Well, just finished it... what a let down. Nothing is especially resolved, and it just ends abruptly. Boss fights were terribly uninteresting... sigh.

I'll agree theres nothing resolved in the plot much and that its disappointing...and Dethmold was hyped to be a main character...and we know how that goes in the storyline.

But the boss fights felt fine. They were challenging. They werent OMGGODOFWARAWESOME but they were good boss fights still, I felt.

After reading all the praise for this game I went and bought it (special edition for €44.95), even though I'm not that into RPG's. Few hours in (start of A1) and I'm having a great time. The graphics are nothing short of amazing, as is the optimization. I can really see some developers scratching their head thinking "how are we gonna top that?" I can run the game maxed out except for ubersampling at 1080p on my rig (4gigs of ddr3 ram, phenom ii x4 @3.2ghz, radeon HD5870 2gb) and get very good frame rates.

It's also awesome to hear my hometown (Bruges) mentioned in a game set in a fictitious world.

Skyrim is not even the same genre (RPG my ass), and on top of that it'll be even more consolified than the predecessor. The logic of waiting half a year for an undeniably inferior game in every way is not very logical.

and you base that on what? Seriously you have seen nothing of Skyrim but you allready say that it will be bad and The Elder Scrolls is probably more RPG than Witcher is but both are great games

We base that on the crap that was Oblivion (and personally Fallout 3). Same as Dragon Age 3 will not be expected to be good based on the crap that was Dragon Age 2.

They are streamlining the game (seems very popular nowadays) and unmodded Oblivion was utter crap. That said, we can only wait and judge the game only after it is released.

On the other hand, not buying an awesome game only because a different one (and nobody knows how good it will be; might be great, might be terrible) is coming out in *half a year* is just silly and unlogical. Every couple of months a new AAA title makes an appereance and the majority (*not* always, as recent history shows) of the time it will look and play better than the games released before. I wouldn't buy a single title - ever! - if I were to think that way.

I actually didn't mind the ending, knowing that it wasn't going to be anything spectacular. It answered a few questions, but mostly set-up the next game. Would have been nice if the game was longer, though (I really don't care for 'side-quests'. I'd rather a 60 hour main quest than a 25 hour main quest with 15 - 20 hours of running back-and-forth).

Waiting for the patch before I run through insane. There are too many ways to accidentally die to warrant going through (i.e. dialogue putting you in fires). Although it's nice to see the community fixing everything that shouldn't have been broken.

Funny, I thought the ending was very good. Setting up for a sequel, sure, but not in an idiotic cliffhanger way, the main story arc got explained quite thoroughly (if you cared to explore all the dialog options). Also, + Show Spoiler [Ending] +
And though I could probably point out a hundred flaws in it, overall the game was amazing. That sort of game where you can feel that the developers honestly put their hearts into making it.

The great thing is that if the game will sell good enough (and I think it's safe to say at this point in time that it most certainly will) CDPR will be able to afford a much bigger budget (the first installment had a budget of around 27 million PLN, it sold 1,5 million copies, earned 36 million PLN and therefore netted almost 9 million PLN, whereas the second Witcher has a budget of roughly 30 million PLN - but is supposed to earn *a ton* more). The 3rd (and most likely final) part of the series should easily get a 35 million budget (maybe even 40 mil (as of now that's a tad more than 14 million USD), which is a lot for a PC exclusive) once the 2nd Witcher achieves commercial success. Not to mention the money that will come from eventual console ports - and with the next gen coming in the next few years, the 3rd Witcher might get ported, too.

I actually found the DRM-free executable just to verify this, and for me the was no difference whatsoever in performance apart from the shorter start-up time (using an ATi 4850 card).

How is this when compared to the first one guys? Loved the first one, the combat was a little iffy, but it was okay. How about the moralistic choices etc? And does it get as creepy (at times, like the lady zombie in the field in the afternoon) as the first one?

AND, is shani in the game?

Yes, you probably know better than a guy who actually lives there. Brugge (Bruges in English) is a city.

OT: truely amazing game! Only a few hours in but can't wait to play more.

Edit: I see where this went wrong now, it appeared you were commenting on the quote (as I would expect) but in fact you were commenting on the state in the game.

After playing a prologue and few quests of Act 1 in hard settings and learning to control the combat i decided to stop playing and enhance my experience by starting the Insane mode, unfortunatly for me in my first attempt i got killed randomly by the dragon flames so needed to restart the game, my second attempt brought me to the fight with Kaymar and i got killed there. The ambience and story is pretty amazing, and the Insane feeling add even more to that when you walking uneplored areas knowing that you may die, so you take every precaution to not. It feels damn real, im not regret that i wasted more like 10 hours or so and died so i need to start again. This weekend gonna start again, and i think i know my mistakes on my death to Kayman, so this time hopefully, ill pass it and explore newer areas with the same Insane feeling!

Holy shit how do you have that amount of patience? You must be like some sort of mad, patient robot. I got killed about 20 times just at the bit with the ballista near the start and considered uninstalling the game cause I was so frustrated. Hats off to you.

Brugge is the dutch name, Bruges the english one (also in the English translation of the Witcher 2, for some reason). It's Brujas in Spanish and Brügge in German, in case you're interested.

Look it up on Google ;-)

Check out the movie "In Bruges," while you're at it, and if you're in belgium, pay Brugge a visit. You owe it yourself.
