Ok, how do you set it up so Dxtory doesn't record but it still shows up in xsplit? Honestly. I've spent like 5 hours trying to set this up and it still doesn't work.

Look at this picture: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewpost.php?post_id=11736809
On the right side, second box from the top - there you can set local recording on/off.

First read this (possible solution): http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewpost.php?post_id=12296945

If you bought the software or are using the trial, go post on the dxtory.com forum. This issue happens mostly to people that illegally downloaded the software though.

Can you tell me your performance numbers (FPS/CPU etc) without using DXTory?

Try creating a blank new Presentation - sometimes there's some "residual" scene items stock. You will be able to feel the difference if everything is setup right. If the input lag is still there afterwards, please check all the settings again, chances are you skipped something, ie. setting output to DirectShow only etc.

It seems that when I play on default, everything maxed, theres sort of a... i dont know, like i click a drone or muta to go somwhere, and it takes a split second longer than it shoudl for it to respond.

I set everything on medium, and played a custom game peep mode. It was okay, but that sort of delay existed. I put it on low, and it still existed but it was slightly better. It still existed though. The fps was around 40ish. Im wondering how to increase the fps and get rid of that slight delay.

How do I create a new presentation? I'll get the benchmarks for everything.

The input lag you refer to is normal while streaming. Some are more prone than others to be annoyed by it, most get used to it. DXTory removes a lot of it, but it can't remove all of it. IMHO it's bound to occur with your relatively slow cpu. My opinion is partly backed by your statement that there's a difference on different graphics levels - there really shouldn't be. It's actually not directly related to fps even though it may seem so.

To create a new presentation, you go to the "File" menu and select "New Presentation...".

Can you be a little more in-depth?

I hit new presentation, and now the settings I all set up, I can't find. Whenever I opened xsplit it would say "do you want to use old settings" and says stuff about presentations (ah, thats where I make new presentation), and when I hit new presentation, I cant find the old setup stuff.

And what do you mean "feel the difference". As in when I make a new presentation, it will feel better or worse if I set things up correctly that first time? I would figure you mean it should feel worse not set up correctly, but you go on to say that if there is lag (with the new presentation) then that means I set things up wrong?

I'm so confused. I'm just going to run through the settings again maybe.

I was just wondering if there was a way I could fix the situation though, like lower the resolution or some way to lower the stream quality or something to help with the input lag.

I have a issue streaming with xsplit and dxtory. I have a 5mbps upload speed and a i5 2500k. I have been playing around with xsplit settings trying to stream at 720p. I feel like I have a good enough processor and bandwidth to stream in 720p but no matter how much I adjust the bitrate, buffer and quality I still get choppiness in my stream. Occasionally the stream would be smooth for a few minutes in SC2 but once macro games begin to pick up with large armies battling, the stream starts to become choppy. And future games I play after the initial lag, my stream continues to be choppy even in the beginning of games. I can't access my specific settings now since I'm at the library at the moment by any help will be appreciated until I can post specific settings for xsplit and my pc.

New/Load/Save Presentation works just like a document in ie. Word. If you didn't save your presentation before making a new one, you can find it in this Registry key (HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SplitMediaLabs\XSplitBroadcaster). You need to do some copy paste in the "placements" values.

"Feel the difference" - I talking about the input lag, you will feel the difference if DXTory+XSplit is running correctly. To the better of course (that's the main reason for using DXTory).

I want to stream Counter-strike:source and I got 700 fps without xsplit and with xsplit I got 80. Dxtory works between but now I got a xsplit problem. How can a program give me 600 less fps without even broadcasting?

Because of the way screen capture currently works. There simply isn't enough power available (or reason) to grab frames that much faster than what your stream is going to contain. Even if you were able to do it, your stream would need a massive bitrate to contain the fps (~100+ Mbps). 60 FPS is realistically the currently maximum to stream in and that requires high end equipment and in depth settings knowledge.

Hey guys I'm new to streaming in high res.

My CPU specs:

mobo: intel x58s0
processor: Core i7 980x xtreme 6 core processor
gpu: geforce 460 1gb OC
ram: 6gb
HDD: dual 10k raptor in raid 0
PSU: 1kw pc power and cooling
ISP: 50Mbit down / 4Mbit up

Seems like I can stream fine in 1080p with my setup with the exception of some boxing? (don't know what else to call it) when scrolling around in-game for viewers. Basically when my screen is scrolling in sc2 or looking around relatively quickly in first person games the quality for viewers gets a bit boxy until the screen doesn't scroll too fast.

Question is, what settings in xplit/dxtory is would affect this the most? What do I need to upgrade on my end to improve this so its smooth? Is it a bandwidth issue/hardware/setting issue? I'd like to be able to stream in 1080p on pretty much max settings.

I suspect it may be a combination of my processor running at stock speed of 3.33Ghz (even with 6 cores..) and/or my VBV bitrate/buffer at 3500/3500 but can't be certain.

Any insight would be really appreciated

edit: also, anyone know why my xsplit hotkeys don't work? No matter what I set them to, hotkeys just wont seem to function. dxtory start video/stop video hotkey didn't work until I downgraded to v2.0.108 but ultimately fixed once I did that.. but no dice on xsplit. I'm using latest version of xsplit from their website. Quite frustrating not being able to switch scenes

In prioritized order: Bitrate, Preset and Quality is what affects quality of your stream. 1080p easily uses 4000+ kbps, so you are already limited on this. Second, use a slower 'preset' in your channel settings (slower than veryfast). This will improve the compression and potentially result in a better image. Since you CPU is pretty awesome I'd try the 'Medium' value - Monitor cpu usage and make sure it's not hitting max on any core. You could also try dropping the FPS (ie. from 30 to 25) to "convert" those extra frames into a higher average bitrate/frame.

As for hotkeys, try and "reset settings to default" in Options. If that doesn't help try a different key combination. If it still doesn't work please create a thread on the Xsplit forum and I'll escalate it to the developers.

Bitrate: Definitely limited in my upload speed, was contemplating upgrading to 100Mbit down / 10Mbit up, I'll have to live with 50Mbit down / 4Mbit up for now. Thanks for the advice here
Preset: Will try out different preset settings as advised, however, my CPU load (from the limited monitoring I have done), pretty much never hits anywhere close to max capacity on any core.
Quality: I have experimented with different numbers but couldn't see any noticeable difference in the viewer side results.

As for hot keys, I have tried different combinations of keys and it doesn't seem to do anything. I will try restoring default and mess around with it some more.

Thanks

EDIT: Hotkeys: Hotkeys seem to work if I do not select shift as an option. CTRL and ALT seem to work fine. For example: Shift(CHECKED) and hotkey NUMPAD 1. Once I apply settings, SHIFT + NUMPAD 1 does not do anything. However, if I use the setting just numpad 1, it works fine.

Hello, I just bought a new i7 2600 3.40GZ 8GB RAM Nvidia 560GTX, I am currently at my folks housesitting where they only have 1MB upload, at my own place I have 2.5MB upload but can only test that in two weeks and I'm trying to stream now.

I'm loving dxtory, don't have to play windowed and performance ingame stays the same as without streaming - while xsplit just destroyed my fps, but even with dxtory my stream quality looks very choppy and pixalted though whenever I move. I really hope you guys don't mind I'm asking for help to try and stream that other craft game from blizzard and this seemed like the best place :x

Do you guys think this is just cause of the low upload speed here? I have used all kinds of quality, upload and buffer settings and it stays the same, I'm in Belgium and have tried location Amsterdam, London and Frankfurt, no change. I have tried increasing the video processing speed in xsplit to very fast and no change, and my CPU just stays at around 20% usage so that's all good. Can I really squeeze out more cpu power to compensate for the lack of upload (I have not OC'd and have stock cooling, but so far I haven't heard or seen my computer strain at all no matter what I do) or what else can I do, and do you guys think 2.5MB upload will be enough for a clear stream for 720 or even 1080 when I get home? Thanks very much for any help.

First, it would be a lot easier to troubleshoot/help if you posted your current settings

1) That is to be expected when streaming 720p on 1 mbps on default settings (see #3)
2) Yes - bitrate is the most important thing for a HQ stream (to a certain degree of course)
3) That's because 'very fast' is equal to the default preset
4) Yes - somewhat. Use a slower preset, try 'medium'
5) 2500 kbps is fine for 720p, no go on 1080p.

my current settings:
I play in 1980x1080 max detail, have no fps drop ingame with dxtory and xsplit on

I'm currently trying to stream at 1280x720:
xsplit: resolution 1280x720 (what is a 480 res? i can't find one?), fps 25

location: amsterdam
preset: medium (what is more cpu intensive? slower made my stream very choppy
quality: 8 max bitrate 750 vbv buffer 800 (have no idea what to put here, no matter what I do it stays the same just about) my upload speed is 1MB
resolution 1280x720
audio format 32.000 16 AAC LC bitrate 48000

pls any suggestions to try and tweak it will be so appreciated ty very much in advance.

I suggest to try a 480p as long as you only have 1 mbps upload.
You can add new resolutions under the "resolution" menu - you would want to add 853x480 to keep the right aspect ratio.
Preset: The slower means more stressful - if you get lag/choppyness you ask too much of your cpu.
Quality: Lower to 5-6 because you're bandwidth limited - it's not related to image quality as such. Setting it too high will cause lag in your case.
The rest is fine.
If you get that to work fine, then you can up the resolution to 720p - compare the results, I think you will find the 480p to be more fluid and faster to become less pixelated when scrolling/moving around fast. GL
