| I'm really excited for Coyotes vs. Jets tonight. I'm definitely hoping for some Inception-esque team-franchise stuff. Are there any other instances of one franchise moving to the previous location of another franchise and using the old name? |

Nope. Closest thing to that is the Calgary Flames playing against Atlanta Thrashers |

Good old Atlanta.
As a Canadian, I always have to say how much I appreciate Atlanta. Atlanta's suckitude for hockey has given this great land to your north two more national hockey league teams, and for that we thank you.

Soft is the right word to describe them. Alex the Great has never really been much of team player in his entire career. Bruce tried to change the culture of the team and it didn't work. :/ |

I hope they continue to do well... as much as I have a grievance for their franchise, I want the Northwest to be the best division it can possibly be. Ask the Flames of the 80's, playing the best makes the best. As far as I'm concerned if it wasn't for the Oilers, the Flames wouldn't be the second best team in the era.
Having a strong Wild team as well as a strong Canucks team means a stronger Oilers team. <3
That being said, the Wild have absolutely atrocious boxcar numbers. Like, some of the worst I've ever seen: They have bottom five PP & PK, are bottom five in goals for, Average seven more shots for than against, and are bottom five in the league in blocked shots and hits.
To put it bluntly, the Edmonton Oilers were better in half those categories for the past couple years. Only thing really going right for this club is that they have the best Save percentage at even strength the league has ever seen with a remarkable 97.7% of all shots stopped; if the minnesota wild had an average even strength shot percentage they would have let in 74 goals at even strength as apposed to 34 (the lowest number in the league).
We are 30 games into the season sure, but the numbers don't add up. The Wild's season this year is a rather large statistical anomaly, to say the least. |

| I'm just happy their winning lawl. I don't really care about the statistics. As long as they win I'm happy. Any Minnesota team that wins I'm happy. However, I will always be a loyal fan even when they suck. |

If there is a God I'm going to hell because I have been nearby to a tv for every Leafs/Bruins game in the most random places and have been thoroughly disappointed each time
I came home and watched the Flames/Oilers and that was such a good game. Was hoping it would go into OT |

Well, it didn't seem like a good game to me.
The Oilers put out a pathetic effort. We tried to play pond hockey and just got pushed around.
We made this joke of a flames team look like the one that held the cup over their heads in 89. Not to mention, why the hell do they always get up to play us? All year that team has been nothing but passengers, and suddenly everyone is on board to play the Oilers....
FFS.

Edmonton/Vancouver/Calgary rivalry is a strong one. Even for the last two years the worst team in the NHL took games off Van/Cal.
Makes for very frustrating hockey though...I do wish Calgary would just roll over and die for us like they do everyone else |

Sorry for the slow update (if anyone even looks at the OP).
Looks like RNH is lighting it up for Edmonton now, tied for 5th in points! |

lolFlames, 'nucks seem to constantly have their number. Also with our lineup being: D. Sedin - H. Sedin - Burrows Higgins - Kesler - Booth Raymond - Hodgson - Hansen Malhotra - Lapierre - Weise
Hamhuis - Bieksa Edler - Salo Ballard - Rome
Luongo
I don't think it gets better than that for the Canucks when firing on all cylinders :O |

tbh I only came home in time to watch the 3rd period and if that's why all the hype of the Oilers is then I need to catch some more of their games. I was also dreaming of if the Leafs had only drafted RNH |

Come on Masamune, clearly Adam Larsson was the right pick!

I thought about digging up some of my old "ra-ra RNH is a boss" posts but I decided I am just happy he is playing so well.

So the NHL has announced some serious realignment. They're moving to a four conference system in which each team plays a home and home series with every team in the league, and then an inter-conference schedule. The top four teams from each conference make the dance and there is inter-conference playoff matchups for two rounds and then league wide reseeding.
I like it, reminds me of the old Divisions:
![[image loading]](http://i623.photobucket.com/albums/tt315/MatthewT_golf/map.jpg)
* New Jersey, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, New York Rangers, New York Islanders, Washington and Carolina * Boston, Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa, Buffalo, Florida and Tampa Bay * Detroit, Columbus, Nashville, St. Louis, Chicago, Minnesota, Dallas and Winnipeg * Los Angeles, Anaheim, Phoenix, San Jose, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Colorado
As an Oilers fan, I can't help but feel like despite the fact that the divisions are placed out very well geographically (aside from Florida/Tampa, trolololol) western teams still get shafted in terms of travel and worse yet have a 7% lower chance of making the playoffs just based on numbers because the eastern conferences have 7 teams where as the western ones have 8.
Travel this schedule doesn't really help the teams that have bad travel issues anyway. Personally I was hoping for a more fair North/South Conferences where every team had the same travel constraints, but oh well.
I also think that the red conference and green conference are heads and shoulders stronger than the blue and orange... but maybe thats an Oilers fans bias coming into play. Haha. God damn that division is massive and physical... my poor young Oilers...
-.-

The Conference Edmonton is in is absolutley retarded. Every single team in it is strong. Gonna make for some good games.
I like how the orange conferance is in two pieces, at east a little travel is need in the east. The
The travel issues western teams face cannt be fixed unless teleportation becomes a viable means of transportation. They should have made the western conferences the 7 team leauges so they get that advantage as some kind of compinsation for such shitty travel.

As a caps fan I like the realignment. no more people talking about the Southleast (even though it's really been pretty good over the decade), less travel, and so forth.
I'm curious how they're going to do the playoffs after the 4 conference champions are determined. |

Top 4 teams from each confernce play each other. 1v4 and 2v3 Bo7s. Then the winners play Then the last remaining team from each conference are seeded based on their record and the winners of those play for the stanley cup. Ends up still being 4 rounds but know we might have a "west vs west" or "east vs east" stanley cup final.Last edit: 2011-12-06 12:58:51 |
