Raynor won't die. Narratively, he's too important for the Terran race; Mengsk, the Confederacy and the UED are kind of interchangeable, but the Terran race doesn't make a lot of sense without Raynor.
How about in Legacy of the Void? SC3 could be continued with characters like Kerrigan, one of the Mengsks (either one, Valerian's death would be a nice hint of tragedy), Artanis or Zeratul. We just need to keep Kerrigan alive because there's really no other Zerg main characters at this point. Or take a page out of Valve's book and never get to 3, and just have them all die in LotV.
The only way I see Blizzard killing off Raynor is if they previously give more protagonism to Matt Horner or some other possible leader of the "good guys" in the Terran race to take his place. I like the lore of Blizzard titles in general, but I feel ol' Chris Metzen can be too predictable at times, and based on the kinds of things I've seen them do before and what we've seen of SC2 so far, I'm positive that Raynor will stay alive for now

Predictable and safe. Obviously, I wouldn't want random deaths, but imagine if Metzen had found a way to write a compelling version of WoL where Raynor dies at the end of that chapter. |

| Well, Metzen did design SC1 and WC3, and those two didn't exactly have happy endings. At least each one had a decent amount of character death in it. |

activision doesnt control blizzard, i could definently see a "rocks fall everyone dies" ending for LoTV and end the story, or possibly pull a final fantasy and have SC3 take place in the same universe with same races but completely unrelated to the events of the koprulu secter |

honestly i feel like this would be the best route to take.. I really won't be happy until everyone dies and some interesting (i.e. not the 'dark voice' stands upon a pile of smoldering corpses.. but i don't want the series to end, so this is the next best thing! |

| They won't kill Raynor off and even if they did it would be in LotV, not HotS. I think Arcturus is 100% dead and it'll probably happen in HotS ending (Not like that leaked ending which made no sense though). |

I sure hope they don't kill off Raynor, but even if they do I'm sure you're right that the series will go on. After all IMO its the best gaming series of all time.

If I was one of the writers*, I would kill Jim Raynor in one of three ways:
a) Accidentally stepping on a spider mine in the Hyperion's armory while saying something silly to Rory.
b) After deciding to act like Captain America and pilot a viking, he would change it to ground mode and end up crushed in the process.
c) Accidental slip in the bathtub.
But of course, he should be dead already, because he was dumb enough to land on a planet who's star was going nova.

Me? I agree with the adjectives you crowned WoL with. But you forget that Blizzard knows what people thought of WoL and they will at least try not to do the same mistakes. |

I've played both the WoL campaign, the original Starcraft campaigns, and the Brood Wars campaigns several times each. I like the WoL campaign a lot better than its predecessors. Just like how BW fans used vomit hatred and contempt all over SC2 because SC2 is not SC1, do you really feel the need to take a piss on things other people genuinely cherish?
It's fine if you think WoL's campaign is "hollywoodish and childish"; you're entitled to your opinion. But going on to ridicule Jim Raynor and continue to state what "a big joke" the story is just for the heck of it is in bad fucking taste, especially on this site. Please tone that down. |

I've also played the campaigns several times. I love Starcraft and I think that the multiplayer is really good; that's why I'm here. However, I didn't ridicule Jim Raynor, not more than Blizzard did.
For me, it's very frustrating to look at this amazing and rich universe,full of possiblities, that is the world of the starcraft, and then looking at the underwhelming and uninspired story that was delivered. I cannot be satisfied with that. Let me also add that for me, the BW plot is also not very good, specially due to all the unlikely and unrealistic alliances.
Other than that I didn't meant to offend anyone, you are obviously free to enjoy the story.

| kerrigan getting a ghost suit and the hydralisk emerges from the ground was both in the leaked ending. blizzard's stories died with wc3tft. i am so sad, diablo 3 and sc2 story could have been much more epic. Blizz hire me, ill write for you! |

blizzard's stories died with wc3tft
Its sad but I kind of agree, WC II and WC III where great story telling TFT began to suck and then it was a huge spiral downwards with WoW. WoW who was so poses to be a (MMO) Role play game simply lived of the story that was previously generated and when they added something new it was like what the fuck ?
Diablo in my opinion never had this great lore but I always enjoyed the great rendering sequences.
The Tyrael fighting with Baal and diablo sequence would be in my top 3 gaming video sequences off all times. <3
As for SC II I never really got in the story of SC I or BW and the story of SC II was to shallow or none at all really... |
