(This thread is for those living in or near Richmond, Virginia)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I've been interested in doing this for quite some time and I'm eager to get this off the ground. It's fairly self-explanatory: those living in Richmond (or near Richmond) can join in for tournaments and small prize pools made up of donations. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Who can join? How can I join?
Anyone can join; from the lowliest bronze to the mightiest grandmaster. If you live around Richmond or can easily get there you're eligible.
You can join by emailing me at jeeeeohn@yahoo.com or by dropping a comment on the Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/RVA-Starleague/289956007682726
Edit: Make sure to email me your character name and code!
Any prizes?
Tournaments will most likely be small and local (about 10-20 players), so the contestants will have to donate 3-5 dollars for entry (or more if you'd like, obviously).
What's the tournament format?
Best of 1 until the final match, which is a best of 3.
Edit: Nah, scrap this. Money's on the line: it's a Bo3 until the final round, which is a Bo5.
When's the first tournament? Is it online or LAN?
I have no idea when the first tournament will be; when I get enough players. The tournament will be online unless someone wants to arrange the time/money/space for a LAN party.
Edit: The first online tournament will be on the weekend of October 22-23.
Map Pool?
-MLG Xel'Naga Caverns -MLG Tal'darim Altar LE -MLG Metalopolis -MLG The Shattered Temple -MLG Dual Sight
Loser's Choice.
Edit: First tournament will be a full single elimination comprised of 16 players. Get in while you can! We already have two!
Edit2: First tournament will actually be a BO3 elimination comprised of 16 players. We already have 6!
Edit3: Fixed the map pool because my map selection was terrible. ^.^
Edit4: Yeah, four edits, I know. The first tournament will actually be a Bo3/Bo5 elimination comprised of 14 players.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, that's it. I'm sure I've missed something so keep asking questions and I'll get back to you! Make sure to like the Facebook page!
Consolidation of edits: Alright, for those who can't be bothered to read through the edits (I know I wouldn't), here's what's up: the first tournament will be hosted online through the weekend of October 22-23 (the meet and greet will be the day before); it's a Bo3 until the final round, which is a Bo5; the map pool can be found above (loser's choice). Replays must be sent to me at jeeeeohn@yahoo.com from the winner only And yes, I am going to check them, so just be honest.
I'll be posting the bracket later. GLHF!
Edit: (Edits for my edits) I should have mentioned that races will be locked through the tournament and that players will be randomly seeded. Thanks!

I'm a member of the VCU CSL team, and I've gone ahead and posted it on our club's facebook page, so hopefully you'll be getting a few of us soon.
I'm sure there are players from UofR as well who'd be willing to play as well.
|
Excellent, thank you very much!

Awesome! I accidentally applied to join the VCU team in my tired/sick state last night, haha. That's great though!
Edit: I've also contacted the University of Virginia and Virginia Tech so hopefully this can get going fairly soon.

Alrighty, we are up to four participants, with more expected to join Saturday-Sunday! This looks to become quite the little Starleague with some impressive players!
Thanks for all the support; more info/updates to come later.

I live in Richmond and I also play pretty much daily. I have a desktop that I'm not really willing to lug around to a lan match but I'd almost certainly be down for a tournament of any caliber. Facebook is for stalkers and child molesters so I sent you a PM :p
Edit: UVa and VT are a lil ways away but in the grand scheme of things I suppose they are still close to Richmond. If it comes down to a collegiate battle, I'm not part of the VT gaming team but I was in the class of 2007 so I'll be sure to side with those guys!!!

haha, noted.
Up to 6 people with more on the way! Get in while you can--but make sure you can cover the 3-5 dollar donation when the tournaments start.

Sorry if I'm just missing it, but what is the map pool?
Also, for a single elimination tournament with such a small number of players and money at stake, I feel like each round should be at least bo3. What's the reasoning for the bo1 rounds?

Ah, the map pool, I missed that. Thanks, I'll add that to the OP.
As for the BO1, I feel it just ups the stakes--then again, I'll probably switch it to BO3 when it gets to game time.

Tomorrow I'll be posting flyers around Carytown--look for some in One Eyed Jaques game shop!
|
Yea, BO 3 seems better. INC 6 pool!

Emailed, looks interesting

Thanks guys for your support! We're up to nine people now and we should be set for our first online tournament by monday.
Prior to the actual tournament I plan to organize a meet and greet so everyone can meet everyone else and pay their donations (unless you live waaaaaaay out like in Norfolk this is a requirement; unless you absolutely promise to pay the donation later).
|
We're up to 12 people and the first bracket is almost done. The first tournament will be a Bo3 until the finals, then it's a Bo5. I'm debating whether or not to seed players or just jumble everyone together and seed later tournaments based on the results.
There's also an in-game channel to join called RVASL Official.
To be continued!
|
I have not been able to post flyers because the library did maintenance on their computers and were inexplicably closed today (even though it clearly says it's supposed to be open?) Ah well!
Keep em comin!
|
Still at 13 people. If we don't bump up to 16 by wednesday I'm going to go ahead and prep the online tournament. Format and map pool can be found in the OP!

Well buddy, post your character name/code and you can get in.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Update: We're up to 14 people (not including those who've said they want to join and haven't given me their info), and I think that's a good number to start with for our first tournament.
The meet and greet will be hosted this weekend after I work out the details with the location's owner; the tournament itself will start the day after.
Check the OP for updates on the map pool and miscellaneous rules/format.
I'm working on the bracket now and I'll post it when it's ready. GLHF!
-----------------
P.S. - Don't hesitate to give me your code just because the current tourny is locked. You'll still get into the next one!

Gotcha! Alright buddy, you can't get into our first tournament but you could still attend our meet and greet this weekend! :D Thanks for your support!

Alright, here's the bracket: feast your eyes!
http://www.bracketmaker.com/tlist.cfm?tid=410865
A page will pop up, and you'll see "RVA Starleague Special #1," click on that to view the actual bracket.
By the way, if anyone knows a better site to create brackets feel free to speak up! This website is a little clunky to use.
