Couldn't disagree more. In order to be the best, we have to beat the best. The attitude you expressed comes across as weak to me. Would you want all african americans out of the NBA so that the white dudes could showcase their middle-class skills?

What's with the rigged brackets? Why are people so deathly afraid of mirror matchups? They are a third of the game. Yuck. If you want to seed the top 4 players from last tournament, fine, but the rest of the people should be randomly distributed, not hand chosen like this.

I find this attitude to be missing the point a bit. Everyone in the IPL, no doubt, wants to be able to beat the best. I'm sure that's a goal of everyone involved. However, when developing a skill, be it music, sports, writing, whatever, it often helps to work and play with people at similar levels to yourself AS WELL as those who are better. They offer different types of environments to improve, both necessary for anyone serious about making a career out of a competitive skill. I know of no competitor who didn't come up through the ranks, working at multiple levels at once to get better.
The "hit your head against a wall" approach, where the wall are the Koreans, is not helpful. I want to see a vibrant American scene, and it seems IGN understands how to built just that. This isn't about racism, or classism, it's about skill level. Just like it makes sense to have women-only tourneys, it makes sense to havre NA/EURO only tourneys. There are already plenty of tourneys that allow all players to come and compete.

They were seeded in, there was no hand choosing!

A tournament is supposed to find the best player, not to help anyone improve, that is what practise is for. I could understand a "only americans because its an american tournament" approach, but "everyone but koreans, because they are better and some people want to see white dudes win" is stupid.

The best player within a particular context, yes. But, amazing as it may be to some, there are many tournaments that have other goals besides just finding the best player. I thought the interview with the people behind the IPL made it fairly clear they are playing a more layered game than just "trying to find the best player."
