Thanks to GogoKodo who actually got what I was talking about, and upheld the high quality of forum posts I generally see here at TL

Free 2 Play and Pay 2 Play are 2 very different models and each model must be applied to a game that will actually make the most of it. Pay 2 Play is not a way of restricting players from playing the game, it just helps players respect the game which they have spent their $ on.

I dont think anyone could shit on the model that LoL has done, it has been insanely successful and will continue to be so, well after the release of DOTA 2. No matter what Valve choose to do there will still be a crap load of people playing the game.

What would save SC2 in my opinion if it went F2P is its ranking systems...would just make bronze alot more frustrating.

Would Dota not have these ranking systems? Surely with as huge playerbase, some kind of ladder would be vital? IF there is such a ladder, then in my opinion having the game free would be hugely preferable.

because its not actually free to play. It gives a giant advantage for the people willing to pay for runes for all your heros(hence why i stopped playing after beta)

It is free to play - having more heroes doesn't give you an advantage as an individual player... it gives you an easier time deciding which heroes are your favorite. Then again the free heroes rotate every week so once you find one you love you can save up and buy it with in game points that you get from winning games....

This "giant" advantage is just not there. I don't even think it's a small advantage. It's just a matter of figuring out what you like. If people are willing to pay more money to figure that out faster, then that should be an option.

You also can't pay for runes. So you obviously don't know what you're talking about and should just stop before you look like even more of an idiot.

Am I the only one who thought the Dota commentator was a bit of an idiot? How can you not want a game to become free to play? Surely that would be a great way to expand your scene. He seemed to shit all over Lol's model, which has been a resounding success.

LoL and Hon are free to play but you do have to buy their game currency to purchase additional heroes/models/etc. I personally would rather pay the $50 to get everything rather than spend hundreds on coins to get the same functionality.

There was that ThorZain game where he totally DOMINATED, but then the second and 3rd games he just reacted badly in a couple situations. Overall I would say the games were pretty big losses for the World, but the Thorzain ones in particular were very close.

He played well the first game but not the second or third at all really. And although a SlayerS player, Yugioh isn't exactly the best of the bunch.

You're not wrong. But I would hesitate to say Thorzain was dominated. The other games certainly were though.

And yeah... YuGiOh isn't the same as beating someone like Bomber or MMA. Still though, I feel like some of that was due to situation (especially that bullcrap about their flight being delayed 12 hours. F*** that, I hate being in an airport for 2 hours let alone a full day.), but that is certainly no excuse. These dudes are pros, and hopefully the next foreigners to head over take the transition more seriously and spend a good deal of time before hand in Korea acclimating and preparing so they don't get owned so hard. We can only hope.

And Slasher can only hate on foreigners. We expect nothing less.

Hey Slasher, is Ret going to be on the show? I saw somewhere on Twitter that he was going to talk about his victory at the EU Blizzcon Invitational.

Unless anything has changed Ret and Rapha (top quake player) will be on the show.

Slasher is the personality that the foreign scene needs because if everyone was as excuse friendly as most TL people, people would be content with our best foreigners losing to mid tier Koreans. After tsl 3 and gsl world championships, do you think ANYONE in the world would have said "as lovely as Thorzain's victory was, defeating oGsMC and Fruitdealer, I think SlayersYugioh will best him in a Bo3 in a few months time." Do you think ANYONE would have said "well, Naniwa may have won MLG Dallas in the most convincing fashion ever, and came 2nd in tsl, but I think CheckPrime will dominate him easy in a few months time." After the amazingness of gsl wc and tsl3, people were saying "do Koreans actually practise?" "I don't think there is much of a skill gap if any at all." Even Mc praised Thorzain as being superior to the Korean Terrans, a statement clearly not the case atm.

Foreigners need to adopt Naniwa's attitude (as well as Huk and Jinro), because this isn't Halo Reach, where the bonjwa team that hasn't lost for months practise together for 3-4 hours a day and call it hard work.
