This may or may not be a "simple question" but i don't think it deems its own thread, i'm currently running my i5 2500k @ 4.7ghz with a dynamic vcore of 0.09v. What kind of voltage am i looking at where i start to decrease the life of my CPU??

There doesn't seem to be a clear and 100% accurate answer anywhere, but some of my research has indicated that starting around 1.36 - 1.38 with continuous high loads (folding) can degrade a chip. I can't seem to find the link now (thought I had it bookmarked) but it was somewhere on overclock.net. You can probably find reports from folders who overclocked their chips high.

As far as I can remember, no chips died but they increasingly required much higher voltages to remain stable at overclocks they were previously stable with lower Vcore.

Yeah, chip degradation for a CPU is way too complicated to model exactly. Sandy Bridge hasn't existed for long enough for people to have tested them for several years yet, and maybe not in your usage pattern. All you can figure out is how much is too much, within the span of several months, with certain workloads.

It really depends on how you're using the CPU and operating temperatures. If you have a 24/7 load, more electrons are passing through per day (and probably in higher temperatures), and you can expect problems to occur sooner, as opposed to normal desktop usage.

And of course there's non-trivial sample-to-sample variance. What happens for somebody else may not happen for you.

How do i find out the default voltage of my chip? I'm assuming that + dynamic vcore = voltage right?

Any reason CPU-Z would be saying my CPU is running at 3.49Ghz when I have it set at 3.2Ghz and Windows says its 3.2?

Well, did you mess around in your BIOS at all? Try checking clock speed with another chunk of software? Maybe CoreTemp?

Of the two you show, I'd be expecting CPU-Z to be the one that's right. But a 291.2 FSB, 12x multi IS 3.49.

Something somewhere is wrong about the multi would be my best guess. Maybe double check it in BIOS.

CoreTemp states 266x12 which is what I have it set at (3.2Ghz). Looks like CPU-Z is off.

.jpg format does not support a transparent layer. Only .png or .gif format can do so.

Also, I don't believe that mspaint supports doing transparent layers. Though there are some free and open source options like inkscape that might let you do what it is you are trying to.

Well if you were to utilize inkscape, you'd for sure have to completely remake it as inkscape is a vector graphics program. Technically you could copy it into something like photoshop and delete out the areas you want to be transparent, but going from a .jpg lossy format and recompressing into a .png format it going to look like shit pretty much. Unless you have it saved in .bmp format somewhere, I'd suggest redoing it.

If you do it in inkscape, you can save it in both a raster format (static pixles) like .png for use on your stream, and you can (and should) also save it in a vector format which can be resized to anything later and will still be high quality.

I dl'ed Inkscape and holy hell was it complicated and I couldnt really find what I was looking for (photo editing newbie here)
do you think Krita or PS express can do what I need? EDIT: PS express only supports JPG and krita only works on linux, Paint.NET had everything I needed and was super easy to use

PS express probably can, Krita I have no idea but I would guess it probably can.

Isn't Inkscape specifically designed to deal with vectors? That's probably the wrong software to use.

Really though, I'm fairly sure GIMP can do transparent layers easy enough.

GIMP is what I used for making transparent stuff when I was making a rainmeter theme. Free, not too difficult to learn, what's not to love?

Just a quick power question,

I'm currently running
2600k @ 4.5ghz 1.38v (Or 5ghz 1.55v depending on how crazy I am)
H100 closed loop (my temps are great but my chip sucks and needs massive amounts of voltage...)
GTX 680
ASrock Extreme3 Gen3
Xonar DG Sound Card
4 120mm fans total
keyboard/mouse/headset etc
Neo Eco 520c (480w on the 12v line)

I was wondering if I could power a 690 in my system instead of a 680. I saw that the Tom's setup had a 3960x at 4.5ghz in their power consumption testing for it, where it reached about 450w total system power draw during 3D mark.

I do a lot of streaming and I think I'd end up putting more load on the CPU than they did with 3D mark, although their CPU generally uses more power. I'm just not sure if I should bother trying or not.

GTX 690 should be okay. Why not just another GTX 680 though? Two 680s is actually getting to be too much for the Neo Eco 520C (though it may work fine in typical usage), but surely the cost of a better power supply and 680 is less than a 690?

So would you be streaming anything that would actually max out two GK104s? What's your monitor setup?

I actually have a question that may or may not be simple. I have an ASRock Extreme3 Gen3 motherboard, but the audio "seems" to have died. I tried messing around with the cables, making sure that nothing is wrong with it, but it just doesn't have any audio. It won't output sound to my stream, it won't output anything to my headphones, and the front/back headphone jack stopped working correctly.

This was a few months ago, and I just cut my losses and bought a sound card, but I'm thinking about reevaluating my situation. Does anyone have an idea of where I should check/what I should check, or should I just use the sound card that I have? The main reason I don't want to use a sound card is cause it's PCI and PCI sound cards are absolute shit, at least from my experiences with them. Another issue I've gotten is that there's a slight humming from the graphics card that creates feedback with the sound card =/

Thanks for any responses.
