Hi everyone high diamond Protoss here.
I would like to share my custom hotkeys with the community and especially my struggling brotosses. Since the change, my apm and wins have increased tremendously. Hopefully i will be in masters soon!
Btw, i watched huk's stream the other day and he still use the default hotkeys!! With his probe and warpgate i didnt see his robo and sg . Its so unconvineint imo. Here is mine:
Camera
F1- F8 ~ (base camera cycle) Z (idle worker)
Control group
1 - main army 2 - anti air / map control squad 3 - spell casters 4 - nexus 5 - robo 6 - stargate 7-0 warp prisms and obs (this is all personal preference but i set up my other keys accordingly)
Nexus
E probe R chronoboost (since 4 is nexus and e , r is rite below as probly the most used buttons)
Probe Only major change here is build pylon is B-B since its used extremely often.
Warpgate
W select wg Q ht A zealot S stalker D dt E sentry (as u can see all 5 buttons surrounds W)
Robo
E ob R warp prism T immortal (default is "I" seriously? Lol) G colossus (5 is robo so they right below)
Stargate
E phoenix R voidray T carrier (same concept and then i want to strike 4-R to chronoboost asap)
Others
E ground attack upgrade C hallucination Q patrol (no P is too far away!) E ob speed R prism speed
I think this is it. I dont have my computer right now, but yea tge idea here is to keep everything on the left for easy acces, and therefore faster mechanics as protoss already have the least hotkeys i would luv to hear back from you all regarding this topic including other races. (I set up zerg larva hotkeys surrounding "S" but i suck wit zerg so bad lol) good luck and have fun gaming. |

I only changed 2 hotkeys in my game one was guardian shield cause i used to hit G instead of F to forcefield which lead to some rage changed that to Q and idle workers to ~ cause i use F1 for base cam.
Honestly the only reason i don't do more custom hot keys is because im to lazy and i have already engraved the other hotkeys into my brain.
But yours make a lot of senseLast edit: 2011-09-26 05:05:26 |

I just don't understand this idea that changing your hotkeys will suddenly somehow make you better......
Hotkeys I honestly think will never help or hurt your play. |

| Only thing that I'm a firm believer of doing is changing all the hotkeys that you don't currently already have ingrained into your head to Grid style hotkeys, IE, if I didn't know Ground Weapons was normally G or whatever, I'd change it to be Q. Same with changing "I" for immortal over to E. Makes things more streamlined immediately. |

For anyone who has ANY difficulty pulling off the mechanics of keybinds as they are, benefits can be obtained from customizing them. My play has improved by leaps and bounds since changing mine. I no longer expend time or effort into moving my hand around. I think it, I do it. Actually, I find myself often thinking in my head the keystrokes required in my system, as I watch pros play, without meaning to.
Frankly, I think it would be scary to see someone really good at the game play with my setup, TBH.Last edit: 2011-09-26 07:31:22 |

Many Pros already use custom hotkeys and 'grid' like setups. |

Maybe this is true at the highest levels but you are wrong about it never helping. Changing my hotkeys immediately improved my game. I use an adapted version of a cartesian method that someone posted months ago. Among other things it made 1nexus and 2 build probe, so despite months of not making enough probes this fixed it immediately. So don't say things that you have no experience in. If these hotkeys helped you that's great |

Immortal -> R Group 0 -> ` (tilde). I use this group for an obs and I love it.
Regarding army groups, it completely depends on what my composition is and how I need to fight. With colossus for example I'll have 3 groups, 1 with zealots/sentries/immortals, 2 with stalkers, 3 with colossus. More work to move things around, but far more control potential once you get used to it. You think that control-clicking those colossus' or stalkers is fast enough, until you put them in their own group. I've had zealot/archon fights where I've split up chargelots into 3 groups to target each enemy colossus. All depends how you want to fight.Last edit: 2011-10-15 22:39:12 |

I don't understand how you think your hotkey's are more convenient than HuK's. If anything, they are both inconvenient as you need to move your hand all the way across your keyboard for screen and control group keys.
I have ~ = Warp Gate 1 = Zealot/Sentry/Colossus/Archon/Immortal 2 = Stalker/Void Ray 3 = High Templar/Dark Templar 4 = Warp Prism/Observer/Phoenix 5 = Warp Prism/Observer 6 = Nexus Y = Gateways H = Robotics Facilities N = Stargates <space> = Forge's and Core's and I have backspace binded to my mouse for base cycling.
Wouldn't my way be more convenient than yours as, using grid, i barely even need to move my hand to reach every single hotkey i need?
