Mike Morhaim visited Korea last weekend to discuss more about the current situation with Beta and Real money auction regulations in South Korea.
Quick Synopsis of what he said:
About RMAH in Korea: - Blizzard is working to their best ability to pass the RMAH system in Korea. However, the Korean administrator is heavily against the RMAH system. The reason is because RMAH system has been tested in many other korean online games but apparently, it created way too many problems to handle.
About Beta - Mike Morhaim and the online technology director, Rob Bridenbacker told the press that they are not planning to hold the beta outside of NA. Korean press and many of old time Diablo fans have waited long for chance to play the beta, but after this announcement, many were quite dissapointed with how it turned out.
Korean Netizen Reaction on PlayXP:
"They are having some sort of grudge againts us because we didnt buy their sc2"
"Are they mad SC2 didn't sell in Korea?"
"SC2 looked bad and average, and D3 look average too..."
"Blizzard expected too much out of Koreans, everyone played and loved starcraft: Broodwar but look what happend to SC2 sales"
"Look at Mike Morhaim, obviously he looks very mad at the koreans"
"If they can't stop Starcraft 2 Maphack, there is going to be D3 bot?"
"It's their loss if they don't release, we are going to be have their majority of sales"
P.S - Also this confirms no invitation will be sent to EU

Also this confirms no invitation will be sent to EU weird... plenty of blue posts and official blizzard tweets confirmed that it's a multi-region beta, not limited to na. maybe a translation issue?
confusion commencing.

way to alienate the asian cashcow.

랍 브라이덴베커 온라인 테크놀로지 부사장이 "디아블로3의 베타 테스트 계획 중 북미 외 지역에서 테스트할 계획은 없다."고 선을 그었다.
Online Technology Rob Bridenbecker said "There are no plans to hold Diablo 3 Beta outside of NA"
if they could invite cross region, why wouldn't they invite Koreans?

The reactions are just dumb, why is there always news about "Koreans on internet forums opinions about <random topic>" It's no different then the opinion of any random western forum, some good posts, some bad, some trolls and some just plain dumb.

While I'm sure the quoted netizens are only a small representation of Koreans, they sure do sound entitled and bitter about not getting a beta. They also seem to be delusional in that they think SC2 failed because it didn't sell well in Korea. Also lol @ one guy thinking Korea would be the majority of sales for D3.
The most interesting thing about this imo is that it seems Morhaim let slip that there would be no beta for Europe, but that seems to contradict other sources.

I don't think it confirms anything. The beta is being played on the NA server, but invitations can go to anywhere (except maybe Korea?).
As for the Korean RMAH issue: I guess it can't be helped. If Korea has such weird laws that playing Diablo3 is considered gambling, I guess they have no choice but to remove the RMAH from the Korean version of the game.

Hmm weird, I should go report to Korean Netizen. If EU can hop over a region and play on NA, why cant Koreans? Seems very unorganized... to me
Can you name me some EU players?

I know that people were able to play from Korea during the media event. But what bugs me is that they only allow EU to be the exception of all other regions? How so?
Bugs/glitches get reported by admins from the respective region as they handpick them from the forum. language barrier is another excuse if that's what prevents long-waited diablo fans to try Diablo 3. http://kr.battle.net/d3/ko/forum/
EDIT: http://eu.battle.net/d3/it/forum/topic/2722993160 so. Italians also get in the beta?!

Whats the deal with Korea not allowing RMAH?
Doesn't Korea have dozens of 'free-to-play' MMOs already?

To be fair, not selling in Korea is like a sport not getting into the Olympics. Especially since it's "starcraft" 2, it was almost like 99% guaranteed it would sell well in Korea. That's pretty fail imo.

I like your analogy. For SC2 to have such low sale number in Korea is a great way to tell whether or not game lived up to SC:Brood War expectation.

I don't really like this thread. Why should I care about the hate speech on Blizzard coming from SK?
I'll take their opinions on SC:BW anytime, but not on SC2 and D3 if this is the best they come up with. Does this at all represent the SK attitude towards the new games?

This OP is misleading. It in no way confirms invitations will not be sent to EU, South America, Korea or Antartica. It means there will be no Beta based anywhere else but NA. From what every blue poster has said so far, people from all over the world will be able to join and play in the north american server, but they won't open any other server across the globe until release. Being based only on NA has no relation at all with how the inviting process will work.
|
the beta server is only hosted on US... beta testers will be from all around the world but they wont put up special servers for eu and korea.

How did SC2 vs BW pop up in a thread about the Diablo 3 beta? Stop it!
As others have pointed out, I don't think this limits who can play the beta. I think it's just a mistranslation somewhere along the line about the only beta servers being located in NA.

I'm playing in Korea if there's no RMAH ;D!
