California. USA – 8th August, 2011 - Razer, one of the world’s pioneering supporters of e-Sports, and Team Reign, a US-based star-studded Starcraft II roster, form a union to raze the competition and claim international victory.
Team Razer will aid the new Starcraft II line-up with professional gaming-grade hardware to enhance every player’s tournament prowess. This line-up includes team captain and veteran Brian “Spades” Francis, MLG double silver medalist and former Warcraft 3 pro-gamer Jonathan “KiWiKaKi” Garneau, stoic MLG performer Paul-David “SLush” Page, former fOu member and previous Brood War semi-pro Jo “Artist” Min Ho, and recent WCG qualifier Andy “giX” Benson.
Team Reign aims to bring an extremely high level of dedication to the international Starcraft II competitive scene by modeling their training after that conducted by professional South Korean teams – by placing Team Reign players in a pro-team house maintained by VT Gaming LLC. The pro-team house is scheduled to open later this year.
“High quality gaming products and support for competitive gaming stands Razer out above all other peripheral companies. With Team Razer, we will create a highly focused training environment to give us the edge needed to compete against South Korean professional players. It’s a personal pride for me to be a part of the Razer family,” said Frank “Mirhi” Fields, CEO, Team Reign.
"I started using the Razer Diamondback many years ago and I've been hooked on Razer products ever since. Now, faced with the opportunity to partner with Razer, I am overjoyed that my favorite hardware maker wants to support my team. Until you use peripherals truly designed for gamers, you'll never realize the competitive edge you can gain from them,” said Brian "Spades" Francis, team captain, Team Reign.
“Razer is in the business of pursuing and cultivating gaming excellence. And in Team Reign we have found an exceptional talent pool of battle-hardened veterans on the North American Starcraft competitive scene,” said Robert “RazerGuy” Krakoff, President, Razer USA. “With their combined experience and serious training plan, Team Reign is going to stake their claim in national and international tournaments, and we are delighted to support them on that mission.”
About Razer: Razer has been a pioneering supporter of e-Sports since its conception. It is in our blood and we are driven to further the culture of professional gaming in all that we do. Congrats Reign! Thinks starting to come together

anyone know if this is just a hardware sponsorship (like fxo has) or is it a full sponsorship.

Nice, grats frank on making this possible.
|
But yea they sponsor like 17 teams nine of wich i know have starcraft divisions , this doesnt include reign either , so now 10 sc2 teams.
It just seems like instead of backing a few teams they really beleive in(and giving them alot of support), they are backing any team they can get their hands on. I know for at least a few of those teams its just hardware sponsorships though (wich isnt really much to get a razer logo on the teams jersey)
Anyways congratz to Reign, im not trying to undermine the sponsorship or anything i just find it strange that 1 company can back so many competing teams lol.
Awesome news for them 2 huge sponors in 1 week.
|
I dont understand why people are bitching about their sponsorings? They are atleast making their brand to be heard IN WHOLE COMMUNITY and it works! GJ to ReIGN and Razer! : )

Awesome news for them 2 huge sponors in 1 week. Well, why not? Adidas, Nike etc. sponsor shoes for competing teams and that's not an issue, why should this be?

They're the Nike and Adidas of esports. Everyone needs equipment, so everyone who is anyone is going to need a peripheral sponsor (Steelseries, Razer, Thermaltake, etc). For the companies it benefits them just to have their products get maximum exposure to the audience.
