As it turns out, the last thread was a total disaster (all my fault), so I'll just give you ONLY the summary of the article. :/
ANIBOX, the anime channel that has exclusive rights to broadcast GSL matches live on television in South Korea, just got an approval from its parent company, Daewon Broadcasting Corporation to change its main genre of broadcast from anime to gaming.
This makes ANIBOX the third gaming channel in Korea, other than MBC Game and OnGameNet.
This also makes ANIBOX the only game channel in Korea with true HD broadcasting capabilities.
ANIBOX is available on most major cable and satellite TV service providers in Korea.
This means more Koreans can experience the awesomeness of SC2 on their smartphones, tablets and TVs.
+ Show Spoiler +The future of SC2 in South Korea has never been brighter.

What's the viewership of Anibox compared to Ongamenet and MBCGame?

Definitely less than the other two, since ANIBOX only broadcasts reruns of One Piece, moe shows on late night, and GSL matches live.
And ANIBOX cuts off the GSL broadcast when it goes over the given time slot.
Now they will focus more on games in general rather than anime, I guess.
But the important thing is that now we have a game channel that supports SC2.

Yes. But not right now.
The paperwork is almost done.

WOW you are awesome for sharing all these articles haha
Sad though, no more anime?! Well there are probably many more anime channels I guess...
But hurray! Another game channel!
lol the "ani" in "anibox" won't mean much anymore i guess xD
that sort of sucks for any fans of the channel too, for it to completely switch
For example, why not have just kept anibox and made another channel, unless maybe their previous structure wasn't getting enough income?

I'll be posting a lot more stuff from Korean communities.
We're a hilarious bunch, you know.
Stay tuned!

This also makes ANIBOX the only game channel in Korea with true HD broadcasting capabilities, and the only game channel who is more sympathetic to the competitive SC2 gaming scene.
Nice. That's pretty big. Guess they have some confidence in sc2 if they are intending on switching their whole programming around.

Can't believe no one has brought this up yet, but what are they going to show when there's no GSL game? MBC/OGN have other games and variety shows to fill in the other time slots. Reruns of games over and over?
|
Is Anibox a known channel with significant viewers? I've never heard of it before even for anime. It's great that they're switching their focus to gaming, but it seems like a pointless thing to be excited about unless they have resources and eyeballs.

Man that channel is close to my username.

This is big.

If i understand this correctly, ANIBOX likes the SC2 viewer numbers enough to switch to gaming fulltime? That's freaking huge!

Blatantly false, fyi. It's not even in the article. Don't add stuff like that please.

Can you please stop spewing bullshit on the forums and make assertions based on your own little biases from reading netizens on PlayXP? You are ridiculous.
No, Anibox isn't the only channel that is sympathetic to the sc2 scene. OGN was going to broadcast GSL at several points until they got held back by KeSPA. OGN even had their main set of casters preparing to cast SC2 games ffs.
The only reason why OGN/MBC can't do anything now is because Anibox has an exclusive contract with GOM.
So it has absolutely nothing to do with "being more sympathetic". The phrase isn't even with the article. Why would you add that? And why would you respond with the most retarded remark ever?
|
Would GOM (they have the rights right?) let OGN/MBC broadcast SC2 now? Sorry not familiar with the companies.
