| Cyber-bullying is just as bad or worse than bullying in-person. I support all efforts to eliminate all types of bullying, include the efforts by SlayerS_Jessica and SlayerS! |

I dont understand why she doesnt expect criticism when Eve was recruited partially for her looks and has the skills of an amateur, according to Jessica.
It's not the criticism that's the issue. |

I hope that this gets settled and the flaming stops, almost everyone on TL supports SlayerS and every member of it.
She's not being overtly dramatic. Jessica is speaking from personal experience.
This. She's a veteran of the entertainment industry. People are so ignorant. They don't give her enough credit for actually knowing the dangers of cyberbullying, especially in Korean culture. At first, I didn't think things through and worried about her somewhat, thinking she was being a bit naive, but with this clarification and upon further thought, I think that people dismissing her actions for being a big overreaction are truly the naive ones.
Then resolve it in KR. What does TL have to do with it...? |

why would you ignore important details just because they were made public through Twitter? that's pretty ironic considering you're also making your opinions public through an internet forum. Twitter is not less real than email or message board posts. |

Censorship offends me.
People should be allowed to harrass other endlessly. I agree that posting rude of offensive comments in themselves shouldn't be punishable but doing so repeatedly in a viscous manner, directed at a specific person through various media... yes that should have consequences and has nothing to do with censorship. |

Introducing Eve in the GSTL was good thing imo, encouraging female SC2 players is in no way a bad thing.
I support you and SlayerS. Gogo SlayerS! |

people in TL were thinking HER ACTIONS IN KR are "overreacting". as in the idiots here were saying that she was doing the wrong thing, when it is the right thing in KR, so she put up a statement here to resolve/explain this situation?

| Jessica, thanks for clearing the whole situation up. I always thought the OP of that post was a little biased. It makes me a little sad that mature members in the TL community kept on attacking Jessica and Eve for many hundreds of pages based mostly on assumptions and what the OP presented. |

Jessica felt the need to come to TL, because, according to her OP, Haeun_Cielu came to TL first giving his side of the story. And what do you mean, what does TL have to do with it? People are going to see the story regardless and make all these judgments about it, so it's natural that she'd want to clear things up on the biggest foreign community site. |

Sometimes I wonder why this dark side of humanity to essentially judge others prematurely, not give them the benefit of the doubt and without full comprehension of the situation and real life ramifications that occur due to it exist. It's something that just deeply saddens me.
That being said, Jessica, I respect the lengths that you would go to in order to protect one of your own.
Thank you for taking time out of I'm sure your busy schedule to explain this to us. Hopefully, this will weather itself down soon and hope to hear good things from Eve and SlayerS as a whole.
Best wishes.

Good that you are standing up for your players, but in the future - and this goes for everyone - please try to keep all the drama private. The SC2 and Esport scene should be about SC2 and Esport.

Cyberbullying is such a problem here in Korea, I don't believe Jessica's overreacting by taking measures to try to stop it. I would hate to be in Eve's shoes right now. As a woman, I really want to see female pro-gamers make it into the pro-gaming scene, instead of just doing interviews, reporting, guest-casting or show matches. While I personally would have liked to see Eve's skill that match instead of just her pretty face, I don't believe she would be on SlayerS if she had no potential. Maybe one day we'll get to see her play, if all this hate towards her hasn't scared her away.

There are cultural differences here certainly but with respect to the SlayerS team, good luck. Keep in mind that the angry tweets don't really mean much coming from foreign fans - most of us would rather see the drama end and we say the same sort of stuff to each other all the time. It's really normal and not such a big deal here, so try not to let them color your impressions of the fans too much.
Good luck to SlayerS, Eve, BoxeR, Cella, Jessica, and pretty much everyone else. SlayerS fighting! |

On July 22 2011 05:14 QuAnTuM314 wrote: You have my 100% support. I felt the entire post around the "over-reaction", and all of the hate that was directed towards Slayers_eve slightly humiliating to find within the supposed standards of Team Liquid. I'd always liked to assume that the user base of this website was above the standards of most internet gatherings, though I have to now admit that is only those noticeable posters on TL that give it its shine. I wish you all the best of luck in anything you can do to protect your team, and more specifically Eve. I really hope that this experience hasn't scarred her too much in relation to pro gaming, as there is no better place for her to improve and to create her own spotlight than with your team.
The TL response was quite mature. Yes there were some jokes but most of the discussion was serious and was about the place of women gamers (who are significantly worse than their male counterparts) within the competitive landscape. There wasn't any direct harassment or bullying, and the jokes were mild and the usual that most people get. Teamliquid is already heavily moderated/controlled (see SCreddit for an example of what the "real" population thinks, without TL mod's deciding what is/isn't allowed as a topic of discussion), so I don't see any reason for TL to apologize in any way.Last edit: 2011-07-22 05:35:23 |
