MAP OF THE WEEK RELEASE DATE: SOON
Map of the week is a project where map makers raise together a map called Map of the Week that uses the popularity of previous popular maps to help them to promote their new maps. The map changes to a new different map every week.
This project: - Unify the SC2 custom game and mapping community. - Create a motive for old mappers to come back, and new mappers to start mapping. - Allow for fun but hidden maps to be heard. - Create a much bigger diversity of maps on the first page.
If you want to officially support or if you made a map and you think it is fun to play, you can join us through the SC2Mapster official thread. There's more information on the thread below: http://www.sc2mapster.com/forums/general/general-chat/24201-official-map-of-the-week
The Map of the Week is an opportunity for mappers to promote their maps. Being featured on the top for a week might allow mappers to form their own community ready to play their maps when they finally publish them with their real name. Also, once Map of the Week gets popular (it will), many new mappers will join the project. That will make the mapping community stronger. Please, help us to promote this project. Players will love the Map of the Week because it's an opportunity to play different maps every week (pretty much like the Fun or Not system).
Ps.: The Mode will be the current map name.

Very nice idea
I wish someone would do that for melee maps as well.

Melee maps aren't popular enough to keep the Map of the Week at the top. But, maybe we can have a new iCJug map with the melee map on it.

I've suggested making it a weekly thing, but that really doesn't make sense for melee maps for several reasons.
- There is far less good melee maps than good UMS maps.
- Fewer people have a good understanding of what makes a good melee map. Instead of letting everyone vote for the top map(s), it makes more sense to have a judge's panel consisting of truly experienced players/mapmakers. The judging process is not a short one; it would probably take a lot more time to have to do it every week.
- MotM Competition is accompanied by a tournament. It is no small feat to get these casted by good casters every month, let alone every week.
- There is money to be won in the MotM competition ($25 for the winning map's mapmaker). IMO it's best if this amount of money is not split up further.
Sorta thinking out loud here, and I'm new to being a banling so don't be offended: I think advertising for something outside of teamliquid is discouraged. BUT I think it's not completely banned if you're a nonprofit organization. Also, it's not like you're advertising SC2Mapster (indeed you seemed to have tried not to on purpose). Either way, you're still contributing to the community, so I approve

Part of this doesn't make sense to me. Sure, there's a good handful of custom games/mods out there right now, but if you do this weekly, you'll hit a dead end eventually --- it's bound to happen.
.... then what? It takes a while to create custom games and mods, so holding it weekly would be put on hold for a long time to allow people to create new custom games, let alone balance them.
If you want to do a custom games thing, like MotM, try monthly.

What do you mean by dead end? We will keep rotating the maps we have on the pool and repeating them if necessary. The project started yesterday and we already have 10 custom maps. We have a lot of people to support the Map of the Week and not let it die, and we will get a way more people by the release date.

We already have 27 people officially ready to play and support the Map of the Week, and 17 maps on the pool. You can expect an official release date before we reach 100 members.
I encourage everyone who likes this project to please, join the official list. The list is useful because it gives me a way to contact each member. So, each member can receive an e-mail for the release date invitation. We plan on playing on the release date to make the MotW popular.

looks cool - if I have time I'll definitely play on MotW

That sounds amazing, I'll use it as soon as it is up and running.

Just for the record, this project is VERY much still active, and we are looking for more supporters. If you are interested, check out THIS to be put on the official supporters list.
If you choose to be a supporter, you will be contacted by e-mail, PM, both, or any other contact that you provide and are willing to let us use.
Oh and we have gotten the maker of Mafia to agree to let us use his map as the first map, which will help a ton. But remember, for this to succeed, we need as much help as we can get!

Thank you TacoMan for helping on the ads while I'm terribly busy to open my Starcraft Thanks for the moderators of SC2Mapster updating the thread too!

We definitively need an SC2BW map up there. It's insanely good but not very popular.
