A bit dissapointed that this isnt really a proleague, but thats a sick lineup nevertheless and should be a very good tournament. IGN is pretty big so im sure they can make a good event!
These commentators are great but for a tournament and league of this caliber I hope you intend on bringing more analytical commentators for the future, this line up will be a disappointment for the fans who want to watch their favorite players.

I think PainUser, with his casts on stratbunker, is actually a really analytical caster. This scene needs variety, and Day[9] can't do every single tournament in existence. I actually hope they stick with this set up, because it brings in casual fans from HD and TB, and then has Wheat, a casting mainstay, and a new face with PainUser. Seems like plenty of variety in style, history, and game knowledge to make this tournament worth watching.

Give this man a star! Building and focusing on the casual fan base is essential to propel SC2 and e-sport into the pop-culture.

Youre right. It doesnt need to be Day9 all the time.

Just be happy there's a ton of great casters out there. And face it, both analytical and play by play casting are necessary for the growth of eSports and here to stay.
Also, to those saying no Europeans will turn in, that's ridiculous. I'm European and I'll turn in for sure. Actually, I find it quite refreshing to see a tournament entirely made up of NA players. Even if you could replace half the line up with "bigger" names from Europe/Korea/Whatever that doesn't necessarily mean it would make for more entertainment or a "better" competition. And at the end of the day, that's what it's all about.
With so many global tournaments going on all over the place, I think it's perfectly fine with a focused test like this.
Because every Day9 fanboy needs to chime in with their 2-cents. When they say "analytical commentator" they only ever mean 1 person.

I am thrilled to see someone like IGN throwing some weight behind this, and I feel like every new tourney at this level is a win for all of us. Mad props to IGN, and I really like this eSports momentum.
I will say I don't get the vitriol on the caster issue. First, I feel like the amount of support we should be showing for something like this would outweigh any reservations on the casters.
Second, I really like HD Starcraft. When I was first wading into the SC2 online community his casts were a very entertaining gateway. Now I take the game much more seriously, but I really do enjoy alot of his releases. I find his analysis solid, and as a mid level Masters he knows the game. I think to poopoo the guy because he isn't Day9 or a pro is prohibitively snobbish.

Not everyone. I admit I skimmed the thread but I read why Day9 is not casting, but even if I did not, I meant what I wrote exactly : when I said analytical caster I meant it in general. I would not mind InControl, I would not mind Artosis, I would not mind any high level player that has what it takes to cast. I just think PainUser won't be casting all games and I find casts without analytical caster worse than with one.
I'm worried about having links to VODs from the brackets. At the moment I'm only interested in viewing the matches via VODs, but if there is no easy way to access them without being spoiled, I cannot follow the league.
just watched last gsl, tasteless was great, i take back everything i said
lol @ using youtube views to compare popularity to day 9 and artosis. but yknow they can't do everything, and day9 needs time to do his dailies. anywho, no more point in complaining, IGN will decide what to do in the future based on views, let's see if TB is indeed the past, present, and future of starcraft

Sounds like a great event, can't complain about free streams and VODs..
Also like to see HD + Painuser commentating.. I've seen a lot of HD's SC2 videoes and like him as a commentator. He also had PU as a guest for a game or two recently, thought he did good commentating as well.
Player list looks interesting, but, I'm used to watching GSL!
