For example, let's say two players are matched together, Player A with 1500 MMR and 0 points and Player B with 1000 MMR and 0 points. Each player would see the other as Favored and would either earn many or lose few points depending on the outcome. If Player A won, because Player A's MMR is larger than Player B's by a fairly large margin, the MMRs of each player would not change very much. If Player B won, B's MMR would rise and A's MMR would fall to a greater extent than if A had won.

I think this part is a typo

It's not a typo. If Player A won, he would gain many points. If Player A lost, he would lose very few points. If Player B won, he would gain many points. If Player B lost, he would lose very few points.

Ahh, thanks a lot for clarifying that. So when I win a game that spends bonus points, my adjusted points won't actually increase? Just the points I see on the ladder? Or do only half of the points that I won go towards my adjusted?

Why would players with such different MMR's both see each other as favored?

Please read the paragraph above the one you quoted. It's not awarding points based on comparing MMR to MMR. It's comparing 1500 to 0 and 1000 to 0.

FYI, everyone: Master league has now been added for arranged and random team play for all brackets.

Hey Excalibur_Z, not sure if this is the place to ask, but I was wondering if you know how the MMR of individuals in a random team change after winning/losing. To clarify, we know that for 1v1 games (and probably the same for arranged teams) the amount of MMR gained or lost after a game is pretty much just based on the relative MMRs of the two sides. In the case of a random team, each teammate has his own MMR. Would all members of a team gain/lose the same amount of MMR? or is it possible that their gain/loss is weighted by their relative MMR going into the match?

Random teams are tricky for that reason. It could either be that everyone on the team gains MMR and points based on the average MMR of the opposing team, or that you gain MMR and points individually based upon the average MMR of the opposing team. It could go even further and award you MMR based upon the highest-ranked opponent, or weigh the skill of your team so that you get more points for having more Bronze partners, it's very hard to say. One way to find out which of the first two it is is to look at how many points you earned or lost in a RT game, then look at how many points each of your partners and each of your opponents earned or lost.

Right, that too. And it's certainly tricky. Plus checking how many points my allies gained/lost requires knowing how many points they had before the match. I'm not sure how that can be done.

I was hoping that Blizzard offered some details on how this process worked. Thanks for your response though.

Oh no, not at all. You can simply go back along their match history. For example, if the map you played on was Megaton in 4v4 Random, you can just find that map in your history, it tells you how many points you earned or lost, you click on one of your teammates, "View Profile", go to their match history, find Megaton, select it, see if it's the same game with the same players, jot down how many points they won or lost from it based on what the Match History page said, and repeat for the rest of the players.

One thing I do not understand about team matchmaking:

How does battle.net evaluate the effectives kill level of a team (between 2 and 4 players per team)? Is it a linear average, geometric, something else? If it is linear then blizzard already has a problem because of snowballing effects and tipping point mechanics which are involved in every game.

If you're an arranged team (queuing together in a party) then it's no different from solo. You have a team MMR and team points and those values rise and fall equally for every player, because you're a single unit. If it's a random team then things get hairy, as c0ldfusion and I were just discussing.

1.3 PTR notes:

Fixed a bug where some Bronze players weren't gaining enough points for wins and were losing too many points for losses.

Finally ^^

Question: If I had a very large bonus pool because I hadn't played in a long time, and I spent it all within a week, do I have to wait until the next week to be considered active and promoted? Perhaps I'm not good enough to get into masters yet but I play alot of masters(maybe like 40% win rate) players and it says Teams Even, yet I haven't been promoted. Just curious of the active status works by week or just straight up bonus pool count.

I think you're active until you're considered inactive, because people can get promoted into Master within a week starting from game 1 (for example this guy http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/profile/2649123/1/Chrono/).

Right, I had seen people like AtheneWins etc get it, so I assumed the bonus pool you EARN is separate from the bonus pool thats handed to you when you first start the game. The answer to my question just might be unknown outside of blizzard but im just wondering if you can switch from inactive to active instantly(by just spending your pts) or if it judges it on a weekly basis, like if you have no pts going into the next week, you are now "active."

Question, If MMR is matched against the others players points and my opponent has 2000 points in diamond and it says teams even does that mean my MMR is around 2000?

pts do not = MMR, a platinum, diamond, and masters can have around the same MMR and get matched up with each other, MMR is more dependent on record so a (record)50-25 platinum can = a 200-188 diamond = 500-500 masters, regardless of what their points are, doesnt tell you what your MMR is.
