Directshow with DXTORY only works when i have File Output selected aswell. If i have File Output unchecked it will not even start. i have tried many different hotkeys, even normal keys such as W, A, S, D, all Fnumber keys. But directshow does work if i have file output selected. Unfortunately i don't have enough hard drive space to have file output selected every time i want to stream. Does anyone know what is wrong? Thanks

Edit : I understood something very different, I will re-edit this once i find a solution.

This works amazingly well. Xsplit is obviously doing something terribly wrong.

Thanks very much for this guide. I had previously encountered sporadic or severe framerate drops in games when using Xsplit's screen capture, and just dismissed it as my computer (which is sufficiently powerful, I thought) being too weak to stream at a decent resolution. Using DXTory resulted in a significant improvement. Using Xsplit's screen capture, usually my fps would drop by about half, but with DXTory it's about a 1 to 2 fps drop. Last night I tested streaming SC2 at 720p 30fps and Dota2 720p 60fps and both worked exceptionally well. I configured everything in the way you mentioned in the guide and now I have no more streaming issues. Really great work.

Wait a second.. Goodseed, how did you get your video so crisp? I did all the same settings as mentioned but my quality input just seems very very bad from dxtory! check it out :S
http://www.justin.tv/s00pr/b/297304676
and its the same crappy quality when I just press F12 and even no stream so its like my output from dxtory?
*EDIT*
I rebooted both programs and it seems like it fixed itself

I have 10mbit upload, I'm playing around with the setting atm, got any suggestions? Atm I just changed my resolution in xsplit up to 1680 again, when I only used Xsplit before I could always get some kind of stutter when using 1680 so I always had to use 1280..

So right now I tried 2000/2000 60fps and 1680x1050

*edit*
I can see stuffer from some fps drop or something, dont like it

I tried 30fps before and its no problem. Maybe I should just use 30fps and like 3000kbps, while like 2000 buffer and 1680 resolution, what do you think?

You can try increasing to 3000 and see the difference , i think it will be alot better. On the other hand make sure u have aspect ratio clicked so it wont stretch the picture unless you really want the whole stream to not be in a black box.

Be aware that not every single person that does want to watch stream might be able to watch yours.
2mbps download is what i think a lot people have. I am not fully sure but make sure you dont lose any of your people that watch you.

About the buffer , stream 1 video and than watch it , if you have pixelisation increase it, if your video is stuttering decrease it.

Best of luck.

Edit : Stick with 720p.

For 1080p you will need a lot more than 3000kbps to make it look perfect.

And dont go over 30 dps. Useless. I was watching IPL3 which was on 60 fps , it was unreal in some ways. At least i felt it very weird.

Ok thanks for the input man. Yeah the IPL stream was so so nice imo, I love the 60fps actually But I dont think its possible while playing.. 1680x1050 is giving me a decrease in fps that I can feel while in-game so I wont use it.. But the quality is so different! Here's everything set to 3000/3000 and 30fps

1680x1050:
http://www.justin.tv/s00pr/b/297311220 Such nice quality! >< But obvious lagginess.

1280x800:
http://www.justin.tv/s00pr/b/297310836

And I changed the aspect rate aswell. Thanks for your help sir!

I saw the stuttering , which wasnt very common in the videos. Do lower the Buffer. if you have it at 3000/3000 , try 3000/2500. See if that is going to work.

Some people say for their stuttering they have been lowering to a ratio of 4:1 of their VBV. Play with the Buffer and see which spot is the best for you.

You are more than welcome btw.

Do you know how I can increase the output volume from the stream? I listen to the music quiet loud with my headphone but when I watch the recorded stream, it is way too low compared to what I hear when I go live. I would have to like make the bar maxium on the twitch tv to make it a little bit louder.

This is pretty sweet. I gave it a go with Rage and I had a huge increase in ingame FPS compare to before, there was almost no drop in FPS when streaming. I also noticed another funny thing while testing; whenever I was watching my stream on the 2nd monitor to check for lag, my ingame FPS dropped by 50%.

Thanks for the guide.

See in windows sound configurations if the levels are set to 100. If they are than not much you can do beside increasing the volume level on the program you are listening the music and or increase it from Xsplit.

PepperoniPiZZa , you are welcome and i am more than glad that i`ve helped just another person.

Nepsilon, do you know if changing the Dxtory codec settings (like Full RGB lossless vs 2x2 YUV "low" quality) makes a difference in performance with DirectShow output? Also, do you know whether checking "compress" makes a difference in performance?

I think it does make a difference but not when attached to xsplit , since xsplit is the one encoding the video and sending it.I need to make some more testing but for now i can not since my upload is bad and i can not see the difference.

Compress didnt affect my stream at all, it could be only for local recording.

A friend of mine was trying to do this. His computer isn't extremely powerful (a core2duo if I recall?) and his current setup is xbox -> Hauppauge HD PVR capture device -> output to monitor -> screen capture via Xsplit -> stream. Of course, the monitor becomes the middleman so there is the potential for unnecessary CPU work. However, I told him about DXTory as a possible solution to bypass the screen capture method and he said it wasn't an option because of this: http://forum.dxtory.com/index.php?topic=875.0;wap2

This is a technical subject.
Because VMR9 of OS does rendering with DirectX9, you may capture it.
And, because overlay is a method that DirectDraw is old, it doesn't support it in Dxtory.
I do not have the plan to deal with this very old method.
It is additionally because it is not a method used in the game program.

Does Xsplit support a direct capture from capture devices now (I believe this is GameSource but I haven't messed with it)? If so, are you encountering any problems with it?
