I have an i5 2400 and apparently the max operating temp is 72C. It's been at 80C without my game slowing down. Now I take it this means the max operating temp is what you shouldn't go beyond for an extended amount of time in order to avoid long term damage, am I right?

I've cleaned my heatsinkfan and the rest of my case (was long overdue ^_^) and max load temps dropped by 10C and it's now at ~70C. Is it safe to run it at that temp for hours on end or will that mean a short lifetime for my cpu?

And if it's not safe - what should I do? Buy an aftermarket heatsinkfan? It's running on the stock cooler right now.

As for the game in question (Tera), can anyone explain why it doesn't matter how low or high I set the video quality - temps are between 72 and 67 regardless (and I tell ya, the lowest quality looks like absolute shit).

I don't believe that you should get temperatures that high with the stock hsf, have you tried remounting it?
Did the gas knock everyone out? Nope, just Jensen.

I haven't had any problems with temperatures since I build this machine, I believe it's just because Tera is a very demanding game. Idle is at a nice 33-35C, Firefox with youtube on 41C and WoW on high settings around 50-55C. Skyrim gives me 60C at high settings.

If the hsf wasn't mounted properly those temps would be far higher as well, no?

It wouldn't hurt to get a better cooler if your temperatures are going that high then. If you invest in a decent aftermarket cooler, you would be able to keep it for future use so it isn't a bad investment at all.

Here i come yet again.... Computer shuts down because of what i guess is my overheating cpu (over 40°C ambient doesn't help with that) after 2 mn of usage

to start i woke up after sleeping about 1hour and a half was to tired, felt really really hot in my room (a lot more then usual), i check on my computer and indeed the case itself was.... almost burning hot, i turn everything off immediatly, take it a part a bit later waiting for a it to cool down. I then take out all the dust (was a pretty nig amount, even though i took care of it not last month if i recall correctly...).
So i try to turn it back on, but no, keeps turning back off TT what other then the CPU could be causing this? (because for that, i've no solution to take care of it at the sec...)

Uhh, well, it could be the GPU or a chipset, too, but if it's refusing to boot from heat, probably CPU, and if it won't do it once it cools off, you're probably fucked? Tried repasting and reseating cooler?

No paste at sec, lend it to a friend last week suposed to get it back soon TT
reseating/retightening cooler didn't work (actually more tight then what it was before...)

doubt it's gpu though, it's been well over 90° without an issue, never failed me yet
edit : not gpu that's for sure, just tested without

edit : seems to be a burnt mark on a piece of the motherboard..... well i guess i'm a go to send it back...

- i have i5 2500k processor with coolermaster hyper 212 evo cooler.

- i overclocked (first time) cpu to 4,5ghz, but im not sure if its stable..

- ran some tests with 'Intel Burn Test' and 'Prime95' and monitored CPU temp with 'HWMonitor'
- results was from 75 to almost 90 degrees on CPU

- made new tests but this time monitored it with 'Asus thermal radar' and result was ~80 degrees

How do i make sure i have a stable overclock? what can happen if its not stable? witch monitoring soft do i trust? also what is the max recommended temp on the CPU?

thx

To test stability, run Intel Burn Test for 1 hour and/or Prime95 for 12 hours. If it succeeds these tests, then it's stable. Real-life applications don't put nearly as much load on it.

As for temperatures. Measure with RealTemp or CoreTemp. These 2 programs are known to be reliable. HWMinitor and the "Asus thermal radar" may be accurate too, but I don't know for sure, so just get either RealTemp or CoreTemp.

The absolute maximum for an i5 2500k is 98C, which is the point at which it will start to throttle itself. But you really don't want to go near that. Everyone has their own personal limits, but I would say that anything that goes over 80C~85C during IBT (Prime95 is a bit cooler usually) is cause for concern.

Finally, you asked what happens when an OC is not stable. When an OC is not stable, small errors pop up when the CPU is executing code. These may show up as calculation errors, which is what programs like IBT and Prime95 check for or a system crash (blue screen of death for example). An unstable OC on its own is not detrimental for the CPU. Depending on your current settings you may need to increase the voltage, upgrade the cooling or change some other finetuning setting. Or you just happened to find the limit of your CPU.

thx for the reply, i lowered the oc tot 4,3ghz, downloaded 'RealTemp', ran 'IBT' for 4 "cycles?" and max temp was 88 (not constant tho, it drops to 70 and then climbs back up, also it probably would get higher if i ran it for more cycles)

Edit: lowered to 4,0Ghz, also lowered from 1,350V to 1,300 and max temp was at ~80 now (gonna run more tests with 4,0Ghz and 1,3V)
Edit2: Nope, it still climbs to 80++
Edit3: Re-arranged the cooler so that the fan would face the GPU, also i think i had way too much thermal paste so i removed it and applied a little less this time, so far max temp didnt reach 80degrees while stress testing with IBT

Also as a side note, my PCI heat goes over 60, SATA6G ~70 and USB3.0-1 ~75.. Is this normal temp?
maybe i overclocked smth wrong or applied not enough thermal paste on the cpu?

So my computer did this thing where I turn it on and things beep, but the monitor gets no signal. It was a problem but I get to solve it by doing this thing that removes the static, and it works again. However, when I was disconnecting my VGA cable, I thought I unscrewed it properly but it wasn't totally removed. When I pulled it, the screw attached to the port came with my cable, but the VGA port stayed intact and didn't loosen or anything (I re-screwed the screw back). So I tried using it again this morning and now it won't give a signal on that port. Now when I connect to the other port (The one connected to the motherboard), it doesn't read my vid card and only reads the standard VGA graphics adapter. My PC runs properly, except the resolution changed. It works on one port, but not on the other where it recognizes and is connected to my main graphics card. So, is the screw problem huge? Do I need to replace my vid card for it? Do I need to replace anything else, aside from the VGA port?

I just got home internet after years of having none. But when I tried to play Brood War multiplayer online, there is no "battlenet" option. Only the four choices below:

Local Area Network [IPX]
Modem
Direct Cable Connection
Local Area Network [UDP]

How can I play Brood War online now?

EDIT: Solution discovered:

I figured it out! Battle.Net was not showing up as a multiplayer option because I was missing a file called "bnet.snp" (545 KB) in my StarCraft folder.

I am a noob and this is my first player page I've made on liquipedia. I don't know how to change the title? Heres the link: User:Freezd/Veralynn
I want to change where it says "User:Freezd/Veralynn" to just "Veralynn". Any help would be appreciated.

This page was moved to your user page because the player isn't notable enough

You can't move it back, someone will do it if she becomes notable

I'm trying to stream to twitch using Xsplit. The quality that is broadcasted looks like 360p at best even though it is set to stream in 720p. I have the licensed version and streaming in 720p at 20 fps. My CPU is a 2500k 3.4 GHz. My upload is only .85MB/s but i have xsplit set to only use a max of .65MB/s. Looking at other guides I've copied settings with a similar upload, and no one I've seen has experienced this problem.

Can anyone explain why twitch is not displaying the correct quality that is being uploaded? I'm not dropping frames according to Xsplit, and lowering quality to 480p or increasing to 1080p does not seem to help. Screen basically all pixelated. Any help is much appreciated!

Hi there
Today/yesterday (not sure) my skype just suddenly stopped showing the Korean alphabet, and I have not installed anything or changes settings in over a year.

When I try to write, skype shows the signs in the text box, but when I send it they change into squares. Koreans on my friends list also have their names showed in squares now.

I tried to google it, but the only solution was this:
http://community.skype.com/t5/Windows/Chinese-Japanese-Korean-characters-do-not-display-properly-on/...

Which did not work. I have tried reinstalling it four times and changing settings all over the place, but I just can't make it work. I have also tried removing the skype folder in the roaming folder (was told to try and do that, not that I understand what it means)

What to do???
