Yeah, ladder ranking is all that people should consider when giving someone an opportunity to play on a team................. :o edit - Go SlayerS! And go BoxeR!!!!!!! <3
I personally am confident with the relatively higher skill level of the korean server that even before she received any training that she is as good or better than any other female sc2 player. Masters on sea or NA isn't all that impressive, not hard to match. |

| Anyone who claims they know anything about Eve's skill level just from her ladder ranking, or thinks they can criticise Jessica for protecting her player and her team... Disgusts me. Think before typing, children. |

tldr everyone elses reponses
I think this is a fundemental disconnect cultures between the west(especially the US) where we treat words as having little to no negative effects. We believe that free speech is more important that the emotional damage speech can have. I'm reminded of childhood saying(which im sure is untranlateable across the cultural divide) "Sticks and stones may break my bone but words will never hurt me". I'm of the very US opinion that you should never react this way to the speech of others however I do not begrudge her protection of Eve.
This whole episode seem to fall under the media darling phrase "cyber bullying" and may accually be actionable in certain US jurisdiction(although i doubt it these laws have been tested on appeal to the SCOTUS which the 1st admendment would win over hurt feelings unless the victim is a minor) |

| As a male, I cannot WAIT for Eve to train up and wreck her all-male competition. No shame in being beaten by a girl if the girl is on SlayerS. If anyone else said "Oh I'm just gonna take this Diamond player and make her a world-class nerd stomper," I'd be skeptical, but when Boxer and Jessica are on your side, anything is possible. | I can't believe all the hate this is getting. I personally thought it was awesome that Slayers recruited a girl, and that if Boxer lets her on the team she must have potential. Its shocking that people would do this, and I'm glad at least one total idiot is being held accountable for his actions. SLAYERS FIGHTING |

I think I read every comment in this thread, and I am really happy to see that 99% of this community supports at least some of the reactions taken here. I don't understand where juveniles think they can get away with all the rudeness the direct towards women online. It is becoming sort of concerning.
Also, in our team (gamersleague) we have recently aquired 3 girls, none of them are grandmaster league, but it gives me a lot of joy to see young ladies wanting to spend their time on something I have a passion for. It gives me hope for gaming future

I'm really sad that this kind of topic even has to be written. Some people seem to not have any understanding of others these days, especially on the internet, which is just terrible.
I want to apologize for any of us that have been harassing any member of slayers and I wish you all good luck in the future. |

We have always been believed in the Emperor, SlayerS, and your judgement. I think people forget that you are the velvet glove behind the iron hand. As an aspiring e-sports manager, I salute you. SlayerS Hwaiting!
Also guys, please not that this was talked about on SOTG by Artosis, who explained the situation briefly and felt that she wasn't over-reacting.Last edit: 2011-07-22 16:30:51 |

| Haters gonna hate cos that's what they do best, but SlayerS_Jessica you have my support! Female pro-gamers aren't unheard of, we had kelly casting GSL Code A (She was diamond in SEA at that time), we have Pikachu a Taiwanese Protoss (and also a celebrity) and now we have SlayersS_Eve... Goes to show how diverse the gaming community can be and yet all of us are connected by our love for E-Sports. |

| This is a case of affirmative action. Do we want diversity? Should we want diversity? I'm not so sure about the normative instance, but diversity is definitely desirable for esports as a whole. Female gamers will help increase the appeal of SC2, and may even affect social perceptions of gender and gaming. Half of the world is female, so who's to say that there aren't some prospective gaming prodigies from this demographic? I support Eve, and more specifically Jessica, for what she has envisioned for the development of gaming. |

I have trust in your choice of Eve, if Boxer saw potential in her then i'm sure she will do well if she works hard enough. Alicia was in diamond league when he got picked up by slayers, I see no reason for people to hate on Eve when Alicia was given the same chance she was given. The internet is simply filled with many unpleasant people and hopefully Eve will grow some thicker skin and not let the haters get to her.

| I have to question why Slayers management decide to debut her on GSTL. Did they not expect hate to be thrown toward Eve? She definitely does not deserve it but there are always going to be people with such hatred in their heart. Another question arises from this, which is, when is it a right time to debut a female player? I think it should be more than 'a month' of her training within Slayers and improving to a skill level that is respectable in the lower tier of SC2 progaming. At the very least, have her play some notable players within or outside the team and posting results, whether it is a win or lost. I don't mean to say that she should reach grand master and even master for her to prove herself, but with no results within the male dominant SC2 progaming scene, it makes her a target to many harsh and premature criticism. I personally am a fan of Slayers but what they did here was misjudged and could have actually been detrimental to a female joining the SC2 scene. Also, what Jessica is doing here is commendable, but could ultimately have been avoided. With all that said, I am actually excited to see the growth of SC2 to the point where a pro team have a female player. |

I really find it deplorable when people treat others this way. Such is the way of the Internet I suppose.
As far as her being a member of the team? It's not my business who joins, and who the let join. It's how they eventually perform that matters to me. Are they entertaining? These are the sorts of things that I personally care about for players. I don't have to like all the players on a team to like the team. I haven't seen her play yet, or seen her other than with her other team members. Who am I, or anyone for that matter, to judge her? It was obvious what SlayerS was doing when they brought her in. I just don't understand why people have such an issue with it. I always thought that our community was one of the more accepting and overall good communities online. It would appear that in the aspect of females being progamers I was mistaken.
Maybe it's just because I'm new to the scene with SC2, but I really don't understand the whole sexism issue that most people seem to have in the community.
Regardless, go SlayerS! And go Boxer! |
