Hallo Teamliquid, I made a danish guide for the program xsplit with justintv. Thinking about it, if done in english there could be a larger use for it. So here is my attempt to help, if you want to stream! here is a quick video guide step by step or writen guide if you prefer.
Before we start, I am NO EXPERT I simply wish to help anyone that wants to stream as best I can

""Edit: When pushed Xsplit will use more then the maximum limit you have set on kbps, dont max it out to what your upload can, plan ahead"" I use max bitrate (kbps) 1000, My internet can handle up to 1400""

Video Guide <---

These are my current settings.
SC2 on Medium
Resolution 960x600 ratio 8:5 /my desktop 1680x1050 also 8:5
if the resolution you want isnt in the list "Tool - Settings - put a check on the one you want" and it will show up on the list out infront under "View - Resolutions"
Frame rate 25
Max bitrate (kbps): 1000 but I have set it lower then I can go. xsplit will try and take more if its pressed fx 200 vs 200 army
[image loading]

The sites you need:
http://www.justin.tv
http://www.xsplit.com
You can test your internet connection here if you are in doubt.
http://www.speedtest.net/

Step by Step.
First make an account on justintv, when your account is made you move into the account section http://www.justin.tv/settings?section=account and to the right of your email there is a verify button, you will need to verify your account which is done by pressing that and you recieve an email with a link
[image loading]

Now we download xsplit http://www.xsplit.com/download , you can chose to make an account on xsplit now or later when its installed. (xsplit also needs to be verified), when making an account you get an email with a link.

Before we setup Xsplit, open your Starcraft 2, options - Graphics and select Windowed(Fullscreen) you do this or xsplit wont be able to stream starcraft2
[image loading]

Now setting up xsplit to stream.
first time you open xsplit you will get a login in box, use the account you made on their site, or make a new one, click the remember me, and you wont have to do it again, thats always a lovely feature

Once Xsplit starts up you will get this image below, its a fairly simple program
[image loading]
First open broadcast and press "Edit channels"
Once in there press Add and select justintv
[image loading]

Next is typing your Account on justintv, password and streaming settings, upload and such. I recommend streaming quality 6 and upwards, the picture is with 500kbps and you will get a nice stream with that, if you can do more try adjusting to your desire :D the buffer will follow the upload you have selected. I also upped the audio but thats up to you, and I also turned off auto recording of broadcasts.

In General settings, I turned on Virtual camera but, I am not sure if its needed for this guide to work, feel free to test below is your microphone setting, it found my on its own
[image loading]

Next we do the resolution size for your stream and frame rate, this is done in the main portion of Xsplit, under the option View. I recommend 1280x720 and between 20-30frames
[image loading]

The last part to be done before streaming is adding a screen region in the button left of the program. Press Add select screen region, start from a top corner and drag it to cross buttom. When have boxed your screen a smaller version should appear inside xsplit, drag it out so it filles the xsplit screen, and you are done, you can now stream by pressing broadcast and your stream!
It will say streaming in the top of xsplit
[image loading]
Below is how it will look after you dragged the window out inside xsplit
[image loading]

I cant think of anything else atm, feel free to ask questions and ill try and answer what i can.
Also my spelling and gramma is quite bad, I know, did my best but I hope the overall guide can be used

Edit: Changed my settings for a more smooth stream, the changes are listed in top of the topic My settings, in bold
Hope the changes can help.

You gotta remember, its not just about the net for your stream, you also gotta have decent specs for encoding 720p+ while gaming on the PC and not using a capture card from a console.

A good general idea is that for some reason, JTV users would prefer to have higher quality than FPS. If you want to go with this cliche, then go ahead and deal with the lower FPS and higher standings.

If you don't have lets say an i-7, high end graphics card, and atleast 4 gigs of 1600 ddr3 ram, your very unlikely to get higher than 30 fps stream to your viewers. But as I said, this is the JTV community, who prefers quality over fps.

sounds good, but how would you tweak these settings if you only had a max upload speed of around 370 kbps?

Most do what we can, but as I said, its the JTV community, if you stream at 1080p and have 5 fps, they prefer that over 480p with 60 fps.

Your sample is of 500 kbps? My upload speed is 1Mbps - 1.2mbps. How much does SC2 need? Can I use the same kbps as you? That quality looks perfect! (My computer can handle this easily, it's just my crappy internet provider having a monopoly where I live.)

Higher the quality higher the bitrate, so if you want to stream super clear, then higher bitrate is better

So does quality setting work as a multiplier or something? He has it set to stream at 500kbps then also sets the quality. What overall kbps is he streaming at? I just want quality similar to his with my 1 mbps upload. Is that possible?

quality i think just deals with pixelation, I don't think its a multiplier, but 4-6 should be good enough for average streams, Havn't tried anything higher than 6. Just try out different settings, but make sure to have the auto record feature on so you can look at your vods and see the difference in quality. Thats what I did to finally get a decent picture.

This method works great and quality is amazing, here is example of me using 1 mb setting
http://www.justin.tv/goodseed/b/280201471

But what does the buffer size do? does it have to be the same as max bitrate?

Edit: if you do watch the example of 1mb setting, skip to minute 43, its the best part.

Regarding how much starcraft2 uses, my max upload / cap and buffer.
Well i buy a 10/3 connection but i get between 1.2 - 1.4upload from my provider (Speedtest) , so normally i stream with the cap of 1000, audio 100 and then the idea of the streaming maybe using abit more from time to time "100 safe zone" and 100 for sc2, so in total 1.4 where my upload normally is maxed out.
So to be clear this is my math
1000 stream
100 audio(you may only need 50kbps on standard)
100 Starcraft2
100 save zone
This is what works for me so i dont get delay from my connection, remember you can max out your computer and get lags from that if your not close to maxing your connection but your pc is laggin or the stream, try lowering starcraft2 settings
What we want is a SMOOTH stream that looks GOOD

I dont think starcraft2 uses 100, but try maybe 50 see if its lags, then up it with 25
How large does the buffer size need to be, tbh i would recommend letting xsplit control that unless your very experienced in the science of streaming. It will adjust on its own when you turn your stream up and down, its job is simply to be the "buffer" between your upload and the stream, and the size of that xsplit seems to control very well, i have not had any problems there.

myspecs:
i7
gtx470
4g ddr3
30/20 internet connection.

anyone know what the problem might be, i used to be able to stream without even noticing anything on my pc performance.

Do any of you know if it's possible to use another PC in lan to stream?
For example I play on one which sends with a recording software everything to another that encodes to xsplit.

I have a question... how do you know how to select the screen region? I'm confused about this point!

start in the top left corner and drag it over your screen, basically like boxing over something in sc2. you have to hold your mouse button in!

I didn't drag anything to add screen region, I just went to desktop and click any spot with the red point and it automatically set my things .
