Switching it up: HALF LIFE 2!!!
Available on demand:
Risk Day 1 Day 1.3 (shorter) Risk Day 2 Risk Day 3 (sametime risk) Risk Day 4 Risk Day 5 (sametime risk)
Hello! I decided to share something with the community that I really enjoy... and that is Risk, the board game! No, I am not making a thread to talk about the risk associated with having a stream. Ironically for me, there is some risk so I will be using a voice synthesizer to mask my voice (lol).
Anyway, in a few minutes I'm going to be streaming (and somewhat commentating) me playing Risk II, the official computer for risk from like a decade ago. I am going to play in tournament mode against the computer and see how far I can get.
My goal is to get other people playing with me... if you are interested in getting involved let me know.
The version of risk I am currently playing through this software are:
- Classic Domination
- Capital Risk
- Mission Risk
- Sametime Risk
I'll be glad to answer any questions you have here about the versions of risk or the stream or what have you. I am kinda new to streaming so I probably won't be following the stream chat if you try to talk to me there... sorry but hopefully I'll get better at this!
Disclaimer: I am a self-proclaimed grandmaster of Risk. No actually I'm not that great (I don't think) but played this computer game a bunch in college and got nostalgic to play it again! I think you'll find I'm better than your average casual and I'll try to offer some advice as I play or eventually answer questions. If you are a top masterleague or grandmaster risk player let me know as you will be a valuable resource (and will probably crush me once we get pvp games going).Last edit: 2011-11-16 08:42:50 |

| YES! Risk is my all-time favorite board game second to Chess. I can't be involved, unfortunately, but I hope you have a great time while streaming. |

| Man, I remember playing it a long time ago with my family. We were borrowing the game and my brother decided to copy the board on some big, thick paper. Those were the times... |

Blue and Green were just too strong for you, eh? ^_^
And that voice synthesizer is pretty cool: "Wanted criminal plays Risk II on stream". But that + the glitchy sound make it somewhat hard to understand you at times...at least for a non-native speaker like me. |

| I don't understand why a voice synthesizer would be necessary, Micro. Do you not want people to know who you are? If so, why does it matter? :x |

Yeah green screwed me over big time round 2 lol
I'm using the synthesizer because ideally a fair amount of people will be watching this and I don't want my real life identify linked to my online one... all it takes is for one person to recognize my voice and everything I've ever done under the name micronesia becomes linked to my real life identity... including every time I've used an "inappropriate word"... I don't need someone who's mad at me for whatever reason printing out a transcript of things I've said online under an alias... ._. Sounds paranoid but I know a couple of people who got screwed because of it.
btw: I'm going to get the settings better hopefully so that it is easy to understand and not annoying... today was just a test run.Last edit: 2011-07-14 05:13:04 |

| Such a baller game... you've inspired me to go dig out my own disk from wherever it currently resides and teach Freire and Solignac a lesson or two. Maybe Wellington and Bonaparte too later if I'm feeling ambitious |

I don't think anyone would recognize your voice unless you are some kind of rockstar or something similar. And even then, I doubt people would care :S Well, in the end, it doesn't make that of a difference anyway, unless you are impossible to understand which wasn't the case, even with the glitchy sound. And if you are feeling confident and are happy with the settings, then it will probably lead to a better viewer experience as well since you don't have to worry/care about the identity issue. |

| As I said you'd be surprised how big of a deal the identity thing can be. I know one teacher who was a big starcraft player and his students one year figured out who his online identity was... he never talks online anymore because anything he says can be printed out and given to his boss or whoever lol |

But regarding that teacher, what has that to do with his work? I mean, he can do and say whatever he wants in his free time. So why would anyone give something like that to the boss or some other person? And a scrap of paper is useless anyway, you would need to record the whole thing for it to be authentic. That also requires somewhat more effort and like I said, I don't see how it has something to do with work etc unless you call your boss or your wife bad names ^_^'' And that's not something you usually do. I just don't think it's an issue at all but maybe it's an American thing and I will never understand it. |

| For all we know micronesia could be BARACK OBAMA himself... So it's better to be safe than sorry. I had the board game but I would just use it as plastic action figures lol... I guest I might dust off this one to check it out and see if I can learn by myself |

Hahaha, that thought crossed my mind as well and I wanted to write it at first but then just went with "rockstar". And as I said, it's fine because it doesn't really matter. The rules are very simple. I played it 15 years ago and still remember all the stuff + micronesia will probably explain the game again when it's the first official run. |

The problem is this isn't a legal thing. It's the same as if a big-time politician was doing this stream, except on a smaller scale.
When you are a teacher you can't say/do things outside of work that would be inappropriate to say/do at work. Ridiculous? Yes.... but especially as an untenured teacher you need to be careful not to give anyone ammunition against you.
Of course you don't have to truly avoid doing/saying anything inappropriate so long as it isn't in the presence of anyone from work/school, and there is no evidence of it. Streaming and posting both leave behind a physical record.
The goal isn't to stop people from getting me into trouble... it's to prevent people from linking my online identity with my real life one to begin with (as I said another person doesn't post much anymore because they know anything they say will be looked at by their students). If you come to a tl meetup I'll hang out with you, but I don't put my personal info onto TL.
On Topic:
Also by request (lol) I put the... you know... link to the stream in the OP. You can watch today's test run (day 1) on demand. I hopefully will come back on in ~4 hours and do test run #2... by tomorrow hopefully I can do a solid run tournament mode and start to arrange for some LAN play.
BTW, suggestions for getting the word out when/what I'm going to stream? Not sure how to do it besides posting in this thread...
edit: I promise I'll get the voice to sound better for next time... that was pretty bad looking back at it lolLast edit: 2011-07-14 06:54:29 |
