The only reason Nolan's movies have been "successful" is because they are about a character everyone knows and loves. Plus Heath Ledger died before one of the movies. If these garbage scripts, direction, editing and music had been applied to any other other character based franchise, no one would watch this shit.
Okay, I get it, people "wear masks" and don't show society who we "really" are DUUAALLLIITTTYYY HUURRGGGH. Vigilantes are no more sanctioned by the law than criminals. Why don't they go find some essays from another group of 13 year old English students to get their 'dark themes' from.
The lighting is too dark. Can't see what's going on.
The voices are too poorly recorded/altered/muttered. Can't hear 20% of what people say.
All the extras look like fucking British hardmen, and/or overact their parts.
Chosing boring villains. The one interesting villain (Joker) was completely ass fucked. Why turn one of the most vibrant, colourful characters in the history of comic books into a generic PSYCHO ANARCHIST. WHOAH HE DOESNT GIVE A SHIITIITTIIIT!!!!! Give me a joker who does shit like poison all the fish in Gotham so they grow Joker faces, and then demand a patent for all the fish that share his unique face. No no no, instead we get...Ra's Ah Ghul, Harvey Dent (and he wasn't twoface, has was Harvey Dent who got disfigured. He did nothing, at all (oh except that time he was in a brutal car crash with no apparent negative effects), Catwoman, Bane....what a snooze fest.
What I would like to see is get out of this damn '2-villain' only format. If Bane, Killer Croc, Penguin or Deadshot is in the movie, they don't have to be the main antagonist. Have a group of villains, one or two ringleaders, and a cast of lesser villains who may be helping or hindering the ringleaders, or just doing there own shit and Batman comes across one while he's trying to deal with the others (e.g. Killer Croc is just randomly fucking around in a sewer and Batman comes across him by chance and has to fight him to continue his objective).
Perhaps the villains could be fighting each other for some reason, and Batman has to control the chaos and end it somehow. Contrary to what Nolan might believe, the movies don't have to center around one or two villains blowing up parts of the city.

I don't agree with 99% of what you say. Nolan is an amazing director, just watch Momento. I will agree with comic books being much better than the movies (Arkham Asylum is my Favorite).

I can't believe you put boring villain and The Joker from The Dark Knight in the same thought. The writing of these movies is brilliant. Nolan makes everything so real and so much darker than the comics. The Joker brought something to being a villain that i've never seen before. He truly wanted to see the world burn. His goal was to turn good people bad and to just cause chaos. That is much better than most other villains that just want to gain power and rule the world or something. Someone with no weakness who basically just wants to fuck with everyone. It's incredible. I've never seen a movie where everyone was legitimately afraid at every second that something could go terribly wrong. The Joker had complete control of Gotham City and everyone, including Batman, was scared. I wish there were more villains like that.
Anyways I get what you're saying. I just don't agree with it. You like the more traditional batman stories and aren't as big of a fan of the new "darker" adaptations of it. I think it makes Batman more real rather than just another superhero from a comic. But don't discredit Nolan just for the Batman series if you don't like them. Memento, The Prestige, and Inception were all fantastic films. |

| All in all i think TDKR is going to be the best movie of all time for a while, but I dislike Catwoman in this movie. It sort of trivializes the narrative of Nolan Batman. I have faith in Nolan though. Can't wait til July 20! |

I've been a Batman fan all my life. I watched TAS everyday and had a thousand Batman action figures. I'm also an aspiring film major and Christopher Nolan is hands down my favorite director and my biggest inspiration. I get what you are saying, but your ideal format is to much for a movie. As a comic or a video game, (You essentially described Arkham City) It works brilliantly, and the colorful characters and setting work perfectly. As a film, it'd be to chaotic and no one would enjoy it.
As a fan yourself you have to understand that there are hundreds of different ways people have portrayed Batman over the years. Nolan's adaptation is nearly polar opposite to TAS, and no where near how the comics portray the character. You have to take these movies for what they are, a darker grittier take on the character and the world around him. |

I haven't read the graphic novel series, but because it is a different writer/story, it could be something entirely different than what you're accustomed to. |

He never said that Zimmer's soundtrack for The Dark Knight was bad, but if it was used on another actor/character besides Ledger's Joker. I don't see how he is a "hater". The things he said is just what he would have liked to see. It's not like he is saying so and so was bad without giving a reason. Everyone has a different opinion. In his case, he did a good job in pissing you off.

I agree with his opinion - I was one of the few people who was utterly disappointed with the first two Nolan Batman movies. I think the worst way he screwed up was in Wayne's character. He emphasised the playboy aspect, but made him seem immature - whereas the Burton ones made Wayne a silent, thoughtful Bruce Wayne, and even when he was with women he was strong and alpha, whereas Nolan makes Wayne some guy who is like oh wow this Batmobile is sooo cool I want one! I especially hated the scene where he was in the water with those prostitutes and Katie Holmes sees him and is disappointed at what a boy he was.
The Bruce Wayne I know is intelligent, always training, always looking down on others and commanding respect, always thinking ten steps ahead of everyone else - he just delegated duties (rather than relying on people like Alfred to give him maturity, Lucious to do all his computer stuff). Nolan's Wayne is just a pussy-ass 30 year old guy who still acts like a kid. Even in the comics when Batman was a mummy's boy he did it in a silent, resilent way. Not the weak Wayne we see in Nolan's movies. |

Give me a joker who does shit like poison all the fish in Gotham so they grow Joker faces, and then demand a patent for all the fish that share his unique face. No no no, instead we get...Ra's Ah Ghul, Harvey Dent (and he wasn't twoface, has was Harvey Dent who got disfigured. He did nothing, at all (oh except that time he was in a brutal car crash with no apparent negative effects), Catwoman, Bane....what a snooze fest.
What I would like to see is get out of this damn '2-villain' only format. If Bane, Killer Croc, Penguin or Deadshot is in the movie, they don't have to be the main antagonist. Have a group of villains, one or two ringleaders, and a cast of lesser villains who may be helping or hindering the ringleaders, or just doing there own shit and Batman comes across one while he's trying to deal with the others (e.g. Killer Croc is just randomly fucking around in a sewer and Batman comes across him by chance and has to fight him to continue his objective).
Perhaps the villains could be fighting each other for some reason, and Batman has to control the chaos and end it somehow. Contrary to what Nolan might believe, the movies don't have to center around one or two villains blowing up parts of the city.

I don't disagree with some of your post, but your suggestions sound like a badly written game plot. Killer Croc shuold just be a random encounter? What about story flow or continuity? It just sounds like an excuse to have some cool action scenes. Which is exactly what people complain about in super hero movies.
A Joker who poisons all the fish in Gotham? What? See the point is that, though it may not be amazing by some standards, the villains actually had a motivation. Movie Joker's personality is pretty clearly understood and his actions reflect that. They have a purpose that's congruous to a story they are telling. It's not just a random episodic encounter. The movie is supposed to tell a story, and while you may not agree with it, your suggestions of cool ideas seem focused on cool action scenes. That's the type of stuff that generates movies like Dead or Alive. |

You clearly missed the whole point of Wayne's development of a character then. The movie is called Batman Begins. It's the story of how Wayne took on the role of Batman and grew from a immature playboy billionaire to a dark, remorseful character that needed to do what was best for Gotham. Wayne grew from the way he was in Begins to what you saw in Burton's Batman, the silent and thoughtful Wayne we saw in The Dark Knight. |
