Zach Kassian is a rookie and potentially a first line scoring power winger akin to Milan Lucic or Jerome Iginla. Cody Hodgeson is a 3rd line player, or a second liner on a worse team.... That was one of the best trades in Canucks history.

I acknowledge that Zach Kassian wont help them in the playoffs This year (where Hodgson may have) and there is no guarantee that he turns into a star... but by the way he dominates the minorss and the fact he hasnt seen any real playing time in the NHL so far. I think he will be a much more powerful addition to the Canucks in a couple of years and make them way better off in the long run

Hodgson 3rd liner? What?! There is no guarantee that Kassian would turn into a "first line scoring power winger" either...
Chris Bourque dominated in his first few seasons in the AHL, and guess what, he's still in the AHL....
Not to mention we haven't seen much of an offensive talented "first line scoring power winger" Kassian is yet.

Canucks need players that can substitute for Sedin's very soon, and trading off your best prospect that has proven himself for a player that hasn't proven himself and is not a "skill" focused player is a huge gamble.

One of the best trades in Canucks history? Are you kidding me? At the time of the trade:

Hodgson: Limited ice time on the #1 ranked team in the league
Kassian: Limited ice time on a team not in the playoffs; usually doesn't make the line up

Hodgson: On pace for 20 goals
Kassian: On pace for 13 points

Hodgson: A likely Calder candidate and valuable trade bait for the future
Kassian: People call him a young Lucic because he's big and Lucic also had a poor rookie season

Canuck fans are more delusional than Leaf fans if they think Kassian gonna be a top line forward.

Man Canucks should have really tried to go after Ott.

Conner Crisp is a center. The original goalie, Ramis Sadikov was injured 1:45 in when he was smoked by a forward who got 5 for charging and a game misconduct. The back-up was hurt on Saturday. So the Otters wrote Crisp, a player they planned to scratch, in the goalie position on the line-up card for the hell of it.

Crazy story lol

yeah i read about this the other day. dude got a standing o at the end of the game from the opposing crowd, and the other team hi5ed him and stuff

cool shit

also the rangers womped the B's, 1st place in the league woooo

Here is the video. I thought the story was cool and all when I first heard about it, but I was more disturbed by the 2 head shots that happened in the game (including the goalie run) after watching the game highlights. What's wrong with these kids?

Well, most of them know they arent good enough for the NHL on their skill so they are doing it the other route, by trying to become future enforces. So they have to play dirty and with an 'edge' so that old fossils who still put together teams based on slowing the game down and fighting will find them and recruit.

Old fossils like the entire league? Penalties are down to 2.5 per game the last 20 or so, and goal scoring is at the leagues lowest rate since 2003 with this years solid 5.4 goals per game.

Watch an NHL game, they don't call stick/holding infractions anymore for whatever reason. Very much clutch and grab era two. Penalties are at an all time low level they haven't been at in 40 years. That's a fact.

EDIT: Also known as some Oiler fan QQing that his team hasn't had a powerplay in the last three games... 2006 we get seven powerplays a game and can't score once, now we have the best powerplay in the damn league and can't get a powerplay.

>.<

Why do you think Boston won the Cup? Or the Rangers are number 1 in the East? And yes, most of the league is made up of recycled GMs and recycled coaches who like to ice goons for at least 5 minutes a game. There few teams are prepared to play Vancouver/Detroit style of hockey because that requires skill not only among the players but throughout the organization to identify the kind of players that can actually play that style. But look at Phoenix or the Blues. Why bother building a Detroit when you can just choke the neutral zone and clutch and grab to success?

Anyway, that is why the lower leagues like the OHL or the WHL are so violent. Kids down there know that very few of them have the skill to be a legitimate top line forward or a 3rd line two way forward so they are left with 4th line goonery as an aspirational role and since you dont really need to know how to skate or shoot or do anything except take peoples heads and act like a jerk thats what they practice.

If you really think that goonery and clutch and grab are the reasons these teams are having sucess you need to take your blinders off. These teams are sucessful because they have players that complement the system who are very good in their own right. If it were easy to build an elite defensive team, there would be 30 of them in the league. Some teams choose to build differently starting with the pieces and organization they have. It's not like playing sound defense is easy or something that's bad to do. Very few teams play the Vancouver/Detroit style, because it's very rare to find elite offensive talent that can play two ways. Not every team is blessed with those guys being availible to draft or are a destination that every UFA has on thier radar.

Obviously its hard to build a good team. But one brand of hockey is high paced and fun to watch. The other brand is having a bunch of guys try to slow the game to a snail pace while getting away with borderline stuff and rely on a super star goalie. Yes, both styles win lots of Cups. But only one makes it fun to watch hockey for a neutral fan.

Oh COME ON.

The best trade in Canuck history was getting Luongo for almost free. Because that year he actually played well in the playoffs.
A close second was getting Naslund for literally nothing.

Trading a potential second later center that is relatively slow for a question mark that only has his draft position and size going for him is nowhere close.

The only people who say that are stupid fans or clark macarthur, who is stupid and wont be in the playoffs in no small part thanks to how little he's done this season

it's also pretty apparent that you don't know what you're talking about either because the b's and rangers systems aren't alike at all. Rangers dmen pinch all day. when they're set up in their own end they are just among the best in the league and block more shots than pretty much anyone

Kronwall done murdered Voracek. Clean for once—he doesnt leave his feet, throw a bow or charge—but just fuckin brutal. Voracek also put himself there, looking right at him and still trying to finesse the puck around.

The refs are retarded for letting play carry on after he got smoked

Yeah, I agree.

I post a lot on SA's hockey thread. Most people are freaking about how dirty it was (part probably just because Kronwall has had a lot of stupid shit jumping headshots). This was not.

I just saw this in there though:

Per CSN Philly’s Tim Panaccio:

Voracek uncertain of status for tomorrow. They r watching for concussion. Says hit was clean and his fault

EDIT:

Also, from the Philadelphia Inquirer’s Sam Carchidi:

Voracek says he’ll know Thurs. if he can play. Sounded subdued. #Flyers
...
Voracek says it was a clean hit, the type that should not be outlawed. Blamed himself for having his head down. #Flyers

Either way, both of those trades were pretty ridiculous robberies and demonstrated very well why some GMs, the Ken Hollands of the NHL, look so good compared to their peers, the idiots who ok-ed those deals.
