How are you guys...

So today is a beautiful morning ladies and gentleman I que up a game, wait 3 minutes since nobody is on and I meet a hacker which just lags the game to the point where I get dropped by showing his status "Slowing down the game" all over my screen, couldn't even move my mouse.
Here is the screenshot, for everybody's information

Please don't post things like "His computer was bad" if you're playing Starcraft 2 on Amiga then I might believe.
"I'm 3900 Masters"

MOD EDIT: Added in the screenshot. We have an "Upload Image" link FYI.

I would probably post here http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=151244 instead of making an entire new thread. Without a replay or anything, it's impossible to say he was hacking, though. Do you have a replay or a link to his profile? If he's like 100-0 then I'd say you're right, but as it is now there's not really any proof of that being a hack ~_~

Report the player, and upload it on a good host and as .jpg next time, he will get what is coming to him.

Edit: If he is actually cheating that is.

I stayed in the game for 3 minutes, it just doesn't happen I'm 3900 masters Terran (top Usa)
It's not bronze where people can't win few games, and it started immediately after I joined his game, and it was spamming from top to bottom for 3 minutes I've been in game. I opened up fraps minimized and made screen shots. So don't post dumb stuff in here, that he just lagged out, or something like that. It's obviously not the case, if he lags like this every game he wouldn't be top Usa. And to the conversion part, here it is

I will report him in-game but for some reason, when games are short or a player doesn't leave the game, it doesn't show in match history until later on so currently I can't report him in-game or anything like that.

You can't just make a total assumption about someone hacking and then tell everyone they are posting dumb stuff.
If you're mad that someone else is brazenly trumpeting their beliefs with ignorance, perhaps you should be mad that you are doing it too.

I'm just using logic, some people don't seem to do the same. And he was random race (not like it has to do with anything) but how many times does it have to say "XXXX Is slowing down the game, before hes gonna get dropped ? And the countdown should probably start if it was his computer, and the only person that dropped is me, I had massively lag that I couldn't even type out a word, or make an scv.

Was that so hard? I requested this info in the first reply of this thread. If you didn't beat around the bush so much then half of the comments here would never have been made

Best thing you can do in this case is to use the link I gave you earlier and post what you said here, as well as the link to his profile (leaving that out will just get you more comments like in this thread).

Then, you should either report him on B.Net, or use https://us.blizzard.com/support/webform.xml?locale=en_US to send a ticket if you can't access your match history for this game.

People in here bashing the OP for assumptions either didn't read the entire original post, didn't look at the screenshot or simply don't know what a hack is capable of.
The OP is not saying "OMG MAPHACK HE SCOUTED MY CHEESE". This is clearly some sort of abuse.

Unfortunately we can't do anything about this, the OP has to report him and all the other 32 people he abused.

Maybe because there is no way to provide a link, except get on google or sc2ranks and start searching >_< if you were so fanatic about it, you could have done the same just by looking at his name in screenshot. And yes I will report him, but I got a loss in-game and it does not say I even played a match vs him.

I did search for him on sc2ranks, actually. Nothing came up using the Profile Finder. I'm assuming you were able to find him using his identifier, which I did not have access to.

On a side note, there needs to be an official Blizzard database for matches. I know there is one, but you can only access it by clicking someone's profile on the forums. To my knowledge there's no way to search for a player.

Okay, now how would I be able to use his identifier? When I can't even check that I played him in game, and I did same thing but you did, I went on sc2ranks and I used search function by putting his full name ^.^ And yeah I agree, there should be that option.

Oh Blizzard, really? No rate limiting on a client to client message that interrupts gameplay, wastes CPU and memory and fills the screen? I hate to be hating on Blizzard this but bugs like this are very amateurish at this level of game design.

R1CH drops in with the knowledge... I'm a complete beginner in actual design (been coding for a long time by myself and ust started a formal degree at a good uni) but isn't this a really really easy abuse to control? Like as you said a very simple rate limiter?

I can vouch that it was a drop hack it happened to me yesterday too!

The game started then lagged to the point of barely even being able to highlight a unit to move. Then after about two minutes of that the drop menu popped up and i dropped

I was able to check his record history after the game and it was something along the lines of 23-0

The message itself doesn't actually interrupt gameplay, unless you mean it's similar to a DOS attack?

wow thats pretty crazy. I did not expect someone to be this blatant with hacking I mean one loss, playing everize and is in master league with under 40 games played because he is winning at such a high rate. Thats crazy. I was about to say that it was probably not a hacker then I saw the WLR, and who the OP was and I thought.. wow thats madness.

EDIT: The above alongside the screen shot and game durations I should be clear to make people skimming this post not think only WLR has to do with hacking. Apologies for any confusion

It's entirely possible to get that ratio legitimately. There are quite a few smurf accounts that have 30-0 and beyond records, including some that I've studied, and those wins were earned through legitimate means. The proof of hacking here is the spam of messages in the screenshot combined with the abnormally short game durations in his match history which results in the high amount of wins.

Suddenly, I'm more interested in seeing a Wizard battle than in seeing Blizzard bring the accused to justice.

I'm not sure why you'd prefer to use a file hosting site with download limits to host a JPG, but imgur takes mere seconds to upload something (no registration required) and has no such limits. I recommend it!

I should have been more articulate with my expression of a high WLR as well as the duration of the games which i took for granted.

I failed to think about smurf accounts as well which is probably why I overlooked the additional information in my post.

hope I didn;t confuse anyone

Blatant hack. There are actually recently quite a few posts on battle.net reporting the same thing at different levels, its definitely not just you.

Blizz is definitely aware of it.

EDIT: you'd think they'd have been aware of it during wc3 though? wow.

People have been promoted without losing, it's not unheard of. Furthermore it seems like in the past few months the promotion system has been revised and it doesn't hold players until they skip leagues anymore. We still have a small sample size because it's not common that players will go undefeated for so long.

Let's stay on topic though.

DO NOT DOWNLOAD THE FILE!,,when I clicked the link that OP posted my McAfee went bananas.

On topic: This drop sounds identical to one of the early drop hacks in WC3, where the game would get more and more laggy to the point where you eventually would get dropped. Only way to win was by killing the opponent before that happened.
However it didnt take long for an anti drop hack hack to arrive which cancelled the original hack. Ofc it would be much better if Blizzard would just insta-perma-ban these fuckers right away.

People have been promoted without losing, it's not unheard of. Furthermore it seems like in the past few months the promotion system has been revised and it doesn't hold players until they skip leagues anymore. We still have a small sample size because it's not common that players will go undefeated for so long.

Let's stay on topic though.

Now that people have refreshed my memories, this is indeed like a DOS attack hack. TLO dropped out against the exact same guy on his stream not long ago.

Also this kind of hack was rampant in wc3, thought blizz would've known by now

From a theoretical prospective, this is a pretty caveman style hack. Considering the power of run time code injection, it should theoretically be possible for an attacker to get your computer to execute arbitrary code through the built in time sync protocol.

The file is fine. Popular AntiVirus programs are often prone to false alarms. If you don't trust the original download, I reposted the image on imgur a little bit ago.

Where are you seeing a link to any hack? The download in the OP is just a picture uploaded to a file hosting site.

There's a forum post up on one of the biggest sc2 hacking communities today with a pretty known guy talking about how he went crazy with drophacks yesterday on all the ladders. They are guest accounts so it doesn't really matter whether you report him or not.

Luckily, the guy isn't going to release it publicly.

He talks a lot about the method so someone might have replicated it. It's a simple method so meh, I'm fine with people using it against me, getting perm'd and then the method gets patched and it's over with.

edit: assuming blizzard hasn't gone full retard that is, but on the other hand you probably can't expect much when the exact same public maphack remains safe from warden from week 2 of the beta up until now.

And what exactly leads you to that conclusion? Why do we have to "consider the power of run time code injection" ? What you describe would be a horrible security flaw, but I see no reason why it should be possible. I'd wager that all that is happening here is the hack sending lots and lots of fake slowdown messages so your game client craps out. If you have any in depth information on the game's protocols to contradict that, please share it with us.

Well as you can see it doesn't seem to be just a easy-mode hack, probably has to do something with time synchronization, which then would lead to "X is slowing down the game". The interesting thing is how he manages to get more than one "X is slowing down the game" message, as it only should appear once(?).
Also I'm not entirely sure if the OP meant drop because of frame rate slowdown, or because battlenet dropped the client.

It is a hack. In the thread about iGware in these forums, someone posted a link to a hacking site. In the SC2 forum, someone made a thread of a drop hack he was using and posted pictures, etc. I don't know if I'm allowed to post it here, but just giving a heads up. Most people who do this use trial accounts, so banning these accounts won't really do much.

IP ban wont do anything, you can merely shut off all your pc's and restart your modem, or request a new dns. Besides why would blizzard do that? If he's got multiple accounts he can buy more, and will, and thats all income. It takes 1minute to change your IP.

What's the point of this? There is nothing to be gained from winning a bunch of SC2 games, and even if it's some misguided attempt at inflating the ol' e-peen, now everyone knows he's a hacker...

*sigh*

I hope Blizzard can somehow keep SC2 free of all this shit.

Edit: So for my own curiosity I did a search to find out how common these sorts of exploits are, and stumbled upon the hacker from the OP's post where he releases his hack publicly.

Apparently there are entire communities of gamers who just hack games and lol...

Making it a protected function would be a better solution than rate limiting in an rts. Though the hackers would just try to edit it but how I'd protect it would just make that pointless.

The message itself doesn't actually interrupt gameplay, unless you mean it's similar to a DOS attack?

It can cause a memory leak/video card overheat when spammed like that, which for some laptop gamers (i.e. me) can crash the game or worse (Blue screened once T.T).

Also, it interrupts gameplay when it's spammed like that. I'm confused why Blizzard would even let those warnings stack up on each other instead of just seeing one window at a time. Oh, right, bnet 0.2.

Hopefully blizz doesn't take more than a week to fix this. It seems more like a lagswitch kind of deal as opposed to a hack that modifies the interface memory.

Blizzard always bans hackers in waves, so the majority of those cheaters usually get to play for a few more months even if they are detected. However, from what I've seen, when one of those guys get caught and his name widely publicized either on here or on the official forums, Blizzard is forced to take an immediate action and he does get banned shortly. So, as long as there are pretty clear evidences, I think it helps the community to publicize and flame cheaters in this manner.

Far worse. They are using guest passes. Well, if they are smart enough.

It's not a link to the hack, read the thread, he is only using the hack for personal uses and is not planning on releasing it.

http://www.d3scene.com/forum/starcraft-2-hacks/50573-drophack-fun.html

*Link re-edited in.

Thanks for posting that link. I read it and think the hacker is a huge idiot who thinks he's funny for ruining other people's fun. He also appears to have a great kick out of people posting on the forums "because they are so serious about their accounts". Since it's a guest account, he feels that there will be no consequences.

Well, I sincerely hope that Blizzard will pursue the matter outside of the game (i.e. take legal action). Doing a DOS attack is against the law so hopefully there will be some avenue to it. This will discourage idiots like this in the future. And I'm pretty sure that Blizzard can track the person down if they want to.

Ugh how annoying with the possibility of hardware damage. This clown is probably on a guest account having fun hacking his way up to masters shouldn't allow guest accounts past platinum to begin with and we wouldn't see this kind of basement dweller.

It's sad that there are people out there who are so bored with the game that they have to resort to hacking to enjoy themselves.

Trolls like these don't seem like people who really have much going for them in their lives at all though, so you can only hate them so much.

This. I know that Blizz likes to ban in waves, but someone hacking his way to rank 1 GM should be dealt with within hours, not months.

It wasn't locked, if you get too many bonus points you drop out. So either he got in that way (his MMR would be insane, so he'd be first in line probably), or he was always in.

On the general topic of hackers.. what I don't understand is

Why?

I mean, I know you can go home to you friends and say you're #1 in grandmasters, but other than that', what is the point? You get a bad reputation, no one will respect you again if they figure out your real life information. Maybe props in the hacker community?

I mean, you can't get sponsors, there's generally no way to advance in life or anything by doing this. At least bronze level players who actually play the game can say that they tried and learned something, or just had fun in general.

Just a thought.

If he is in a game it's only going to last 3 seconds so you may queue up as a GM, wait time might be 2 minutes and he will be done with his game and then he queues and you get each other. As long as he is on, GMs are not safe

So just don't play when he is on.... Considering he only has like 60 games and the average game is only a few seconds, he doesn't play much.

Guys, Blizzard, in Diablo2, allowed Bots to flood their servers, and kept banning gamers that used a maphack (less problematic than a bot obviously). I never expected sc2 to be hack-free, but they failed long ago, and surely will keep failing at this :D.

He did it in a span of 4 to 5 hrs.....that's a decent amount of games. To many players it's not worth the risk and aggrevation. I would only assume that blizzard wipes all the games when they ban him or else it makes even more sense to not play until he is gone. I know Select is just doing EU last night because he got the hacker several times.

They likely want him to cheat a little bit to have a better idea of what he is exploiting. Being able to drop random players in seconds is a pretty serious attack.

This could be far worse. Pillage is 69-0, but he could have conceivably been doing this for hours and hours and stolen more ladder points from top players. As it stands, though, it almost seems like he's just trying to subtly let Blizzard know there's a problem that needs addressing. I haven't personally hit him on the ladder so I don't know if he talks or anything, but so far...

I think he's just making a point. If he released this to the public, we'd have a huge issue. Blizzard should figure this out soon.

This actually makes a ton of sense. 41-1 in season 1 and he wasn't caught. He could've potentially done a crapton more damage knowing that he wasn't banned between then and now.

Sorry, but I can't find a notorious hacker openly cheating his way into the top spot of the NA ladder anything but hilarious, albeit in a sort of depressing way. I wish he also used a bot to auto-queue 24h a day, therefore completely stopping GM players from laddering. I wonder how much time it would take for Blizzard to take action then.

I looked up his profile on Sc2 ranks and he has a 3v3 replay up and it only lasted 30 seconds or so. If you look at the average APM of him (with the name of Slybone) it is:

Average APM: 676469

Definitely hacks, if that hasn't been made clear already. How can someone jump that high on Grandmasters so quickly without it being spotted ASAP? I would think Blizzard has some sort of spotter for abuse of this caliber.

A mate of mine just ran into the first hacker I have seen on ladder.

A guy named ChuckNorris uses d/c hack to give opponents error and game crash within 5 seconds of the game. He is 25-0 on EU with Random and all his games are less than 10sec (checked through match history). A mate got matched up against him twice just now and he gave him error twice.

This is going on on EU aswell now. Some dude named ChuckNorris wins every few minutes and I lost to him while crashing at loading screen.

same guy

Edit:
Since I wrote this he made another 10 wins and is now 35-0, all of them wins in less than 5sec (making his opponent crash within 5sec).

I wonder how long it will take for blizzard to ban him, we all reported him.

I played that guy a couple months ago in the finals of the Clan OD #9 tourney o.o. I wonder if it's the same guy... maybe someone else since I suppose the name is pretty popular.

I haven't personally hit him on the ladder so I don't know if he talks or anything, but so far...

I think he's just making a point. If he released this to the public, we'd have a huge issue. Blizzard should figure this out soon.

so the APM leads me to believe he is maxing out the game? could they just change the game so that inputs at greater than 2500 APM are not accepted? or whatever insane maxes out at?

I think it's like a denial of service attack from the hacker in game based on the amount of APM and there is probably some small loophole that is created during that that makes the opponent drop

I'm not sure but I'm guessing whatever he does, the APM aspect in the patch kept whatever program he made from being able to abuse certain actions. Which makes sense because Phillage hasn't been on since last night I believe and NA got patched this am whereas chuck Norris suddenly appears and EU isn't patched.

Yet another big issue with everything going through Blizzard's service: Players cannot play on a server with a reasonably enforced hacking policy. It's a problem for SC2's popularity when the top streamers find laddering to be a waste of time.

There should be fire alarms going off at Blizzard's SC2 department right now.

It sucks so much to not even hear a response from Blizzard. It is crazy how quickly you can get direct assistance from a blizzard employee with WoW issues, but a huge issue like this in SC2 and they can't even acknowledge it or do anything... crazy.

This is making less confident that D3 will be hack-free.

When he wrote DDOS I knew exactly what he was referring to.

If he said it was a DOS attack I would have thought it was something very, very different (though fairly commical).

First of all he's a clearly abusing ladder system not that it matters. Secondly he's hacking... Anyone who hacks is CHEATING. No matter the cause. Sure he might be fixing some bugs in the game and giving blizzard new information on new hacks (if this is even true) he still hacks on the side. For fun or for competitive play doesn't really matter... He's a hacker and a hacker is a cheater." Get a life scrub.

Well if he created the hack, it could be his passive aggressive way of letting blizzard's developers what he thinks about their skill.

I really would like to hear from Blizzard why they need so much time to ban a clearly a 100% hacker. You can't have more evidences then this and I guess there are like tons of reports for his hacking accounts. He is seriously ruining games for bunch of GM players on two different servers.

If he got banned 1 day after this hacking it still would've been slow response, but this is just... unacceptable and stupid.

I am always amazed how Blizzard manages to show with "little things" how they kinda don't care (by care I mean honest and helpful care) for people who made them all rich.

P.S.
As I understand this guy didn't release this hack publicly so I wouldn't be surprised that he thinks (by some weird logic) he is helping Blizzard.

And at the end of the day he kinda really does, showing them serious vulnerabilities they will patch. I bet there are tons of other smart and skillful people out there who can make this same hack at any moment and release it publicly - imagine ladder when every trollkid has this hack? Not cool. But if he keeps doing this every day Blizzard won't have choice, they will invest time and resources to fix that exploit.

I am not into programming and stuff but maybe he is not banned yet because Blizzard needs more info from his ladder hacking to understand and find fix for it.

Yeah it could be that Blizzard doesn't care about banning hackers...

OR

They want to collect as many accounts and as much information about hacks before they do a massive sweep (which has always been how they ban hackers). Banning this guy and this guy alone will probably A) Cause him to get another account and B) Release his hack to the masses making it 10x harder to control.

If they can figure out a way to preemptively shut it down while collecting a bunch of accounts that are guilty of maphacking/drophacking/whatever, they can blow through and purge the servers in one big burst and force most of the hackers to start from scratch.

Ever since maphack in D2 Blizzard has made giant purges once or twice a year instead of banning hackers as they come up. You can trust that they have their own software as well as the hack report email people use to keep track of offenders.

On an aside, I really hope Blizzard adopts the stance where hacking will cause them to purge your account of all games (i.e. BW/WC3/WoW etc.).

Indeed.

I rly want to believe there is legit reason why this guy (and other hackers) aint yet banned. I am kinda scared to start thinking about how Blizzard doesn't care at all after I gave em bunch of money over the years for their games and subscriptions. :-)

What would that do? Nothing forces you to put all your games on one account. I didn't connect my SC2 account to my WoW account just on the off chance I somehow got my account stolen I wouldn't lose access to both games.

Coming from a WC3 background I'm pretty sure they don't really care about banning hackers.

Depending on the nature of the crash.... there might be something wrong with your client, not necessarily a hack (in fact I would lean towards re-installing client if it happened 4 times in a row).

I really would like to hear from Blizzard why they need so much time to ban a clearly a 100% hacker. You can't have more evidences then this and I guess there are like tons of reports for his hacking accounts. He is seriously ruining games for bunch of GM players on two different servers.

Anyone that still thinks blizzard cares should know that blizzard have only been handing out bans that last for the extent of the current ladder season. I.e. those "permanent bans" they have been talking about were lifted when season 2 started, and currently banned maphackers will presumably have their accounts back for the third season.

They are extremely lenient, and it's not like they've done a good job with keeping warden up to date either.

This is pretty pathetic, and quite frankly it's infuriating that this is the company we're all dedicated to. Pillage isn't a new cheater that will get swept up in the next ban wave. He's an old cheater who wasn't caught in the last ban wave and right now he's dominating the GM ladders.

The fact that Blizzard allowed this guy to get away without a permanent ban makes the GM league a joke, there are probably people who hack every now and then as well. It matters because getting a high ranking here is suppose to mean something for real offline tournaments in the near future I am sure.

There is a tradeoff to banning the hacks immediately. If you wait a little bit, then it basically builds confidence among hacker community that the hack is safe, and blizzard can catch more people who use the hacks when they finally pull the trigger.

Yes but until then he causes permanent damage to the ladder by

1) Lowering the trust we put in the system
2) Causing losses to random people in the GM and high masters, therefore messing with the point system.

That reasoning doesn't work for cases like this. You don't need a warden to see that this guy is using a drop hack. Numerous reports on the same guy about dropping people. Evidences caught on stream. He has an impossible record with all his games being shorter than 2-3 minutes. He has like a million APM according to the replays. It's so blatantly obvious to anyone's eyes. If this guy is banned, the hackers aren't going to think "oh, my drophack must have been detected".

To make it worse, he's pulled this same BS 2 months ago with many people reporting him and threads about it being made in TL and the official bnet forums. He is still here, this time actually reaching GM #1.

I'll copy-paste from one of the links here, since the guy on the Blizzard forums pointed out how silly these wave-bans are.

"3. The ban wave system doesn't work as well for SC2 as it does for WoW. Players have less time and money invested into their accounts than they do in WoW. While the idea is that you can make a big statement and actually catch more people, you're not actually preventing people from cheating. A ban wave comes out every 4 months and SC2 sells for $50 or less right now. That means if you want to continually cheat in SC2, it costs you less per month than a WoW subscription." -- Jujube.

While we're all quick to get angry at blizzard etc, I'm pretty sure these accounts have been closed but the records are not erased or anything. Someone on my university's CSL team made the top 200 list (before GM league existed) and was banned for either win farming or maphacking (I don't really know the story) but he was banned and could not access his account but his battle.net profile still showed his same record and it was available for search on sc2ranks, so unless people are still actively running into these drop hackers on ladder I think we can stop bumping that blizzard thread and such and getting angry at blizzard. I'm sure the account itself will be removed from GM league soon enough.

When the expansions are there, it actually is gonna cost them a bit more. That is, if they start to actually ban people and not suspend them just for the current season (that's what I heard they are actually doing... and yes that sounds like the most stupid joke ever, but apparently it's true).

This kind of stuff makes me feel bad for all of those involved. The hacker should be pitied, because he cheats in a pretty competitive setting, and the victims obviously should be pitied because of the lack of competition when facing a cheater.

Think about it.

I dont think you will have to buy all 3 expansions just to play on one of their ladders so it wont cost them more. I think blizz should just put some effort into figuring out these hacks and ban the ones making it high enough to get notice. Anyone 60-0 should be checked then banned simple as that.

Hackers are impossible to stop in a computer game. For every hacker they banned , two more will pop out.. like daisies! (i love mulan ^^) . Every time a new patch hits , they'll always find a counter to it. It's one of these things that we have to put up with.

That's fine, but it's still easily possible to severely limit the hackers. Think of the TL ban list for an analogy

I honestly hope the GM ladder gets filled with hackers. The sooner blizzard realized battle net 2.0 is a complete failure the better for the community.

Blizzard simply has bad programmers. Remember the custom
games fiasco where the "hours played" would loop to zero after reaching 19 hours played due to int overflow? This was a novice mistake, an overlook committed to save memory (don't get me wrong, I appreciate memory use reduction, especially when sc2 has so many memory leaks). Or remember where the ability to warp in immortals was merely dummies out by removing the button, but the mechanism was still there and thus exploited?

Bliz hires great programmers, that's for sure.

Pay a shit ton for what? A trial account you can ask for in a seperate thread people will give you if you ask. That's all the hackers use. Maybe if limitation were put on them so you couldn't climb to gm on one it would be more of a deterrent to this problem than hoping they were stupid and actually bought the game. Blizzard knows this since launch and no restriction yet.

Did I get dropped hacked?

The weird thing is it didn't say they were slowing down the game, it slowed down my SC2 to the point that it was completely unplayable, less than one frame a second. While it was happening I could quickly and easily alt-tab out to browse the web or whatever, so my computer itself wasn't bogged down, just SC2. Then after a few minutes of being completely unplayable, I was dropped from the game. As soon as I got back to the menu the game was running smooth as normal and it hasn't done that since.

Has anyone encountered this?

had the same issues some weeks ago... i started a threat but nobody was believing me back than...
the threat was closed, and some of the forum users here just hatet against me... funny to see... if a master league guy has a problem everyones believing him... if a silver league guy asks that question nobody believes him... sad to see...
on my case i talked to my opponent so long that maybe after 10 minutes he stopped the hack and wanted to attack me... fortunatly i had my bunkers up and won the game after that...

you would need to ban his mac adress, as it identifies his network controler and probably also his mainboard.

a) mac addresses are easy to fake
b) mac addresses don't leave your segment, that is blizzard or any other guy on the internet cannot see your mac address unless they break into your lan.

mac addresses are easily spoofable. In fact changing my routers mac address is what allows me to change my IP address. anyways there are plenty of ways around IP/hardware bans. it would be a lot simpler to just ban his account.

Agreed. Banning his accounts means he has to keep paying for the game if he wants to continue to hack.

Yea. It happened to me in a 3v3 yesterday. Funny thing was, my friend and I just disregarded it, claiming "Blizzard's servers are currently sucking" and played more custom matches.

Hmmmm..... I've gotta check that replay.

Kinda ridiculous Blizzard hasn't taken any action over this yet. You'd think they would jump all over this the second he showed up in GM. The only possibility I can think of why they wouldn't is that they're still trying to figure out how he's doing it.

I'd say first ban him, then check out what he did using server logs. No need to keep him active, unless they don't have enough information to prevent this in the future and are following his moves whenever he logs on :x

Why can't Blizzard be as fast as Team Liquid? What I think is funny is this guy was doing it in Season 1 and still has his account to do it in Season 2.

I mean, I understand the concept of letting people think it's safe to use hacks and then getting a lot of them at once, but jeeze. Eventually you have to do something.

Yeah so I went back and watched the replay, it's really strange because the replay makes my game slow down the same way as when it happened on ladder!

It came to a complete crawl where the UI would hardly respond and I had to quit out. Either it is some very obscure bug with the game or that guy was using some kind of hack or exploit. I am going to send the replay to Blizzard and hopefully that guy will get banned if needed. Sadly, if you do some poking around hacker forums you will find that they are quite common and easy, and they seem to have a good idea of how to now get caught.

What surprises me in this is the reaction of the moderator on the linked thread before (this one). He says Blizzard cannot delete this account, because they are limited by their own programs.
How the hell could they have been so arrogant to think they didn't needed any solution "in case of" ? Did they seriously think their system was unbreakable by any means ?

this guy is definitely suspicious
he doesnt have that many games played, and has a nearly perfect record (last time i checked, he did)
i saw him get matched up with select on his stream. this guy pillage has the funniest match history
its all wins and games all within a couple of minutes of each other.
I have no idea what he's doing but hes already at the top of the ladder, it kinda messes up the ladder points for the players in grandmasters that play a lot.

Uhh ... no. Unless the game runs on a blizzard host and sends only data, that the player needs, you cannot prevent maphacks.

No? You don't need to run the "game", but only a very simple and resource cheap algorithm just to check vision. And it doesn't even need to be on a "blizzard server". Ex.: on tourneys like TSL a third party trusted judge with low latency could do that.

Technologically, map hacks are trivial to solve. And drop hacks are just... stupid to even talk about. It's just flat poor coding that causes it to exist. Any hack is an exploit of a security flaw. Any hack can be fixed with changing your code and/or design architecture.

Agreed. Do we have any confirmation that any correctional coding has been planned or implemented yet? Or are we still at the mercy of Blizz to do something when, and if, they want?

Confirmation will come from some <random> ~wave~ of bans...

Whatever. I can't wait for this sort of shenanigans to stop.

This hack is possible even with blizzard hosting the games. It's a pretty big glaring hole in their implementation for this to be possible by one of the clients. They've had this type of hack since Beta.

Here's my speculation as to how the hack worked, and why it should no longer work (i.e. safe to ladder):
There have been reports of very high APM from the hacker. Presumably he uses a macro which spams many action without delay between them (can be done easily with only a macro program). Too many actions cause problems with the connection (they all have to be transferred), and forces opponent to drop.
However, last patch had the "no artificially increased APM" fix. None of these hackers had any games played after the patch, so I think that this means the hack is nullified.
My guess is, since the issue was patched so closely to the hack, is that the issue was found out by a QA tester, and somehow leaked to the hacker. The hacker knew that this issue would be patched quickly, so he had a small window to take advantage of it.
Think about it, why else would that fix be included in the patch? Doesn't seem like Blizz wanted to stop people from APM spamming to 400 and showing off their e-peen...

AmX on the EU server just hacked against me using this drop hack. He's currently 48-7 and an extremely bad player.

Hell, I'll upload the replay. I play embarrassingly badly (proxy gate and then lose my probe) and still pull out a win (he pulls all of his SCVs and randomly attacks me and I easily hold, go to counter attack), until he drop hacks. The replay file even stutters where he hacks. It's so weird.
