These are my specs. my resolution is 1989x1020. what settings should I be able to run this at?
low at 15 fps. the case is too bad.
Please I am asking because it feels like this game is very gfx intensive
No, you're "asking" because you just built an awesome new computer and want to brag about it. We're impressed, good job.
lol this made me laugh. my comp cost 670 bucks. how is that an awesome computer?
Subtle brag about how thrifty you are >.>
lol ok back to seriousness. even my "AWESOME" computer has trouble maintaining decent FPS during battles and on medium settings. hope this gives some buyers some idea. weird because i can run crysis 2 on max. i guess witcher is much more gfx intense.
Back to seriousness
Have you updated your drivers to the newest beta ones and restarted your computer? I'm only running two 460s in sli and I can run in ultra ezpz lemon squeezy.
For reference to your computer I'm running i5-760, 4GB of cheap ram, 2xGTX460 in sli. The video cards in sli might help me, but I don't think they can beat a 560 Ti, and your processor is certainly better than mine.
Edit: I'm running ultra 1680x1050, can do the same at 1920x1080 but have to turn off ubersampling and ssao. I googled it and I guess 2x460s does edge out a single 560 Ti, I stand corrected. Maybe that's where I'm getting my gains? I would still recommend updating your drivers.

nice! I wish I had SLI. I think that is where you are getting your edge. But it is strange because even at medium settings I get fps drops in battles. The game is just not smooth. Do you know the input to show the fps in game? I sincerely hope Skyrim has better performance on my computer T_T |

| I was thinking of ordering a radeon 6970, i have currently geforce 9800gtx+ and it's pretty laggy in cities and such, only about 15-20 fps with most special graphics turned off. Will there be a noticeable difference, how well do you who have that card run it? |

I use an outside program to measure FPS, didn't even know there was an in game command to show it :S |

9800gtx to hd6970 is a huge leap. ofcourse there will be a noticeable difference.
from what i gathered so far it seems the upper midprice cards (OC 460s, 5850 etc +) run it fine on highish settings. |

I'm maybe an hour after the prologue now, I think I really like it
I don't find the combat itself as bad as many describe it, the only thing that bugs me is that the auto-target stuff seems to be a bit random at times and never really precise. I always find myself attacking enemies at retarded angles instead of the dude right in front of me. |

Ahh this game is so sick. I'm loving it so far. I just finished up most of flotsom. I really don't see what everyone is complaining about with combat. It's hard. That's how it should be. My only complaint is the targeting sometimes gets messed up in a fight and Geralt swings wildly at nothing for a while.
Playing on i7 920, 6gb ddr3, 4890toxic and it runs beautifully. |

A few things i have fallen over that might help people a bit, If you press "J" to go into your journal you can see a section with tutorials their.
Use your potien's and bombs traps and armor enhancers, you gonna be upgrading that equipment your wearing anyway, and a lot of the basic crafting stuff seems pretty easy to make, as in very cheap.
Small tip: Might want to wait with using a mutagen on one of your skills, until you find a greater mutagen. |

This is the only setting I have tried, and it works well.

Anybody know what the monster information does?
I killed like a billion nekkers and something on the right side of the screen said counted from "1/3" to "3/3 monster information" or some similar phrase. I checked in my journal under monsters but there is still no info. |

| Yeah, it's kind of amazing thus far, really nice atmosphere and it's far from the “donate to the orphanage or burn the fucker to the ground” syndrome (as some reviewer put it) Bioware games now have. The moral dilemmas are greyscaled and the world is dark and extremely realistic, maybe even moreso than the first. |

OK, almost through the prologue (sorry I'm slow.) Some have been complaining of the combat and difficulty. It is certainly challenging, and I do find myself needing to roll a bit... but not excessively. A couple tips I came across that might be helpful.
+ Just a quick tip on this -- it doesn't matter if the enemy you face is of the "strong" or "quick" type when it comes to stun-finish moves. Both strong and quick attacks can trigger a finisher.
+ I found it very helpful in multi-enemy engagements to use light attacks to cover ground very quickly. Now this doesn't work if you let all the enemies gather up right next to you, but if you manage them well enough and keep them spread apart at least by a decent amount, you can focus target on one of the further enemies and use quick attack to jump toward them. This is nice in covering ground, but also in dodging incoming blows, and you can usually get at least one hit in on the targeted enemy while doing this.
+ Lastly (for now), light attacks are actually quite effective against "heavy" opponents. It can disrupt their attack and it can let you get at least one swipe in when you would not normally be able to get a heavy attack in.
Hope these tips help. I'll post some more if I come across any. |

Combat's pretty easy, just need to figure out what sign to use against certain enemys.
Of course, if you just charge and press your mouse like a moron you will be overwhelmed in two hits.
Love the game so far. Masterpiece! |

| lol so I was unimpressed by the witcher 2's combat system, I thought it would be like Batman AA but not even close the what Bat was. However, Witcher 2 made me want to try Witcher 1 and see what the fuss was all about...and wow I am glad I did, I love the weapon stances and the timing attacks of the combat system. You guys are all coming from Witcher 1 right? Do you recommend the game? |
