| Retail means you get to keep the license for life. OEM means its tied to the computer. If you care about ethics than okay donate to Microsoft? |

| i recently got my hands on the EVGA x79 FTW motherboard http://www.evga.com/articles/00655/ but it wont fit in my current case, before i go (try to) buy a new case is there any specific sort of specs i need in a case to house the motherboard? are there any recomendations for an (ideally) cheap case i could get in Canada? |

Hm, you got the EVGA X79 FTW as a prize or something like that?
The motherboard is just a standard size ATX affair. If your case supports ATX motherboards (if there are 7 or more expansion slot covers on the back, then the answer is "yes"), then it will fit that motherboard. Most tower cases you buy at retail fit this description. Your current case is probably just designed to fit microATX at the maximum, and thus only has 4 expansion slots. Most OEM (mini-) tower systems are this size, but most midtowers support the normal ATX. If it fits ATX, it will fit microATX and miniITX as well.
What do you do with your computer? If it's not benchmarking as a hobby or professional 3D rendering or some other very heavy usage, I'd highly recommend selling the motherboard, considering the market value is like $350 or more. I'm guessing you don't fit that category, since you're asking about cheap cases. The cheapest CPU that motherboard currently supports is around $600 dollars (next year a lower-end ~$300 model will be available), but that's negligibly better for gaming than an i5-2500k.
An i5-2500k costs around $220 and works with motherboards in the $50+ range, and can be overclocked on motherboards in the $100+ range. For most people it just doesn't make sense to use the X79 platform.Last edit: 2011-12-24 05:38:12 |

pretty mcuh right now just using it for gaming and watching streams id rather not sell it since im interested in building a really good computer i was really looking for a cheap case more because i dont really want to drop a lot of money on something that looks nice when something cheaper would do jsut as well
sounds like ill have to upgrade my CPU before i can use it though
would the motherboard work with a lower CPU or do i need at least an i5 to use it?Last edit: 2011-12-24 06:08:05 |

Even if you don't sell it, it'd be cheaper to buy a different motherboard and use the EVA motherboard as a paperweight, than buy one of the CPUs for the EVGA X79 FTW.
You'd get something just as good (if not slightly better) for what you do, that uses less power. With the money saved, you could get an SSD, and upgrade mouse / keyboard / monitor / headphones / speakers / whatever. |

Also understand with that socket type you are in for a long painful ride should any problems happen with the CPU or anything like that down the line. As myrmidon said entry level processing is $300 but you would be a complete idiot to purchase one of those processors when an 1155 processor in the $200 will give it a run for its money and in some cases outperform it.
Myrmidon suggests SSD and stuff to improve upon, but also realize you could go up to 2 or 3 GPU's with the amount of money you could end up dropping on the 2011 line.
Now, if you were going to do that anyway. Well then yeah maybe 2011 is for you but for any computer below $3000 I would stay very far away. |

SSD is a type of hard drive, mechanical being the other SSDs are relatively expensive compared to mechanical ($/GB) but are so much faster than the mechanical hard drive For example, booting your pc will be extremely fast. Last edit: 2011-12-24 11:40:34 |

SSD is a solid state drive and HDD is a hard disk drive, both are storage drives. |

I have an opportunity to buy a computer, and need to offer a price; however, I am slightly computer inept. What would be a reasonable price for a computer with these specs?: Intel Core i5 760 - 2.8GHz 4GB RAM 450 GB Hard Disk NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT RealTek GigaBit Ethernet Card |

$250-300 only thing good about this is the processor, its known for nice overclocks. But it should be fine for gaming etc.

If you have a router, you can have them recognize eachother on the network, so no need for a usb connection. Plus it would be faster. You just have to adjust the privacy settings on each computer to allow other people on your network to view files etc, etc. but if you insist http://www.wikihow.com/Connect-Two-Computers-Using-USB Last edit: 2011-12-24 17:11:19 |

| Hi I am looking to buy a new computer (has to be a laptop due to my parents are devorced and I want to take my pc with me all over the place! ;D) I would also like to be able to stream sc2, I have been looking for some things. The MSI GT780. And a custom buildt one: http://www.mm-vision.dk/produkter/vispcsystem.asp?action=vis&type=notevision&menu=notebook&varenr=701000030&gruppe=PCnotevision( the site is danish, but most of you should be able to look at the specs), for the record I have OS and hardware. The price for the MSI is 500 danish Kroners more expensive, but if you have somewhere who makes better pcs for lower prices and they ship to denmark I will take a look at them. |

Is there a way to stream sound only from chosen source? For example I would like to stream sound from SC2, but at the same time be able to talk on TeamSpeak/any other program, but don't stream this talking.
I'm using XSplit + Dxtory at the moment.
I've searched and found guides how to stream sound from stereomix + mic using FMLE, but maybe I was not searching enough so sorry if it was answered somewhere here.Last edit: 2011-12-26 20:13:41 |
