After much thought and bitter hatred of how current CL Admins ruined 2 years of my hard work, I have decided to start a project to revive competition. At this rate, iCCupCL will end up like BWCL and if you're an experienced member of a Clan, you know about the downfall. I have many ambitions and ideals regarding this new creation, but for now...I will leave it simplistic.
Champions Clan League -Registration Fee < Prize Pool Depending on how many teams decide to join, we can vote on what the initiation will be. Off the top of the head, I'd say that $25 would be great. If we had 10 teams, that'd be $250 to the top team or divided between #1, #2, and #3. The decision will rely on the teams that enter. -Format/Rules We'll go with standard and basic rules that everyone can abide by. They will be thoroughly reviewed so there are no loopholes and confusing aspects. -Maps Most likely voted by popular demand or latest Proleague maps. -Date/Time Most likely voted by popular demand.
I am leaving heaps of information out, such as creating a new website for Standings and requests/complaints. However, this is just a meek skeleton of something I would invest my time, effort, and money on.
What do you guys think?

Do you have a person capable of creating a good site for free? Do you have enough staff outside of yourself to maintain the site and league successfully? ie. you have to go out of town during a league week, who runs the show? Also, I think $25 is too much, not in general, but for the BW community. Not because they don't have it, but because the BW community is like a trust fund baby, and due to that level of being spoiled can't see the bigger picture of spending a penny.
Other than that, I can foresee the comments coming later saying "if X amount of teams register, I will put my clan in." Personally I think you should've hit the private sector of generous and family-esque teams who want to be in something like this, and then launched a BETA idea saying "derp, herp, and syphilis have promised to play." I've heard of countless ideas like this, and while they're impeccable in theory, never work out.
With that said, I think you are the best person to do it. You aren't greedy in projects that you work with, and you know a shitton more than any other organizers of clan leagues. In conclusion, I think if you get it up on its feet it will thrive for at least 4 seasons and I'll definitely have my clan participate. Thanks for your foresight and effort Joe.

I have thought about this before you even posted and if you'd be wanting some help I'd definetly help in any way I can.
I have a few thoughts so I'll post again when I get home.

I would be very much looking to enroll AoV in any such thing, as I'm extremely concerned about ICCup events at the moment. I also think it's important to support new ideas- a monopoly is never healthy! It's too open to abuse, and people should have a choice, because right now, it's deal with things as they are or quit.
Also, more competitive BW??? Fuck yeah.
Good to see more and more people taking the initiative.

Okay, so I'm back home... Gotta not check TL during lunch anymore, my mind was in the gutter all afternoon.
Anyhow,
I would disagree with Game's comment about the cash entry fee being too high, because lets say you have a top lineup of 8 players and want to split it evenly between them... If you only have 250, each player gets really next to nothing. Of course if you bump up the total too high players might be turned off because its too expensive, however, there is a solution to this. If you could have a section within your organization who scouted out for sponsors you can offer sponsorship to clans and shit. The players don't have to pay directly out of their pockets, although they can. I have to admit getting sponsorship could be tough, but you're not looking for a huge amount really.
Anyhow, I really can't comment too much more without knowing what you're planning as far as format or anything, if you want to discuss you can skype me.

Ben, I didn't say the fee was too high, I said the BW community is exceedingly spoiled and frugal, and due to that, would be like pulling teeth among common teams.
|
As much as I like the idea of a clan league with prizepool again, the fee will stop pretty much every team except LRM) and AoV participating?
I just don't see anyone willing to fork out the cash, and since there are pretty much no longer sponsored BW teams, that fee is going to determine the fate of the league.
That said, if it all does work out I wish best of lucks to you and having the initiative to organize such a thing is great!
|
Thing is, the fee won't stop teams like Nb, sas, vTv or any semi competitive or above team. But anyone who just wants to join this for fun will probably think twice or more.

I think its meant for the best foreign clans , not everyone else or defeats the purpose of making it more competitive.

I find it mind-boggling that $25 dollars per team seems too much. Obviously I don't take contention with what Game is saying that many may be too spoiled to pay it, but that's just an aside.
As far as sponsorship is concerned, our chances are of course getting ever better with the increasing popularity and quantity of streamed community events. Viewers=opportunity for sponsors of course. I think this could be a good case for a wholly unsponsored beta season, in which the league can gain popularity and public exposure. This new league is the kind of scheme which will (and the likes of which are already starting to) really drive momentum.
People also have to see it not as giving money to some team better than them, but getting their team up to that standard to compete for that money too! Way I see it, it should be a real battle for the prize and prestige. It's a vested interest for one thing. I don't do these things cos I like burning money. I do them because I hold real faith in my team, and I advise any other clan leaders to do the same.
EDIT; Also- Clanleague with a prizepool?? Look out for Nostalgia tuorney. It's happening already.
|
Shameless Nostalgia plug-in I think the premise of this league is based on good teams, not a league with 1-2 decent teams and a bunch of C- average ranked teams.
|
id like my team to participate in this
i keep seeing new ideas pop up to give to the foreign bw scene, fucking awesome work every1 and specifically joe here

Thank you guys for your input. The registration fee is up in the air. The main reason why I thought of that originally was on the premise of: buy-in hold'em tournaments. Players(Teams) that pitch in their own "hard-earned" cash are more inclined to care more about what they are investing in. Personally, if one player(leader) registers his team, $25 might be a bit much. However, if a team of 5 players all put in $5, the money doesn't seem as much especially since it will be going to a prize pool that can be "won back" with benefits.
I just wanted to see what kind of responses I would get if I were to launch something like this. Ideally, sponsors or non-participating members of the community investing in this League would be the better route. I just have my doubts in that field. More than likely, I will start a committee or staff in due time based on how many people become interested in helping me create this project.
|
These kind of money tournaments really help making foreign BroodWar a more serious scene. I do like the money incentive, plus what Joekim said, if people put their own money on the line they will most likely put the effort in and say, practice alot before the matches. Obv making the scene even more competetive. Just one step closer to the pre-sc2 days
People who put alot of time into BroodWar should rightfully be rewarded for their skill.

A true testament to iCCupCL

...you mean like, how we kick out abusers like JoeKim?

i'm struggling how joekim is capable of heading such a thing when he abused ICCup to get what he wanted. So excuse me if thats not odd at all.
so someone breaks serious rules and not only screws other teams over in the process, but also screws over ICCup.

Proof?

Don't like it, don't join it. I'm sure he'll get enough players regardless. Also, who are you on the iccup team?
|
I'm not saying another cl is a bad thing. But in such bad blood seems so disrespectful .I'm sure he'll get enough people and clans, but it shouldn't have come to this.
