This is getting pretty popular, so I thought it was time to make a separate thread about it.
Mostly this will be for discussion about my Magic Online games. I will record draft replays and upload them to this thread for anyone who may have missed the drafts, and feel free to discuss/ask questions about my picks, or Magic: the Gathering in general.

p1p2 was probably just a mistake; Viridian Claw ends up being better in most decks. p2p1 was a question of whether I wanted to commit to white, and it was definitely a gamble. With a Geyser and 3 ground defense guys, it makes more sense to take a flyer over Stag which has no special interaction with our deck.
M1:
Opponent has an okay monowhite aggro deck. The match is a series of hilariously bad misplays as I appear to no longer have a functioning brain and walk into a flashed Shimmer Myr to lose game 1. Games 2 and 3 are more of the same, but Priests of Norn end up being good enough to hold off all of his dorks, and he has no removal to stop my flyers from killing him.
M2:
Opponent is playing a pretty standard infect deck. Game 1 I get stuck on 1 island/3 plains for 10 turns while he gets a Skinwing equipped to his guys and pretty much rolls me. Game 2 is pretty epic, as I do battle with a t3 Cystbearer t4 Flesh-eater Imp t6 Fangren Marauder. I kill off Cyst and start to stabilize by topdecking Pinions which holds off his Imp for awhile, and eventually I take hold of the board with a Golem Artisan and Barbed Battlegear. The game goes on forever until we both have 3 minutes left and I'm pretty sure I'm going to clock him, however, he draws a Slice in Twain for our Artisan and kills us. Overall, this deck is pretty sick. 6x 2cc removal spells, a couple of bombs, and tons of cheap flyers. No picks were especially difficult. p1p1 I took a Burn because the next best 3 cards in the pack were all infect, so taking Corrupter would open us up to getting cut hard in pack 2. After that it was easy mode.
M1:
Opponent has a mediocre G/R dinos deck with Embersmith and some bad artifact dudes. Game 1 is pretty one-sided as he gets manascrewed early and we tap his Myr with Rust Tick, following which he has no answer to Rusted Relic and Golem Artisan. Game 2, Darksteel Sentinel just shuts down his deck and we win easily.
M2:
Game 1 I keep a 2-lander, play a turn 2 Wall of Tanglecord while my opponent responds with a Scrapmelter and Ardent Sphinx. I manage to Burn his Sphinx, but never draw a third land, and I die. Game 2 my opponent's deck is revealed to be not as strong as he plays out a Memnite and some other weak creatures. I draw Mimic Vat, but he has a Shatter. We keep trading guys and removal, and eventually I cast a Viridian Claw that ends up dominating the board, as I force my Master's Call tokens in for the win. Game 3 our opponent starts off with Memnite + Rebirth, and I'm forced to trade a 1/1 Sunchaser for a token, then I draw Master's Call to take out two more. After that he just has equipment and a Tumble Magnet, while I have all of my 5 and 6-drops which I ride to victory.

I decline to split. Opponent is U/W aggro. Game 1 is one-sided as he gets manascrewed and I have a Mimic Vat. Game 2 it's my turn to be manascrewed, and I have to eat some bad trades to stay alive. I finally stabilize with a Mimic Vat on his Hyppogryph, but he finds a Spine of Ish Sah to kill it off and I die shortly thereafter. Infect wasn't looking too open in pack 1, and I had a difficult decision in Flensermite vs Peace Strider. Going W/G dinos at that point would have been reasonable, but I decided to stick it out since Hydra is much better in an infect deck. I got rewarded with good early picks in packs 2+3, and a dense creature count overall, but the depth of the deck was certainly lacking since most picks 6-15 were blanks. It was probably lucky that I ended up with such a good deck when infect was so closed.

Finals:
I decline to split because I'm playing infect. Opponent is U/W and surprises us in game 1 with a Screeching Silcaw. He tries to outrace my Ichor Rats which is a huge mistake, and I eventually cast Hydra + Predation for the win. Game 2 his deck looks a lot more solid, with Myrsmith, Chrome Steed, and Rusted Relic. Blight Mamba holds off his creatures for awhile and we get to a board stall which I need to find a way to break, because he has a Grindclock in play. I start attacking with Mamba and he chooses not to block despite Untamed Might being potentially lethal. p1p2 I take Skyhunter over Sangromancer as I don't think W/B is a very good combination, and Sangromancer is not the best creature in the world. For similar reasons, I take a p2p2 Shatter over Grasp, because the Shatter is splashable and in a better color, even though I'm basically monoW at that point. Red is solidified in pack 3 and I get a pretty sweet 4th pick Prototype Portal, which is definitely one of the more underrated cards in the set for a deck with a bunch of cheap artifacts. With 2 wraths and a ton of flyers, the deck is looking pretty sick.
M1:
Opponent is infect with the Sangromancer that we passed, which he draws in all 3 games, and it turns out is pretty good against a deck full of 2/2 flyers. Karma is a bitch. Anyway, his deck is light on action but he has an Asceticism that we can't deal with, and it takes game 1 by itself. I side in Grafted Exoskeleton as it is my only out to Asceticism. I get in some early beats, but he stabilizes and plays an imposing Tel-Jilad Fallen which forces all my guys to sit back. Eventually I wrath and take control with a Skinwing'ed Rebirth token + Tumble Magnet, but he draws a Heavy Arbalest. He had the win here but he messed it up, giving me exactly lethal and moving us to game 3. Game 3 he goes all-in on the non-infect plan, smashing us with his Rager+Sangromancer and bringing in a Plaguemaw Beast with a Green Sun's Zenith. However, I just hold him off with some chump blocks until I can find the mana to Rebirth, and the game ends shortly thereafter.
M2:
In my favorite game of my entire life, I open up with a Wall of Tanglecord and then play t4 Prototype Portal copying Necrogen Censer. He tries to kill my wall with an Untamed Might, but I Divine Offering his guy in response, and the Wall holds the ground while I slay him with infinite Censers. The dream is realized. Game 2 he starts off with a Mortarpod+Rot Wolf, but I have a pretty fast draw and race him with my Glint Hawk Idol and Myr tokens. I Arrest the next guy he plays and drop a Saberclaw Golem which seals the deal.
Finals:

He has a lot of dinosaurs which makes it easier on me, since I can chump easily and race in the air. Game 1 he has a Bladed Pinions which makes my life difficult until I draw Turn to Slag, and then I swoop in with Hawks for the kill. Game 2 is pretty epic, I hold off his Mamba+Ichorclaw Myr for as long as possible with a Rebirth in my hand, waiting for him to tap out or drop another guy. Eventually he drops Mantis and I decide to wrath, but his Mamba lives, and he plays a Tanglewurm to give it intimidate. I draw Prototype Portal, which allows me to cast Glint Hawk returning Skinwing and imprint it onto the Portal, after which I'm able to infinitely equip my Myr tokens to block the mamba all day. @claytonsmithy: Hmm interesting, there are definitely a few drafts missing, but it looks pretty accurate. I'm slightly down at the moment, mostly from that string of 3 days where I couldn't win anything. Thanks!
@ddengster: No, it's not a good idea to hatedraft if there's anything you'll play in the pack. If I know the pack has nothing for me, then yeah I usually take whatever card I least want to face. |
