i thought valve locked interp settings not too long ago?

i always play[ed] with as low interp settings as possible and it very much made css playable. how anyone can play 'stock' css is beyond me, imo. how valve even began to think interp was in any way acceptable in the first place is just mind boggling.

Even 1.5 -> 1.6 was ridiculous.

Default interp in 1.5 was about as good as it got for online play (in terms of being accurate) and great on LAN too. Of course people set interp to 0 to abuse it, especially for awping, but that wasn't a flaw in the setting. Then in 1.6, they make default interp absolute shit and it actually allows you to shoot behind people (although people creeping slowly around a corner appear late), so you have to use 0 online to make it accurate (and ofc people abused it by setting it to .05 or .1).

what did they abuse exactly?

With 0 interp in 1.5 and .1 interp in 1.6, you can shoot behind people to hit them (that is, their character model runs ahead of the hitbox.) That obviously made reaction times quicker, and resulted in a lot of instakills as soon as you turn a corner, so leagues all banned it.

this is an advantage? this is very problem people complain about in css with stock interp; model is ahead of the actual hitbox so when people aim for the model, it registers as a miss. reducing the interp in css aligns the model to the hitbox

Up close it can be worse, but when you're AWPing it's an enormous advantage. That's why people use .05. It should still get you the first shot, but it doesn't make them too hard to follow up close.

I'd wager the majority of people who hit direct AWP shots on CTs jumping across double doors on dust2 (without aiming ahead and hitting them through the door) have interp set higher than 0. Occasionally you might be that fast, but even Markeloff (best AWPer in the world atm) aims at the door and not the crack.

the advantage would be for someone with a lower interp than .1. the other guy would be able to take the first shot because there are more packets being sent to him by the server

I don't think I've ever wished my opponent good luck prior to a game. When I play, I play to win. I hope every opponent I ever have is cursed with fucking terrible luck. I hope they're stuck playing underneath a stepladder with a black cat in attendance a

Yes, setting it to 0 chooses the best setting, which is why I said "set to 0".

Also, interp doesn't affect the number of packets sent or received from the server.

Unfortunately valve's inability to deliver what the real audience wants (cs 1.6), is going to be the killing blow for the game, in my honest opinion.

Let's be real, source brought nothing of value to the table as far as the game's progress as an esport is concerned, they retardedly dumbed down the gameplay, inflated the hitboxes, and were nothing but a cess pool of failed 1.6 players who couldn't hack it in a more competitive game, so they went to source. Nothing about that game is appealing to me.

I think that cs:go is going to flop, just like source did, and it's because valve panders to the source players that we have this divide in the community that is like a cancer on our community.

The only way to truly bring the game back to life is to simply forget that source ever even existed, just put it out of the development process as some kind of failed 3rd party mod, and listen to lurppis and companys feedback and work hand in hand with them to value the exceptional gameplay that 1.6 had, and destroy the embarassment that was source, once and for all.

I am constantly just baffled at how dota 2's development (mostly thanks to Icefrog), is going so smoothly, they arent messing with the gameplay at all, it's bascially a clone of dota 1, with updated graphics.

THATS WHAT WE WANT. How can cs:go's development be so drastically different, they know that source failed, so why would they even use it as a model, or its players for feedback? It makes 0 sense.

How the hell is CS: Source a flop? It pretty much tops Steam's "most played" list, 8 years after it's released. When will people start realizing that serious competitive gaming is a very, VERY small niche market, especially in FPS?

No, that would be 1.6. I believe Source has literally never topped 1.6 in active players.

it's because we're in south east asia. hardly any people in our region have keys so finding a game in non-peak times is fucking hard. and because it's auto-picking servers, there's no way to go on a us server or whatever. really annoying when 3/4 of the games you play are against bots

A small CS:GO tournament will be played today at the Copenhagen Games LAN, featuring four teams from 1.6 and four from CSS, if anyone's interested. The first round of play is about ready to start now.

Ty sir. Ugh already I'm getting nitpicky with the headshot animations. I wish they would just blatantly copy the hitboxes, headshot animations, and gun recoil from 1.6. At least for the popular guns, then maybe they could try to fix up some of the useless shit. God I want to play this so bad, I used to play 1.3-1.6 very competitively way back in high school and this is bringing back such great memories.

I think the ragdolls are really responsive compared to source. When you headshot someone with an AK-47, you can really see it because their corpse will fly back and do 3/8 of a backflip and you can clearly see blood on the wall behind them, lol. Game still needs adjustments to the recoil and netcode, but the hitboxes are pretty decent as far as I can tell.

Oh, and get rid of tracers and the dust from bullet impact.

Gonna be honest here, if you guys want to play a new 1.6 just keep playing 1.6. Nobody is going to miss some whiny americans from the game.

Also 1.6 never dominated when cgs was on, source players were always the ones on top, and as i remember col went back to 1.6 to be the mediocre team they always were. Seriously, this is why europeans are so good they dont whine they take action.

He never said anything about 1.6, it was about source beign on steam most played games since the game camed out, oh and guess what, the numbers of active players are very close since some years now. Not to mention 1.6 probably has the little edge because its still big in europe.
