| system rewards streaky wins.. I had to win around 15 straight to get promoted into GM and at that point I was #1 masters in the world.. i've always been the type to win 10+ or lose 10+ .. just posting my personal experience |

Getting promoted to GM has nothing to do with your streaky play. You had incredibly high MMR right when someone lost their spot(probably due to bonus pool). That's all your promotion boils down to, every other division works differently.

All of my promotions were based on this key:
got at the top of my division
stayed there for a while
lost like 4 games
won 1 more again and got promoted
With all due respect, I doubt that streaks are the major reason for promotion, although they might help. |

There have been a lot of bugs recently with the ladder - it seems like they're slapping patches on it so quickly that they're creating new problems each time.... I'd rather them get it right than try to "fix it fast" and create another problem down the line.
Yeah, I want to get promoted as well, but MMR matching still works, and I know where I stand wrt. a promotion.... Here's hoping Blizz takes their time and does a good job patching up the ladder mechanics. |

It seems a hotfix was deployed today, I'll keep an eye this weekend and try to confirm if promotions are back at normal or not, but it seems they are back at normal.

There are really no negative effects associated with going inactive. You don't get demoted from leagues due to inactivity. Your MMR does not decrease. Your points do not decrease.
That part is killing me and my brothers willing to play 2v2. Hes been inactive since mid season 1 and I'm only 1v1 gold. We played a 2v2, lost and got put into Diamond and then was matched up against teams that had Master players. Last season we were mid plat I think.
He's pretty much forgotten how to play and it's not like I can carry us against the Master level players we got put up against. It killed our night just being stomped a bunch. We didn't win a single game  Last edit: 2011-06-20 10:23:34 |

Yeah the major problem with being inactive is you lose your skill, and then when you do want to play you just get stomped to little pieces. I try to play at least one game a day, and that doesn't even have to be on the ladder. It helps a lot to keep you skill up. |

I think the MMR system is pretty stupid. I'm sitting at rank 1 (Bronze LULZ) since a few days with over 150 points ahead of place 2, constantly playing against Silver/Gold and some Platin (rarely) players at i guess a 70/30% rate against Silver/Gold and no sign of getting promoted.
I guess due to sometimes getting owned by some cheese from bronze / low silver players my MMR might be some kind of stuck. |

From OP:
When starting a new team or game type, your MMR from other game types is used as a starting point for your first placement match. After the first placement match, that new team or game type's MMR is separate. This allows players to immediately start playing against players close to their skill level from the very first game.

2 of my last 5 ladder games that i have won i have not received any points for (nor has my opponent lost any) one game was last night and the other just happened
Obviously ladder points arent the end of the world.... but why anit i gettin whats mine? |
