Nvidia updated their drivers as well recently for the gtx570 that should have given performance increase in sc2 and some other games. Any stats on that? |

| I want to buy computer with i5 2500k, gtx 550Ti and 4gb Gskills. Current prices of HDD are waaay too high, so my question is: if i buy some 250gb WD Caviar Sata 3gb/s (around 45$ here), it will highly slow down my computer? (want to buy 1Tb/2Tb when it will be cheaper, 120$ now). Last edit: 2011-12-29 00:56:30 |

Any harddrive you buy will not "slow down" your system any more than a larger one, unless: - Your harddrive is close to maximum capacity, it will slow down more as it is more full - You choose a harddrive with a different drive speed (ie. 5400rpm vs 7200rpm). 7200 is the standard for system drives, 5400 is for data/laptop power savings
Generally you choose a harddrive because of price, reliability and guarantee/branding over another one with similar specs, so in answer to your question, it will have no difference in performance.
Also, I believe there are better AMD equivalents at the 550ti pricepoint, I'd look into those if you aren't biased towards nvidia.Last edit: 2011-12-29 01:02:29 |

It will not slow down your computer. |

| Thanks for help ! The HDD is 7200rpm. I thought about HD 6770 too, but heard it slower, what do you think? (Maybe different card). |

After looking at benchmarks vs performance, a 460 768MB or 1GB is cheaper and faster, or the 6850 is ~$10 more for a 25% increase in performance. I'd look at this and decide yourself. |

Thanks for advices : ] Only one more question, it will be big differences in games (loadings, textures loading(?)) between SATA 3gb/s and SATA 6gb/s?

Ok quick question. Just built my pc, and i wanna sort the internet out, install all drivers needed, and install sc2 and patches. Can i do this without having any case fans at all? heres the specs:
core i3 540 hd 5750 8gb ram 500gb hdd
dunno how much info you need to know, but would it get too hot or anything? thanks |

No differences whatsover, excepting some newer solid state drives (not harddrives).

You don't need internal case fans to run, but they will aid overclocking attempts and lower running temperatures. No harm will come of running with no fan however, especially with a lower end system.Last edit: 2011-12-29 02:13:46 |

Yea maybe i didnt phrase it properly i knew it wouldnt stop it from actually running, that would be crazy, what i meant was would it be ok temperature wise, as in its not gonna fry something. But if youre saying it wont then thats fine, thanks |

| I'm fine with no fans with a 4850 that runs at 90c at load so I doubt you'll have problems |

hey, can someone please explain to me the 2.0GHz-2.9GHz? is it a "usually runs at 2.0 but can turbo to 2.9" kinda thing or is it a "it will generally output some where between those numbers" thing?

EDIT: Thanks
my friend has one paired with an i5 2500k and it maxes out WoW and SC2 on 1920/1080 but on bf3 tends to average about 25 fps on maxed settings

during threaded applications it will boost itself to 2.9ghz. While idle it will be 2.0ghz Say you open a game, it will boost to 2.9 etc etc. |

Intel® Core™ i7-2630QM, 6MB L3 Cache, 2.0-2.9GHz
It's turbo boost, basically automatic overclocking depending on how much load there is on the processor. If there's only load on one threads than it'll run at 2.9GHz, if there's load on all four threads than it'll run at like 2.6GHz, and so on... not exact numbers, just an example.
and Boblhead is wrong, it's definitely not at 2GHz when it's idle.Last edit: 2011-12-29 15:59:51 |

hey guys i hope someone can help me. I am trying to install Heroes of Might and Magic VI on my sisters computer.
The installation goes through without a hickup and the launcher starts fine after patching. THEN when i press play the game tries to start (full black screen) then freezes. HP advisor (ugh i hate that thing) shows: ERROR: an unspecified error occurred on the render thread.
Googling revealed that this error is probably due to a incompatible graphics setting. Ive made sure she had directx 11 and that her laptop is running on high performance and that her integrated graphics are running at high performance. I also updated the profile data setting some shading effect to false to no avail.
I'm hoping someone smarter than me to ponder this problem. I believe graphic drivers may be responsible but I am not confident in the procedure for viewing/updating/removing them. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

| Just look up the model on HP.com and download the latest drivers. It's not complicated to update drivers, just install like any application or game. |
