Sucks about the match fixing. Won't really comment but to say i think harsh penalties are mandatory. You need a deterrent. The higher the penalty, the higher the risk, the less likely people are to get involved. Can't stop everyone, but like moderation (forum moderation etc) you need a strict enforcement policy. I hope our foreigner SC2 growth is ready to tackle this issue head on should it ever arise here. Serious business. |

Thanks for this article. It made me appreciate BW more than I previously did as someone who came into this community by the time TSL 2 started to finish up (RO4, I think) so I've only ever heard of the big names like Boxer and SaviOr. Never seen them play and never known what was so special about them.
I do watch the occasional MSL/OSL/Proleague, though, after being hyped up by all the enthusiasm on this site. Quite awesome stuff, quite awesome indeed. |

These questions are not able to be answered. As much as I would love to provide answers. Brood War, to answer the question, was simpler in the beginning than it is today, to say the very least. But it's impossible to compare the two, even from the start. In SC2 we had a huge base of knowledge to start with that didn't exist in BW. But I don't know that it CAN'T evolve. It's impossible to say without time/expansions. edit: And before people say we should just "give it time" I think it's ok to start to wonder what will need to happen in expansions to see another BW Another edit: BTW to the other response that we just need to wait, all games don't magically end up BW. Plenty of games have just straight flopped or die.

There are some things that depend on how the game is designed. Maybe SC2 is just not as deep as a game right now, and no matter how much time we wait, if it is not changed, it will never reach the level BW has. Im not sure about this, Im no game designer myself, but it deserves some thought.
I mean, it looks like childsplay when compared to what Saviour, Flash, Bisu, Jaedong, Oov and others were doing. Just look at GSL!
Could it be that the game is faster paced so that deep profound complex strategies are less viable than overwhelming timing attacks?

| Wow.. awesome article. The tactics made in sc1 can be easily translated to sc2. This article made me miss the lurker and its capability to hold down positions and delaying attacks. Perhaps burrowed banelings will be the answer for sc2. This makes me excited for what types of monsters will appear in the future. |

Seriously all the tactics stated in the articles are what makes BW great.
These tactics still apply in SC2 but to a much lesser extent, and that, is the difference.

Excellent read. To the new readers/members of TL since the release of SC2, this article gives a glimpse of why SC2 lacks so far behind SC:BW when it comes to tactics, positioning, mind games, and overall greatness.
THIS is why BW veterans always bash SC2. Because BW has so much more to offer.
This article brought nerd tears to my eyes. I watched SC:BW since SlayerS_`BoxeR` (yes, correctly spelled) days and followed the rise and deaths of bonjwas and development of strategies, and I honestly wish SC2 will develop into something even of comparison. |
