap or that the talented Korean brood war players refuse to switch over.

The real question is: why is this superiority crap being asked in every single foreigner interview? It's like these guys have inferiority complexes, or are baiting some sort of an answer akin to Demuslim's, and thus starting up another shitstorm. The foreigner scene is much stronger today for SC2 than it was 12 years ago for BW, and even back then, the first to dominate/do well were foreigners like Maynard, Giyom and Legionnaire. It took almost three years for the Koreans to actually rise head and shoulders above everyone else. Not to mention that right now, SC2 is still rather weak in Korea, as most of the talent is still being funneled into BW. I'm actually surprised that Korea is doing as well as it is, given the overall situation.
The "low" skillcap or lack of talent are all pieces of the puzzle, as well as the aforementioned overall SC2 situation in Korea and Morrow's answer. They are all factors, but I think every single person who follows the scene knows that; hence, the question is fucking retarded.

everyone's been saying that new maps are needed. that or zerg need to get buffed. but that is beating a dead horse.

sc2 hasn't taken off in korea, until it takes off they will never be as dominant as they were in broodwar. i believe about 5 million koreans played sc:bw, just look at the numbers of korean accounts on sc2ranks.

blizzard did notice it. they are testing new maps and they said that they will implement new maps more frequently.

you should be happy that morrow isnt like those other whiny zergs out there, even i as a protoss player would love new maps. Many of the current ladder maps are horrible.

You have been banned and warned multiple times and yet you still don't learn, lol.
Great interview. MorroW is one of the strongest foreigners at the moment imo.

On what do you base this on? He knows both perspectives and trained more with Zerg than he ever did with terran. He even enjoys the game more now. Still he has more tourney wins with Terran than any other EU terran (correct me if im wrong but I believe he has tons of 1st place wins since beta with T). He can actually even beat many top players with terran without practice! One of the last TLopens he took off a game in semifinal from a supergood terran with terran after being down 1-2 as zerg. And as Zerg he has been doin good be nowhere as great as his terran play (which didnt require half the efforr he's putting in now)
OT: love how good you became at Z morrow! Keep up the hard work! Or switch back to T and show how you can still perform as u did before :DDD anyway, ur a great player!
