So what on earth could this keyboard be that I found at the recycling center? It looks just like IBM Model M but it's yellow and it's not made by IBM and it's significantly lighter. The switches seem really strange to me. They look like white Cherries (The part that's connected to the keycaps) but they don't seem mechanical like that o_O Also they have some "rubber tubes" ? Wtf... It's using the old connector (Before PS2) So the keyboard should at least be from earlier than 1990 I think... What on earth is this?
Another one that interests me is HQK BITS9901 Turbo-Trak keyboard(Also using the older connector), because although the switches seem membrane, they... don't feel membrane at all? What's with this =S They feel almost linear... Last edit: 2012-05-09 18:16:44 |

If I'm thinking what's you're thinking, the keyboard will be quite similar to the plastic spring system used in a few old IBM-era Thinkpads. Essentially the idea is roughly the same as the buckling spring mechanism only that they're plastic. The rubber tube is connected permanently to the keyboard right?
I think they were made by NMB. They were really damned good. |

Really damned good? Well doesn't sound like it's this >_>
BTC E5X5R5BTC-5339R-O B T C - 5 3 series I think. As I said, looks exactly like IBM Model M without the logo, even similiar caps lock etc indicators and the curled wire... Not sure what to make of this.

need a new hdd for my brother. does it matter alot which i take nowadays?
current options: 1.caviar green 500gb for 75€ from retailer. advantage is i could pick it up right now 2.caviar blue 500gb for around 61€ + 10€ shipping = 71€ 3.barracuda 500gb 60€ + 10€ shipping = 70€
he's tight on budget and had to wait for his new (my old) pc longer then expected since his old ide hdd seems pretty much broken.Last edit: 2012-05-09 20:55:21 |

| If its a boot drive, you want a 7200RPM. So Caviar Blue or Barracuda. Caviar Greens are fine but its a 5400RPM drive. |

If that's a Barracuda 7200.12 or something similar, I would say go with that. Build quality is great, and 7200RPM with a 16mb cache is all you really need. Cavier Blue is pretty comparable, you're paying a bit more for the name brand. Stay away from the Caviar Green, 5400RPM sucks. |

alright thx, went with the caviar blue. and was the regular barracuda 7200, no .11 or .12.
and while im at it , whats up with the huge differences in win7 price. i myself "bought" (was gift from gf) win7pro oem half a year ago for 120€. now i see shops and ebay sometimes having them for like 60€ while others still have the ~120€ for oem and 290€ (!!!111one) for full retail versions.
he might need win7 in some time too so that would be interesting to know.

There's a number of different versions of Windows 7, besides x86 versus x64; there's a home basic edition, home premium edition, professional, and ultimate. There's some differences as far as included features and downloadable software; the single biggest difference however is what each version's memory limit is.
For x64 installs, Windows Home Basic is capped at 8GB, Windows 7 Home Premium is capped at 16GB, and all other versions are capped at 192GB. source |

thx but knew about the different versions. (didnt know tho that there are memory caps in the home versions, not that it matters).
i dont understand how some shops can sell the same product for like half the price. if i look around i can find tons of win7pro oem versions for ~110-120€. but then there are several shops which sell exactly the same for ~60€. just seems weird to me

Looking for a good air cooler for my AMD Phenom II 955 BE. Not enthusiast level, but I do plan to OC it.
I have the stock cooler on it right now which is:
a) Loud as fuck b) Not the most cooling.
Looking for something pretty cheap, say $30-50CAD. |

Don't buy hardware from "a guy on ebay". Ever.
Buy from a reputable source such as New Egg or a retailer in your specific country, if necessary.
-edit: They just look like unlocked quad core i7 2700ks that this asshat is reselling for $200 more. Also, if you really clocked a sandy bridge to 5.1Ghz, even if you could manage to stop it from melting that would likely be unstable. That would be like a 68% increase in the clock speed. Go to New Egg and buy things from there, stay away from Ebay!Last edit: 2012-05-10 05:42:50 |
