Have you ever wondered how many hits it takes a zealot to kill a spine crawler? Or how many mutas you need to kill a tower in two volleys? How about upgrading you corruptors to kill a colossus - worth it? Not even how many siege tank hits it takes to kill an immortal? How many +1 banelings kill a planetary fortress?
Well if you said yes to any of those I have spent the last 3 days making this excel spreadsheet that does all that work instantly for me. At first I was just going to make a simple calculator for myself but the final product ended up being so much deeper so I figured I made it look nice and to make it public.
http://www.mediafire.com/?d1909gjnizq7u8h To download the excel file. (This file does not work properly in google apps.) BECAUSE OF POPULAR DEMAND I HAVE ADDED GUARDIAN SHIELD OPTION
http://www.mediafire.com/?on6g6kgdsap24to If you want unlocked sheets and .xls format. Not sure it all works in the old format but first impressions seemed ok. You might need this is you are opening this file with really old excel or other spreadsheet programs like open office.
Yes it calculates immortal shields correctly Yes it uses ground dmg from battlecruisers vs colossus Yes it gives 20% bonus damage when Void Rays hit a massive target and has 2 modes for charged and uncharged Yes it has 4 different modes for the marine depending on shields and stim
p.s. If someone has the knowledge and time to make the calculator work properly through a browser send me a line at arkonor@gmail.com

what about splash damage and ling surround?
|
wow it looks really awesome but if it had a guardian shield option it would be perfect
thx alot ^^

I was JUST wondering how many dark templars it would take to kill a PF, then I saw this thread. It would be cool if you could make something to calculate which would win depending on how many there were, or how many units it would take to kill the other unit (ie 6 DTs are needed to kill a PF (assuming detection and no repair))

I put that in and it shows it takes unupgraded DT 36 hits or 60,8 gameseconds to kill a planetary.
You can do the rest in your head really. Lets say you want it dead in 10 seconds you see you need 6 dt's to do that if they are unseen the full 10 sec and noone dies.
But yeah complex combat scenarios with multiple units and possible splash damage like from planetary is not something you do in excel
What this does though is to give you correct information to work with while you think up new strategies.

Awesome, but its uses are quite limited as no one will ever have an army consisting on x unit, everything will be hit by different units

That is not the purpose of the spreadsheet.

This is fantastic. Thank you.

Wow, props for taking all the time to put this together. +1 internets for you, sir!
|
great job man really imprressive
|
can finally satisfy my curiosity outside a unit tester, thank you
|
really love the bottom line
|
I'd also love if you could somehow activate/deactive gs of the sentry in some extra option.
Nice work overall. :-)
|
I will check how complicated GS option would be

Cool it works. What an awesome way to contribute. This is a nice little tool but I have only ever wondered. Never thought of practical application.

Since this is made for Excel it should work in OpenOffice too, right? Perhaps I'm just dumb, but I can't figure out what I need to open for this to work in OpenOffice and I'd like to give this a try! Any help would be appreciated. ^_^

It might be because of the sheet lock I set to make it feel less complicated to use. Here is a version without sheet lock and for old excel .xls style. It says there might be features not supported but from what I saw it seemed to work fine in the old format.
