Seems okay from the first two episodes I've seen.

I'm watching Fashion King. Yoo Ah In is absolutely hilarious. Yuri and Shin Se Kyung are super hot. The only thing that bothers me is how Americans are portrayed (even though I'm not American, it seems sort of harsh lol) and how dumbed down the English dialogue is for the American actors (spoken slow and clearly, doesn't sound natural at all) though it is understandable since it is a Korean audience afterall.

EunHye was mega hot when she was in Baby vox, not so much in coffee prince and her face looked downright strange in Lie to Me. Awful drama btw, do not watch.

I wouldn't say it was the worst, it was even quite funny in places, it just seemed a little too familiar. Same story 1000 other dramas have pushed out through laziness. Eun Hye looked odd (I seriously think she has had some sort of botched surgery around her eyes/nose), the male lead was annoying. Dunno really, I generally don't agree with popular drama ratings, and Lie to Me seems quite well liked.

If I don't fancy the girl after a few eps I can't enjoy the drama. In other words, don't let my opinion ruin it for you.

I think Lie To Me was really good for the first half of the show but turned bad towards the end. And whatever weird looks she has, I enjoyed every drama she was in with the exception of Take Care Of Ahgasshi where she was given a role that absolutely didn't fit her.

Fashion King is really good straight off the bat. King 2 Hearts is interesting, looks like it'll become quite good as time goes on. Love Rain is unbearable to watch, and this is coming from a Yoona fan. It is really slow, like I've just spent 2 hours watching a guy mope around at his inability to speak more than 2 words at a time.

it was originally supposed to be 20 eps as well. real curious about what they would have done with the ending with a shortened 20 eps. it could have been muuuch worse

it's not so much about the ending of the show that I was referring to. I was disappointed in the direction of the drama for the last 10-ish episodes.
the entire premise of the show is a korean bastardization of the American Dream - work hard and with a little luck, you shall succeed; however the show kind of lost its direction as yoo bang found more and more success. the dilution of both the character and the plot was palpably disappointing.

the character development of the protagonist, the deuteragonist, and the antagonist was executed so well. it can easily be argued that making hang woo a perfect foil for yoo bang was a bit cliche, but it works nicely as the drama pits them against one another in a rather ruthless corporate world where the solutions to any problems encountered are judged consequentialistically. in the end, they are balanced out by yeo chi, who undergoes a tremendous amount of character growth to become a necessary bridge for both characters. speaking of her, I feel she occupies role of the traditionally cliche wealthy spoiled male contrasts well with the innocent/charming poor female. because their roles are reversed, it adds a different but familiar dimension to the story.

where I start to take issue, however is not all the cliches and shit, where that stuff is kinda expected for this genre of tv. there are so many things left unresolved at the end, such as hang woo's grudge with yoo bang, the eternal youth drug, yoo bang's parents, the financial state of chun ha, etcetc. furthermore, the original big hearted hero that we saw with yoo bang kinda fizzled towards the end. the entire point of the drama was to tell the journey of an average joe eaking out a life with a simple salary, and his experiences/virtues he acquires along that journey should be the focal point of his scaling of the corporate ladder. the entire drama had such a good message to deliver, and it kinda just flopped around as soon as yoobang started scheming to buy out chun ha. he kind of cheated his way through the rest of the show, and it even went so far as to giving off the impression that he didn't work for his position; the side effects of the eternal youth catapulted him into the front of the competition rather than hard work.

I think the worst thing the writers did was kill off chairman jin. I think I can understand where they're coming from as they didn't want hang woo to remain the show's foremost antagonist, but chairman jin filled a fun and wise niche in the plot. I would have preferred if they pretended to kill him off and have him mentor yoo bang behind the scenes, but completely eliminating the father figure for yeo chi while not really resolving the feud he had with hang woo's father (among other things) was frankly a retarded decision. it did nothing but advance the plot in a questionable direction.

I have a shitload of other things to nitpick but /rant. this show would've been so much better sighhh

kth #1 always. happy belated birthday to her \o/
lmj comes in at #2, hwang jung eum #3, yoo in na #4, and the rest can tie for 5th.

yes. but did you consider that what separates history of the salaryman from other dramas (and maybe from every drama ever before it) is that the action we expect to see, particularly from yoo-bang himself, is continually postponed while yoo-bang tries to obtain more certain knowledge about what he is doing? this drama poses many questions that other dramas would simply take for granted. can we have certain knowledge about ghosts? is the ghost what it appears to be, or is it really a misleading fiend? does the ghost have reliable knowledge about its own death, or is the ghost itself deluded? moving to more earthly matters: how can we know for certain the facts about a crime that has no witnesses? can hang-woo (or the audience) know the state of yoo-bang’s mind by observing his behavior and listening to his speech? can we know whether our actions will have the consequences we want them to have? can we know anything about the afterlife?

many people on soompi have seen history of the salaryman as a drama about indecisiveness, and thus about yoo-bang’s failure to act appropriately. it might be more interesting to consider that the drama shows us how many uncertainties our lives are built upon, how many unknown quantities are taken for granted when people act or when they evaluate one another’s actions.

the complexity of action

directly related to the theme of certainty is the theme of action. how is it possible to take reasonable, effective, purposeful action? in history of the salaryman, the question of how to act is affected not only by rational considerations, such as the need for certainty, but also by emotional, ethical, and psychological factors. yoo-bang himself appears to distrust the idea that it’s even possible to act in a controlled, purposeful way. when he does act, he prefers to do it blindly, recklessly, and violently. the other characters obviously think much less about “action” in the abstract than yoo-bang does, and are therefore less troubled about the possibility of acting effectively. they simply act as they feel is appropriate. but in some sense they prove that yoo-bang is right, because all of their actions miscarry. mo gabi possesses herself of the chairman position through bold action, but her conscience torments her, and she is beset by threats to her authority. hang-woo resolves that nothing will distract him from acting out his revenge, but he is easily influenced and manipulated into serving yoo-bang’s ends, and his crafty plan is turned back upon himself.

the mystery of death

in the aftermath of her father’s murder, yeo-chi is obsessed with the idea of death, and over the course of the drama she considers death from a great many perspectives. she ponders both the spiritual aftermath of death, and the physical remainders of the dead. throughout, the idea of death is closely tied to the themes of spirituality, truth, and uncertainty in that death may bring the answers to yoo-bang’s deepest questions, ending once and for all the problem of trying to determine truth in an ambiguous world. and, since death is both the cause and the consequence of revenge, it is intimately tied to the theme of revenge and justice—mo gabi’s murder of chairman jin initiates yeo-chi’s quest for revenge imo

LOL

yesterday I decided to watch the current 3 popular dramas, kings 2 Hearts first, love it... Fashion King is also very well watchable and I enjoy it to a certain extent Shin Se Kyung >> Yuri, but Love Rain, only watched 30minutes and had to cringe 10x already, still don't know if Jang Geun Seuk is a dude or a girl and it doesn't help that he portrays such a character

basically exactly what you posted.

Operation Proposal finished. Easily in my top 5. Seems Kdrama can learn a lot from Japan in terms of story lines.

lol @ tiffany cameo

imho, K2H so far has been a victim of its own success, the show has too much depth for a k-drama. it could easily boost ratings by giving HJW / seunggi all the airtime they need to cuddle but instead, they choose to focus on tough themes and developing a fleshy supporting cast.
