See the general nutrition thread.

http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=261918

Weight loss is about 80-85% diet.

Also, barbells would be preferable to have exercise that would stimulate muscle mass if you can access to them. What DB weights do you have?

If barbells are better I could use those, was thinking about buying some equipment this weekend.

Gonna use some of the stuff in the nutrition thread too.

How inaccessible are gyms?

I've been trying to do SS stuff with a barbell at home, and have come to the conclusion it would be better to go to a gym.

It's better to buy equipment if you have the space for it than to go to a gym.

300 lbs of weights + barbell and rack costs <$300 on craigs so if you use it for 1-2 years you get it payed for fairly easily.

That depends on where you live. For froadac out in california, I assume craigslist is pretty effective. For me, I would have to buy new... and a new power rack and 300 pounds (plus, bc my deadlift is about to break that) is a little ridiculous (thousands of dollars). Someday when I am an MD I will have a home gym, and my son will learn to power clean shortly after he learns to read.

Personally, I go to the gym because my friend goes, and I need him to spot me when doing squats and bench as I usually put enough weights to barely lift the last rep. Although there are tools that can "spot" you like the ones on the squat rack, I like to finish the set with a little bit of assistance than not getting the 5th rep at all.

Psychologically, working out at the gym pumps me up because of the number of people who frequent our gym. At least that's how I feel.

No one can answer this question for you. You have to find out what is available to you and judge for yourself.

Personally I like contrast showers (2 mins hot 2 mins cold 2 mins hot....) after a workout, and cold showers in the morning. I reserve Hot showers for that Friday night after a really long week, just before I'm about to go out and have some fun.

This is basically my daily breakdown for the past few days since i started using fitday (awesome website btw) so far, does this look 'right'?

How many carbs should i eat daily to maintain a low carb diet? I've been searching google but I see things all the way from 120 to 20. I figured some of the experts on TL might have better sources.

Sorry for all the basic questions, I'm really new to this health thing (as in haven't cared until a few weeks ago for my 18 years of existence lol)

Wow. What have you been eating? That is amazingly high fat.

You are indeed very low carb atm though.

How are you feeling?

According to the info on fitday all of the fats are from olive oil that i used on salad dressing >>, its like 20g of fat per 1 tbsp of the stuff aparently.

I want to say like, I feel amazing all around since I started eating healthier/exercising regularly.

Its kind of hard to describe, but I want to say that basically before I started dieiting like 3 weeks or so ago, I felt lethargic and nasty all the time. Now I feel like I feel like everything comes alot easier, including small things like just walking and even breathing. Not sure how to explain it lol. Basically feel like I have alot more energy/drive to do things than before.

low carb is maybe <50g/day.

But you have one crucial thing wrong: your total calories is waaaaaaay to low. What you are doing is called starvation and is never good in the long run.

How much do you weigh now? 200 something?

You should be eating at least 1500-2000 calories per day. Not healthy to super starve...

Although since you have a lot of extra energy in your body you can probably do it for a while but you'll probably plateau out pretty fast. I would suggest upping it to at least 1500 kcals

Alright I have a question about training. I started running over the summer and did some nice medium-long distance runs about 20-30 minutes a day with an hour of walking. This went on for a good2 months where I would run atleast 5 days a week. I felt like I was in great shape, as school started about a month and a half ago I was able to run less and less, about twice a week, and lately once a week.

(I'll try to cut down on the context lol this is getting long). Essentially the gist of it is, last week in my phys ed class, we were doing high intensity interval workouts where you push for 40 seconds, and active rest for 20 seconds, repeat three times, then move to 30/30seconds and 20/40 seconds.

I was pushing really hard for the intervals and after the second twenty second interval I threw up.
4 weeks ago I was running 3k in my cooper test. I've been running about a day a week since. Did I fall out of shape that fast or is it just that pushing very hard will get you to throw up no matter how good shape you're in.

Thanks for the help in advance I'm not exactly a fitness buff but I was quite worriedabout these results so i'm asking to see if I should MAKE time in my schedule to get some running in :D.

Hmmm.

Well, as long as you're not feeling hungry let your body be your guide I guess,

Just make sure you're drinking enough water and getting enough vitamins and minerals (you should be able to pull that list up in fitday as well).

Fitness gains depreciate pretty fast with inactvity. 1-2x a week may be fine to maintain strength gains, but cardiovascular adaptations will start to go away.

So yes, you can fall out of shape pretty quickly.

Intervals are a different type of exercise though so it may just be you're not used to higher intensity exercise.

Would it be OK for me to do SS, and various work outs such as weight lifting with my huge growth spurts? I'm 15 and since this time last year iv'e grown 7 inches, and most of it has been within the last 4 months. Someone told me (can't remember who, might have been the doctor) that it isn't smart to do heavy work outs while in growth spurts because it can screw up the growth spurts and cause my growth to screw up. Any comments? (i'm 5'7.5 and 110, really wanna gain weight for soccer)
