The Tournament is open all individuals in the following countries that are 16 years of age or older as of June 2, 2011, and who properly register for the Tournament (each a "Player"): Canada (excluding residents residing in the Province of Quebec), China (excluding Hong Kong), Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, India, Netherlands, Norway, Taiwan, United Kingdom, and the United States. Each Player may be required to show proof of age and residence. ALL PLAYERS MUST OWN A BLIZZARD NORTH AMERICAN ACCOUNT. Employees of Sponsors and their immediate families (parent, child, sibling and the spouses of each) are not eligible to register for the Tournament. Yeah, how would it be possible to stop this kind of thing? :/
the real question is how to define a "pro"? |

I would assume that the reason some countries are excluded have to do with that countries laws in regards to gambling, taxes and such.
To be honest, I'm really surprised they added Sweden to the list. I guess it will be up to any potential Swedish winner to fill in the tax-paperwork and pay any worker fees and what not.

can't imagine there's too many similarities between indian tax legislation, the IRS's usual order of business and norway.

Sorry to anyone who is finding out that their country is not included on the eligibility list. We are continuously investigating individual country laws in an effort to expand services there as well. If your country is not listed and you would like for us to further investigate the local laws so that you can be included in the future, please let us know HERE and we will add them to our active list.

I personally know that players from Japan and Mexico will compete and should be allowed on the list. I'm almost 100% positive that their countries laws will allow them to compete.... Other countries that should be investigated are of course the SEA countries (Singapore Australia New Zealand Thailand Vietnam, Hong Kong, etcetc) and European countries (Ukraine Poland Turkey etc). There are players all over the world in nearly every country world wide. So players from the Middle East and Central and South Asia are completely being left out as well.
But coming from me PERSONALLY, please investigate Japan and Mexico asap so they can start applying!! thx^^ |

No Quebec = No Kiwikaki... :'( But, overall it seems like a fantastic tournament. The only big issue coming out of this seems to be drawing the line between Pro/Am (apart from the time commitment issue raised by Lalush). I wonder how the organizers will deal with this, since there are some players considered as "Pro's" who are just in Masters. On the other hand, there are many players in GM who are not considered as "Pro's" or are well-known for that matter. Either way, I'm looking forward to this, but I can also see the criticism of many others. |

Usually it has to do with laws with regards to awarding prizes for competitions. They said on their site that if you think a country needs to be added that you should tell them and they will look into the legal situation for that country.Last edit: 2011-06-03 07:51:42 |

Would be great if you add Israel to the approved list, don't think our country has any laws against this. |
